What's Up in September 2017?

Whew, can you believe it's September already?! I feel like the year is going by fast.

It's almost weekend, so that's nice. In the weekend we plan to have dinner with my parents and I plan on doing some chores. I also plan on phoning with my sister (like we usually do). I also hope I can rest a bit, because I've been tired.

What's up with you in September? Also, can you believe it's September already?!

No I can't believe it either, where did September come from???

Not much planned for tomorrow, but hoping to do a forest walk with my walking group on Sunday; I've resolved to do more walks (only done 2 this year, shamefully) so fingers crossed the weather lasts a bit longer.

I'm so happy it's September! September, October, November and December are my favourite months of the year. I don't like January, I tolerate Feb-April, and I generally hate May-August as that's when it's hottest here (not the whole time, but hot weather might pop up in May and again in July or something.) September still gets warm, but the cool mornings have kicked in.

Yesterday I bought new boots, two pairs, both black - one kind of black velvet (some kind of flocking anyway) with a black fur trim and the others leather with a grey fur trim. So happy with them! €35 each and super comfy. Haven't had any for months as my only other pair died during summer, and trying to get nice functional boots in summer is so hard.

I love this time of year too!

Its so cosy.

I can't believe it's September! However, once this month is over that is definitely it then. On the downward spiral towards 2018!

Hope everybody has a great weekend. Going to help my mum clean the chickens out. Maybe go for a walk. Not much else planned.

I like this time of year as well - September is often one of the warmest months and I hear we are in for a good one this year.

Coran and I had a quiet weekend with not much happening. Coran had to attend the AGM for one of the websites she designed on Sunday which left me with a free afternoon to go out for coffee and a rather indulgent cake. Not much else really happened though.

This is in contract to the week ahead, which will be mega busy. My lady cleaner finally came back to work today after her recent surgery, which everyone (especially her) is delighted about, so I had to do her back to work interview and make sure she was all okay. She is doing a phased return whereby she gradually builds her hours back to full time over a period of 4 weeks. This is perfect timing as the week she returns to full time coincides with the week I go to Croatia. Our sales rep for the cleaning products we use also came today to take my order for the month, which will be delivered tomorrow. I will be busy tomorrow then sorting all that out.

Then on Thursday our CEO is leaving. We have known it was coming for a while, as of course she had to give several months notice, and a lot of people are sad about it, as she is just brilliant and such a  lovely person. She certainly helped sort out my work problems when I needed it this time last year and after I spoke to her things changed pretty quickly! Thursday is also the day of our AGM, which means that all the board of trustees will be there and a lot of our clients families as well. After the AGM has finished they are planning a big presentation for her and of course to introduce the new CEO, whom I as an employee forum rep helped to choose. He will be here all this week getting ready for the final handover anyway. We are not sure when his proper starting date will be, but I expect we will be told on Thursday.  He seems very nice though and I am sure will do a great job.

Had such a busy weekend went out shopping and have to say spent rather more that I would have liked but hey I don't go out that often.  We are on holiday in four weeks time and ended up buying some more clothes for holidays.  We will be the best dressed on the beach me thinks. That is said tongue in cheek. :D

And so it starts again... went into Marks and Spencer at lunchtime and they Christmas cards on sale:o, and yesterday went into John Lewis (well known UK store) and they had Christmas trees at the entrance to what they were calling their "Tourist shop" but we know what it really is, I'm sure Christmas stuff will creep in and gradually overtake the tourist stuff (some of which looked suspiciously like decorations) in the next few weeks:stocking:

Nice to know most of you have been doing well :).

Yesterday we visited my brother and his girlfriend in their apartment. We celebrated his birthday and looked through the photo book they had made of their 7-month journey. It was really nice to spend some time with them.

I feel quite tired from yesterday, so today I plan to rest a bit.

It's always nice to spend time with family.

I am feeling sooo tired at the moment - I don't think I am the only one though as everyone I know seems to be feeling this.

It has been quite a week one way or the other. Our CEO left today and it was also the AGM - her leaving was timed to coincide with this deliberately. Every department banded together to get her a book of photographs depicting pictures from her time working here which was really nicely done - and of course there were some other gifts as well - and lots of cuddles. A few of the clients got quite emotional which I guess is to be expected. I must admit that I had a few tears in my eyes when I said my own goodbyes this morning. She is off on a big adventure now though, going sailing with her husband on their newly acquired boat. We have a new CEO who will taking over the reins soon and will no doubt be keen to continue where she has left off and put his own mark on the place. It's all good. :D

Hey y'all!

Busy, crazy and surreal week here. We're preparing for ANOTHER hurricane, worse than the one that hit Texas a couple weeks ago. That one missed us but this one wont. Two states have already issued mandatory evacuations in several counties in those states. We're in a "wait and see but be prepared because it looks like we're going to be evacuating so be ready" mindset. Add to THAT, we are planning to leave tomorrow to head BACK to Texas to pick up dd and all the grands and move them BACK to South Carolina with us. Her hubby is a wind turbine tech/instructor and his job has him traveling all over creation. She doesn't drive and has medical issues, the newborn is going to need a specialist and she has no support to help babysit or way to get to doctor's appointments without taking an Uber. Its a lose-lose situation and I'm tired of it. I told them both that she was moving back home because I'm tired of worrying about her getting sick and the kids being left to fend for themselves should something happen to them. They'd end up in a foster home. I absolutely can NOT have that. As I'm the one doing all the traveling and having my sleep interrupted nightly because she's stressed and  worried about the baby, I have the final say. And of course they are in agreement.

So, we're heading out driving two vehicles to do this move. Prayerfully, we wont get hit hard with the hurricane and can come home. We'll have to take our Kizzy with us since our ds will be heading to parts unknown during the duration and we can't afford to board her right now. When we come back we will be four adults, six kids (4 in carseats) and two dogs. And dd and her clan will be hold up in our house til her place is ready, which should be on Thursday next week. My head is spinning.

Sounds awful. My sympathies to you. :(

I'm trying to get back into work mode this week having had the last two weeks off work. One week we spent on day trips & back to school prep and the other where we went camping in the Lake District, at the side of Ullswater. We were incredibly lucky with the weather (not to say it was baking, but that it only rained once and that was overnight) and we had a great time all in all. Tom and I had been there about 6 years ago, and it was astonishing to see the changes in Pooley Bridge and Glenridding and how they've got back on their feet after the 2015 flooding.

This week it's been back to school for James and his first comment when asked how his first day back went was "It was rubbish. All we did was write and write and write. I didn't get to play at all". The difference between Reception and Year 1, son. ;)  It seems to have opened up another world of clubs and after school clubs too. We had already started taking him to rugby on Sunday mornings and now he has the option of Mini tennis on Tuesdays and multi-club sports on Thursday after school. Plus he's starting suzuki violin next Tuesday (where I or Tom have to sit in the lesson with him). All this in addition to an increased homework load, means we'll probably all be very busy and/or very tired by the end of the week. :D

I do hope you and your family are all okay Virginia - I have never experienced a storm like that and it must be pretty scary. My friends daughter was in Haiti when the hurricane hit so I hope she is okay too.

I am knackered after a long week with a lot going on, but am getting up early again tomorrow to go on another anti Brexit march in London with what is expected to be a record turnout of over 10,000 people. I am meeting up with the other Lib Dems also taking part at Hyde Park at 10am tomorrow - the forecast is good so it should be another interesting day. I expect you will read all about it on the news - unless of course you read The Daily Mail!

It was a great day but I am tired from it as it meant I didn't get my usual lie in. I estimate there were at least 3000 Lib Dems there - about 2 1/2 percent of our membership and anything up to 50,000 people in total. That is what the media reckons anyway. They were all very noisy - especially on the walk past Downing Street, and there some great speeches at the rally in Parliament Square afterwards. It can be a bit of a drag going to these things, especially if like me you don't really like London, but it is worth it.

Back to work for me today, after a four day 'weekend'. Was very ill with a flare up of gastritis over the weekend. It's something I've gotten on and off over the years, less so in recent years, due to my slightly improved eating habits. I don't know what set it off Thursday night, but the sensation of sitting in my chair at work today with no feeling in my abdomen or back - no pain, no discomfort, no swelling - is the most glorious thing. Gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining) is to heartburn/indigestion what earaches are to a pain in your head. So much more excruciating than it sounds. Friday and Saturday night I got maybe 2-3 hours sleep. Sunday night I said sod it, drank 1.5 bottles of wine (which, despite their acidity, amazingly did not cause me further pain) and slept like a baby. It's still there today, but far less so, so it's manageable.

Hey y'all!

Its been a busy few weeks. I hope everyone is faring well! Feel better Nol! Hope you got some rest Tali! Did you enjoy your grandparents visit Gia? More Reading, I do NOT envy all the school busyness you're about to endure, lol!

I don't know if you all remember me saying we were going back to Texas for a fourth time (in as many months) Well, we just got back. As the Eastern Coast of the U.S. was being pummeled by Hurricane's Harvey and Irma we were doing a caravan (one SUV and one pick up truck) over 1600 miles. We had to pack her house and get back to South Carolina by Thursday to return the rental pick up truck and Uhaul that we attached. So we traveled like a caravan with six kids (9, 7, 5, 4, 3 and 3 months) in one car seat, two booster seats and one infant carrier. Oh, and a husky puppy. We had stuff on the roof of my SUV and the bed of the pick up truck stuffed to the gills along with the Uhaul crammed full. We made it back Wednesday and managed to escape the storms. The vehicles were unloaded along with said kids, dd and dog. Yesterday was spent buying odds and ends. The grands are with me now. They need a good dip and scouring in the tub, lol! DD is using the time to finish getting the upstairs living area sorted out before starting on the downstairs bedrooms.

I'm so thankful that my mom was able to come down and help the move and our DS and bonus DS were available to help unload. This could have been much more stressful than it was. I had a screaming infant riding with me who just does NOT like rides or infant carriers and two ornery little girls who have taken sisterly fussing to a new level and crafted art form.

The number of potty breaks, McDonald's meals and gas fill ups are scary to think about.

Tomorrow we are taking a break and I'll be showing DD some local attractions and stores. We'll also visit our local farmers market. She's never been but the littles love it!

Have a great one!

Glad you managed to escape the storms Virginia. It must have been pretty scary. As for me, I have some time off soon. Coran and I are going to see our favourite Icelandic rock band Sigur Ros on Thursday (I am seeing them in their native Iceland too just after Christmas), so I have a half day off to travel up there and the day off afterwards so we can stay up there overnight rather than rushing home. A week after that, on 28th I am off to Croatia. It will very soon come round.

I must admit though that I am not relishing the thought of the journey up to London next week. The bomb that went off yesterday was on the same underground line that we need to use, although a different stretch. It is still scary though. One of my colleagues wives works up in Hammersmith and could have been on that train had she not taken the day off. You can't let this sort of thing stop you from doing things though, and we Brits are made of strong stuff. We will carry on then as normal but just be more vigilant.

It has though been another busy week, but nothing I can't cope with. I managed to get our rotas sorted for the next month with the minimum of overtime, which is somewhat of a minor miracle. It is important to get all this sorted out though before I go on holiday so that people know what they are doing. Our lady cleaner seems to be settling back into work, although I have to watch her as she has a tendency to overdo things. She seems okay though and is happy to be back.

I was so sorry to hear of the terrorism attack :(, though I am very glad no one was killed or very seriously injured. But I do find it very scary. I'm honestly doubting about whether to go on holiday to the UK in the first half of next year, because I find it very scary. That's just me and my anxiety . I haven't made any decision yet, the first half of next year is still a while away. But last time I was in the UK (travelling through London) we were at the place of an attack, a few hours before it happened. That was quite scary. When we arrived at my boyfriend's mum's house, and I turned the wifi on on my phone (I don't have a 3G subscription), I got messages from people asking if I was okay - up to that point I had no idea anything had happened. So, I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do, but anyway, I hope you and Coran will be okay .

I spent a lot of time with my sister yesterday. Her fiancé was here too (I'm so used to calling him her boyfriend, but I suppose I have to call him her fiancé now), though he spent most of the time working on his laptop (she had a day off, he didn't). I was exhausted by the time they left. I expect it will take me a few days to recover. I did have fun spending time with them though.

Came back home yesterday after a week away on the Isle of Wight.  On the whole, had a lovely week with some smashing walks on quiet, beautiful beaches, read loads of books and generally relaxed.  Spoiled on Wednesday when we had an email from the ferry company changing our crossing home from 9:30am to 8:00am!!  As there is no other way off the island in a car, had to phone and find out more - they'd had to take one of their ships out of service and had no contingency for replacing it, other than just shoving people on other ferries where there were spaces, and gave me the choice of 8:00am or 3:30pm - both of which were ridiculous for a 10am check out of the cottage we were staying in.  After a discussion managed to get on a slightly better 8:50am crossing, but on the other side of the island, so meant packing up the car and leaving the cottage by 7am.  We then had the issue of the keys for the cottage having to be taken back to an office in a different village to where we were staying and a bit out of the way.  Called the office to explain the issue with the ferry and ask if we could just post the keys back through the letterbox, but were adamant we couldn't.  Phoned head office and explained situation again, and was then put back though to local office who agreed we could do this, although obviously irritated as she'd already said I couldn't.  Ruined the last couple of days of the holiday, and has put us off going back again, despite the lovely beaches!

On top of that, I didn't find a single place to get a decent cup of coffee until the very last day of the holiday. :irked:  In one cafe at one of the beaches, they had all the usual coffee suspects on the menu, but when I asked for a latte, I actually got some coffee poured out of a filter machine topped up with hot water and then a bit of milk that had been slightly whisked to make it foamy, poured on top.  In typical British fashion, I said nothing, tasted a mouthful and threw the rest away.  Bleurgh.

Anyway, back home now, and have been out for an hour this morning and got some shopping done.  Lots to catch up on at home this weekend, but will make sure to set aside some time for reading!
