Hi

I am new on this forum.

I am reading the book of paulo coelho titled the Spy, on the first paragraphe of this book i dont understand this sentence : "I have always been an optimistic women, but time has left me bitter, alone, and sad. "

I can't find the relation between the first part of the sentence (optimism) and the seconde one (time).

Thanks.

Is this for a (school) assignment? If so, I'm sorry but we cannot help you. As per our forum rules, we do not allow new members to sign up just to ask for help with their homework, dissertation or survey.

In that case, I expect the reason of why the woman has become sad and bitter over time, will be explained in the book somewhere. But I haven't read the book, so I can't tell you for sure.

I would agree with Athena. It sounds like the first line is an opening gambit - I imagine that the rest of the book describes why and how she goes from being optimistic to sad.
