3D Movies

Does anyone here have any 3D movies that they have really enjoyed?

We've never used that feature on our TV, but over the weekend we have bought some 3D glasses and loads of 3D movies on Amazon (all yet to arrive). I hope we enjoy them, or we have just wasted a fair bit of money. :giggle:

One of the ones I bought was The Hobbit (all three films) and I'm really looking forward to watching that! :boogie:

I am not a fan of 3D movies, except maybe with few exceptions. We only have 3D cinemas in malls around here so there are really few to no options when it comes to seeing a movie but I try to avoid the format as much as possible.

The problem with 3D movies is that not all are made for 3D. The new Clash of the Titans movie for ex was for 2D and then they just converted it. The result was a total mess and to this day I still feel sorry for buying a ticket to see it.  Authentic 3D movies and converted ones are very different things. This being said, I think that The Hobbit was a good choice. The movies are garbage imo but at least you can feast your eyes on all that CGI. Generally, I'd say that movie with lots of special effects are good for 3D viewing, so that would include most SF and fantasy blockbusters. Star Wars was great in 3D, I have to admit but it's not like anyone goes to see Star Wars for the special effects.

The new Stark Trek movies are also good 3D material. And of course space and wild life documentaries if you are interested.

We've had a 3D TV for about four years now, love watching a good film on it :)

Favourite films:

The BFG, The Jungle Book (the recent live action one which is stunning), Polar Express, Coraline, Avatar, Gravity, TinTin, Alice in Wonderland (the first Tim Burton one.)

I prefer animated films in 3D. I find live action ones a bit busy. Al likes live action though .. I'll ask him for faves :)

Takes some getting used to. I saw 3D films at IMAX before they were in ordinary cinemas .. I couldn't take to it at first but love it now.

I'm with MrCat though .. I don't like the converted ones .. they're rubbish or the ones I've seen are anyway.

I've noticed a lot of the 3D movies are animated, but I haven't bought any of those yet. I can imagine it takes some getting used to....must feel very strange. I hope I'm not one of those people that get headaches or end up with nausea!!

This 3D malarky is turning out to be more complicated than I thought. Our 3D glasses arrived and they don't work! I thought it was a simple as buying a pair of 3D glasses and you're good to go, but nooooo....you have to get ones that are compatible with your TV. We bought 'passive 3D' ones when we should have bought 'active 3D' ones. :dunno:  And they need to be paired with the TV via bluetooth! So, I've placed another order on Amazon and hopefully I will have better luck.

I think our TV came with 2 pairs of glasses. Must admit not really used them much. Seen one or two films in the cinema in 3D on a big screen but as MrCat said - whether they're worth seeing in 3D depends on whether they were filmed in that format or not. It works ok on tv but I always think some things are out of focus in 3D - the overall picture seems sharper in 2D to me.

I finally got some 3D glasses that work with our TV. We watched Prometheus which looked amazing. In fact, it looked so good that for the first half-hour or so, I was so impressed with the 3D that I wasn't concentrating on the story and got a bit lost.  We also watched some of Independence Day: Resurgence. The 3D looked incredible, but the movie was dire...we turned it off half way through as we were both starting to nod off. :blush2: So far, we're both very impressed with it all.  :D
