chaliepud
Welcome to my 2017 reading log. I only managed 38 books in 2016 so hoping for a few more this year, I am also endeavouring (again!) to read more from my TBR shelves and to buy much less than last year, I didn't record everything I bought - I will this year - so I don't have an accurate number but I estimate around 60, quite possibly nearer 70/80! Crazy when I am reading so little. It did make me happy at the time though! My TBR is far larger than I am comfortable with, and is starting to make me a little stressed so it is definitely time to start taking it a bit easier. I will make a bold - unreliable - claim that I will not buy any books and will only accept those gifted to me, either in paper form or via gift cards. I have also decided that at some point this year, maybe the Summer, maybe at the end of 2017, that I will have a cull of anything I just don't fancy anymore, i could possibly oust a few now but I will give them a little more time to plead their cases! In other aspects of my life I will continue to follow the KonMari methods, I also now have a BuJo (Bullet Journal) which will hopefully help me be more organised, now I am working 3 days a week it is a little harder to stay on top of things! I will still be eating as per the Paleo lifestyle, lots of unprocessed goodness, along with some nice dog walks should keep me healthy. Well, that's me open for 2017, help yourselves to a Paleo cookie and feel free to pop in anytime! Michelle
I am completely with you, book buying makes you feel happy! But we both need to limit, so we can support each other.. and I'll give you some moral support if you decide to cull!

How are you enjoying The Little Paris Bookshop, My Mum enjoyed it but said she found it a little slow at times? I don't mind slow if the writing is good. Have a fab 2017, see you around! chesilbeach
Good luck on reducing that TBR this year! I can thoroughly recommend culling a big TBR every now and again - I've done it a couple of times, and never got rid of many, but it helped knowing I'd got shot of the few I knew I'd changed my mind about reading and was never going to get to them. frankie
Happy reading in 2017, chalie! Very happy to see the new log here! We did pretty much the same number of buying last year, and about the same number of reading... Let's try and switch gear this year and read more than acquire! Presents and book swaps are of course fine Do you think you'll be trying the Book Jar again this year? I still have mine but have not tried it once! I hope I make more use of it this year. Barrows, Annie – The Truth According to Us this is also on my TBR, I really, really hope to like it! Du Maurier, Daphne – My Cousin Rachel Hawkins, Paula – The Girl on the Train Jaaskelainen, Pasi Ilmari – Rabbit Back Literature Society King, Stephen – The Stand Mitchell, Margaret – Gone with the Wind Segal, Erich – The Class ^ These are all wonderful reads in their own way The Stand and Gone with the Wind are huuuuge books, but once you get going, you can't put them down. That is, if you enjoy them They'll just basically read themselves and you'll be sorry to see them end so soon!

Athena
I'm glad you decided to make a 2017 reading log . Out of your TBR I really enjoyed Diane Chamberlain - The Shadow Wife and Stephen King - The Stand. A few others are also on my TBR. I agree about the book buying, it makes me happy too. Good luck in trying to buy less, I'm going to try the same. I wish you very happy reading in 2017!!

Thanks Claire! I'm fairly determined and I've managed a week already, baby steps!! Didn't you do this a couple of years ago? I remember us all being inspired at the time. The hardest time will be when there are new releases of books I definitely want to read, like Claire Fuller's new book at the end of the month! Maybe I can wait till Mother's Day! I will definitely have a cull, my only concern is that some of the books that I would want to cull are books friends have given me (not from wish lists), so I would feel bad about that! Anyhow, happy 2017, see you around the board!
chaliepud
Thanks, chaliepud! Reuben is perfect. Hope your doggies are well! Oh, I can't wait until you read The Stand. It's a long book but it hooks you in from page one! My doggies are great, Jojo her usual nutty self though slowly starting to calm down a little with age (3.5!!), unfortunately we haven't done any agility for a while as she damaged her leg/back and we had to wait ages to see a specialist, we went at the end of December and it isn't severe but it may be enough to stop her doing it, we will have to wait and see, looks like a nerve that is affected and agility could prove just too much. The specialist did suggest we do it slower, just for fun, I felt a bit bad laughing at him, Jojo doesn't do anything slowly!!! Obi is doing so well, he was 13 in October and still enjoying his walks (slower!) and getting up the stairs, long may it continue! It looks like 2017 MUST be the year for The Stand, too many recommendations to ignore!!!! Thanks Gaia, I am feeling positive that I will enjoy my reading in 2017, without the stresses of an increasing TBR pile, I am not too concerned with how many books I read, more that I am enjoying what I do read. I will try another DC in the next few months, I just read too many in one period of time and got a little bored of her, sorry DC!

I'd like to get to Gone with the Wind too, I've not seen the film so will be going into it pretty blind! I'm sure I will dip into the book box at some point, although it hasn't been updated for months, it would be good when I want to clear some of the longer standing members of my bookshelf! I'm not sure about The Girl on the Train, I tend to avoid over hyped books, this was given to me by a close friend who raved about it so I feel I should give it a go to see if I agree with the hype!!! It's difficult when they have an injury - they still want to run around and play anyway! Hopefully time will heal it....I don't know if I've ever seen a dog doing agility slowly! 13 is a very good age. Our previous dog was 13 - unfortunately he had cancer, but aside from the signs of that (which were very sudden) he seemed fit as anything (though he was deaf, the poor thing) and still loved his twice daily walk. They still love their walks, at any age I think. It looks like 2017 MUST be the year for The Stand, too many recommendations to ignore!!!! Oh, I so hope you read it this year. Obi has had a large lump on his neck for over a year now, it was huge at one point and then halved. He is fine in himself and we haven't had it tested, he finds the Vets incredibly stressful (and the Vets are pretty scared of him too!) plus we are unable to put him under anaesthetic as he has had to be resuscitated twice during operations! He is very happy as he is so we will let nature take its course, I don't think he is ready to shuffle of just yet! I'm sorry to hear about Jojo's injury. I'm glad both of your dogs are doing well otherwise though . chaliepud
A slow dog agility routine would be interesting, glad your older doggie is doing OK though. I found Little Paris Bookshop a bit slow as well. There are some dog who take it at a slower pace but they cannot compete with the faster dogs as a rule. Jojo is crazy fast though and over extends when jumpings which we think has caused the problem, we will give physio a go then maybe I'll send her oven some jumps and through the weaves in the garden and see how she goes! Definitely avoiding Little Paris Bookshop for a while!
Anna Begins
I must step in and wish you a happy reading year! Gone With the Wind is my favorite book I've read it four times! You also might want to read Primo Levi's book about surviving Auschwitz, if you haven't yet. He's often used in contrast to Elie Wiesel. I'd like to get to Gone with the Wind too, I've not seen the film so will be going into it pretty blind! I remember it's the copy I sent you, but I didn't want to mention it because that would probably remind you of the copy of Human Traces you sent me and the fact that I've still not read it yet Once you read yours, I'm bound to feel I need to read mine... I'd never watched GwtW, either, so I read the book without any detailed idea of what it was about! And it worked just fine. It was really great! I dare say you'll like it, too! I'm sure I will dip into the book box at some point, although it hasn't been updated for months, it would be good when I want to clear some of the longer standing members of my bookshelf! The updating the Book Box is so annoying I never once updated it last year, and I did buy over 80 titles... Luckily I got a printer off my friend at the end of last year and I printed out all my TBR titles and so that did the trick. I never would've done it if I had had to write all the titles down! I'm not sure about The Girl on the Train, I tend to avoid over hyped books, this was given to me by a close friend who raved about it so I feel I should give it a go to see if I agree with the hype!!! Ah, okay... Try to forget about the hype and just jump in, if and when you feel like it. If it's not your thing, then it's not your thing We can't all like the same books, time after time! He is very happy as he is so we will let nature take its course, I don't think he is ready to shuffle of just yet! Obi so cool
