chesilbeach
A town council in the UK is planning to name two streets in a new housing development in honour of an author who used to live there. The article looks at other fictional places that are now very real! When literary inventions become real locations
Chrissy
Thanks for sharing the link Chesil. I knew one or two of them, but had no idea about the Neil Gaiman (just how cool is that?) nor the LOTR streets. Isn't there also a Treacle Mine Road somewhere about, relating to Terry Pratchett's Discworld series?
Athena
Thanks for the article, that's very cool! I had no idea there was a The Ocean at the End of the Lane street (what a great name) in Portsmouth. Even more shamefully, I didn't know those places in the Netherlands had streets named after famous authors and literary characters. I used to live in a village near Geldrop many years ago and cycled through it on my way to school. I guess I didn't get to the part of the town where the LOTR streets are. EDIT: I looked it up on Google Maps, I have actually been in those streets, during my driving lessons and on a visit to someone once (I forgot which street exactly they live(d)), and when it was necessary to drive through there because of the main road having roadworks some years ago. ian
That is so cool! I guess this is the kind of thing that happens when you have book-lovers in local councils. Not quite the same, but there is an estate not far from me that is named after places in Devon as that was where most of the builders came from at the time apparently. I'll look forward to some Harry Potter inspired road names in the future.
