Have you read a book in one sitting?

Recommended Posts

The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mohsin Hamid. The character's story was so compelling that I was a bit disappointed that I'd read it all at once!

It is a good book. You can almost read it in real time :D as the story develops from afternoon to evening. It's like being the american listener who's being told the story.

Hah, I know that :D Just experienced it twice to be honest. I suppose I was feeling ill and not at school that day. I was lying in my bed reading from morning until evening, eating something here and there (quite nothing). I mostly read books over a longer period. :haha:

I definitely remember reading 'Fight Club' in one sitting, it's quite short and very very compelling, constantly drawing you further with each page.

I've read White Fang by Jack London in one sitting over 30 times. :haha: At least 20 of those were snowy / rainy days at "camp" in northern Maine. As I sit here writing about it, I realize that its been far too long. My dog-eared and weathered old copy is still sitting on the end table, next to the heinous orange plaid couch in the "living room" of "camp."

Love Without Resistance by Gilles Rozier (translated by Anthea Bell). It was quite a short novel, though... :irked:

Was it worth it? I abandoned it at page two because of, well, you know what is described on page two; should I try again or...?

The narrater (am I silly for being unsure of how to spell that word?) has a very raw, straight forward way of discribing things, that gets under your skin and draws pictures in your mind that you don't want to see... like page two... But, in the end I thought it was a very good novel, so I would recommend giving it another try. :irked: But, be warned, since you were already put off in such an early stage of reading it, that it there are more disturbing things to come.

Ooooh one sitting.....let me cast my mind back.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - my Sister bought it for me at midnight when it went on sale and pushed it through my letter box without me knowing. I think it's possibly the nicest thing anyone's ever done for me :) It took all day but was so worth it!

Twilight - I bought it as an impulse buy in HMV (it was by the till so I grabbed it) I started to read it on the way home and didn't really speak again until about 2am. I rushed out to buy the rest of the series the next day and my boyfriend lost me for about a week! :irked:

Porno by Irvine Welsh - This was an ex-boyfriends book. I had nothing to do for the day so thought I'd see what it was like. The next thing I know it's 11pm and I'm reading the last page! It's such a good book!

I think i more or less read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in one sitting also :irked: I queued up at midnight and started reading one from the table where you were only supposed to grab one when you were at the front of the queue :)

Do you think that one-day-reading says something about the book?

I do. It also says that you're on holiday. The one book I read in one go was The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Nighttime by Mark Haddon. Started at 8.30, finished by the evening. I read Bad Monkeys by Matt Ruff in two days, mind, and that was only over a weekend. I wasn't much fun as company that weekend, I can tell you...:friends0:
