How many books have you read this year?

Recommended Posts

I have half an hour to read before I finish my 100th book of the year, which is a record for me.

I'm at 155 at the moment, but with the rest of today to go, I'm close to finishing another two, possibly three, books I've still got on the go. :)

Just 23 finished for me, which is not great, especially considering I was at 21 in September. My reading was very much in fits and starts, with me flip flopping from reading 3 books in 3 weeks to 2 books in 3 months.

It happens. As long as we can keep on enjoying our reading. :) anyway, 23 is great!

Good going!

I had a target of 35 and managed 39 so I’m aiming for 50 in 2018. One of my New Year resolutions is to spend less time on my phone so I’m hoping that will give me more time to read! :)

I finished up reading 72 books, at an average of 292 pages per book (almost exactly 21000 pages): 70% fiction/30% non-fiction (about the norm to date); 67% male authors/33% female (more male than usual).  FWIW, that's the second highest total I have reached (80 last year is the highest).  This year, as last year, I'm not targeting any particular figure, but, as stated earlier, am aiming to read more longer books, more non-fiction, so the final figure will probably be less, maybe a lot less.  I expect to read around the same number of pages, maybe even slight more.

In the end I read 82/80 books (total reduced from 100). I'm setting my 2018 goal at 100 again. I'm going to include comics this year, so it should be easier to hit that target. And if not, I'll adjust the target as I did last year!

That's more than I've read so far - way to go!

6 so far for me - I am aiming for 100 again this year but won't be too fussed if I don't manage it.

I do the Goodreads reading challenge.  Last year I read 35 books and have my goal set at 40 this year.

For those of you who read 100 plus books in a year, how do you think read that fast? I want to read-reread some of the classics this year as well as get to some more recent books, so I would love to learn to read faster and still retain what I am reading. I read as if I were reading out-loud,  but I do it in my head. Is this possibly what slows me down?

It isn't a matter of reading fast for me but a matter of how much time I spend reading, which averages at about an hour and a half a day - not really that much. I read at a speed of around 50 pages an hour which isn't that much really either, at least I don't think so. Of course it does depend on the subject matter as well. Last year I read a lot of non fiction which tends to take longer as you need to concentrate much more on these types of books and digest facts and so on. If I had the sort of job where I could read at lunch time I would probably read a lot more books than I do, but it is good to socialise and spend time with others and I still have plenty of time for reading outside of work.

I wouldn't worry about too much about it to be honest Cechak. Yes there are a lot of great books out there and it does sometimes feel as if you want to read all of them, but you will never be able to do this. The thing is to just concentrate on enjoying the books that do read, and hopefully learn something from them as well.

True and I do, but it would be nice to fit more in if possible. 😎 I read about an hour and a half too, but I don't get a chance to read much on the weekends.

I do most of my reading in the evenings before bed time. I don't watch much TV (it's mostly rubbish anyway) so prefer to spend my time reading. Having time to read at the weekends does make a difference as well though. I suppose it depends on your domestic situation and whether you have kids and other responsibilities. I am lucky in that I don't which means I can do pretty much what I like most of the time. :)

I have read six so far this year. Which means I am five behind schedule on my challenge. However, I’m not going to worry about that.

I am just going to keep on enjoying it.

I'm managing around 4 per month, which is my usual rate, more or less.
