AbielleRose
My TBR pile is so big right now I'm not sure if there even *IS* an end to it. I'm only on book #3 for the year, but the last month or so I haven't been able to focus on anything because of a few personal situations going on. To start with, I'm marking my progress in my Bullet Journal below. My goal right now is to try and get to 25. Hopefully, this is a low enough goal that even I can achieve it before the end of the year! On my Bullet Journal I'll be coloring in each shelf as I hit the corresponding number of books read. I'll leave a blank post below this so I can list my TBR pile (and pre-order pile... there are some really good books coming out this year!) AbielleRose
The first novel I finished this year was Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth. I was a bit hesitant to trust Veronica's writing again after she broke my heart with her Divergent series' ending. One thing is for sure, she is extremely talented at creating worlds. Carve the Mark is a science fiction romance set in a solar system unlike any I've read about before. The characters, especially Cyra, are well written and come to life quickly. Cyra's "gift" is a gift of pain. Not only can she inflict it if she touches another, but she feels pain herself all the time. I think part of why I connected so well with her is because I, too, suffer from a chronic nerve pain disorder. The way the author would describe the worst of Cyra's flares was exactly what I could relate to because its how I have spent much of my life over the last few years feeling. I've never read a novel with a character who shared that part of my own experience in life with before. Thankfully, it is just one book in a brand new series. I'm already looking forward to the next one.
Athena
I'm glad to hear you liked Carve the Mark! I've heard mixed reviews on it, some people liked it, some didn't like it so much. I'm glad to read a positive review for it and to read that the pain descriptions resonated with someone in chronic pain. I'll probably get the book when it's out in English medium sized paperback. AbielleRose
I hope you enjoy it when you get it! I love Veronica Roth's writing style, but there was definitely some hesitation after what she did in Allegiant, lol. I wasn't 100% sure if I could trust her again. Roshani Chokshi is an incredible writer. She's the sort who paints pictures with her words (she's Indian and her books are full of Indian culture that I've had to stop reading and Google. Its a bit hard to start and stop like that, but if you can handle it its soooooo worth it!) She's by far my favorite and most anticipated for future works.
