What's Up in December 2016?

Good luck with the interviews :). I'm glad you're getting good support. You can do it!

I guess I will find out on Wednesday. I have a meeting with HR the day before to go through the format, which is basically a list of set questions with a tour of the site. Unbeknown to my colleague (the one who was off sick for 2 months) I have another meeting with him and HR also on Tuesday to discuss the standard of his cleaning and what can be done to improve things. He had a hospital appointment today which left me on my own. This gave me the opportunity then to go around the site cleaning his areas and assess the standard of what he has been doing. As I suspected, he hasn't been doing much at all. I took photos to record the evidence and will get the ball rolling on Tuesday to finally do something about this. He has a history of not turning up to meetings like this, so we decided not to inform him until a few hours before. It is difficult though, as although I can't stand the man and have made no secret of this, I can't let my personal feelings get in the way. I still have a job to do and have to try and support him if he does need help. It is clear that he isn't a well man.

We have our work Christmas party tonight which if I can get rid of my headache should be good. It kicks off at 7pm with the food (a proper sit down meal) at 7.30, followed by if I have the energy, lots of dancing.

Hope you enjoyed your Christmas party, June!

Today is another cold day. Not sure if I'll brave outside or not.

It's official, I am a college graduate!

It was a great night, although I left early. It was a little too loud for me and I was tired from a long week. It was nice to see everyone outside of work though and have a dance and a laugh. I would imagine there were a few sore heads this morning !

Good luck Talisman, I hope things go well with the meeting.

Virginia, congratulations! Well done!

It's almost my brother's girlfriend's birthday so next week we'll see them and celebrate her birthday.

I am sure everything will be fine. The maintenance manager tells me that he has informed my old Manager (the one before the one who had ADHD) of my promotion and he is delighted. We hope to meet up for a drink in the New Year so that he can offer his congratulations in person.

Hope your enjoy your brothers girlfriends birthday.

I am going to go and sit in bed now and have a quiet afternoon with my Kindle.

I know December is the same for everyone, so much to do and so little time to do It in.  So why am I not doing much at all.  Hubby is the same and as we only have ourselves to sort out it doesent really matter.

I even missed Father Christmas coming round on Sunday evening, I did not hear anyone knock on the door and did not even hear the Christmas music til he was well passed.  Was sad for all of 2 seconds, so hubby knows I am not feeling it this year.

:smile2: Congrats to you on your graduation, Virginia!!  It must feel so good!

Well done to you as well, Talisman, on your recent promotion :D

I've also got good news - I was able to find another job within my company!  Just in the nick of time too, since last Friday was to be my last day at my old job.  Now that I have that figured out I can feel relaxed at the holidays and start looking for a house to buy closer to town.  So much for which to be thankful!

Thanks Peacefield, Lau_Lou and Onion Budgie!

It really is surreal because now I'm getting asked the exact same question I was asked when I graduated high school almost 30 years ago, lol!! And the answer is "I let YOU know when I know! I have touched up my resume and will be putting them out in the new year. No need to do it now as it will only get lost by folks impatient for the holidays.

I spent the past two days working a temp position at Amazon.com. The last time I did it I hurt my ankle and was off of it for 2 months. THIS time I told them I wouldn't do that position EVER again. So they placed me in packing. That means I get to see all the weird, perverted and bizarre stuff you lot order, lmbo!! Unfortunately I started cramping up (hands and arms) and had to be sent home. Can't use my hands so I cant work. Oh well, it was only going to be till next Thursday. I'll have a little bit of extra cash so I won't complain.

Since my hands and arm still feel not up to par, I will lay in bed and read. Thankfully, it doesn't take much to hold a paperback!!

Thanks Talisman. I hope you had some nice quiet time :).

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Went out for my brother's birthday on Saturday and then it's my sister's Wednesday. There are birthdays here, there and everywhere.

I hope you have fun with all the birthdays :)

Virginia we don't realise how our body reacts to doing the same thing or motion over a period of time.  Working at Amazon i'm not surprised your arms and hands hurt.

Hubby has worked in retail all his life and he is paying for it now with problems with his arms, hands and legs.

I think it's the same whatever job you do, look at sportspeople, they're the fittest people around yet most of have to give up by the time they're 40 (maybe a bit older if they're lucky or depending on the sport) due to injury or just wear and tear.

Congratulations on the new job Peacefield.

Sorry to hear about your hands and arms Virginia. After what I have read about working at Amazon though I am not surprised. Working as a cleaner I sometimes find that my hands and arms hurt, especially after using the scrubbing machines, but you do get used to it after a while and the aches and pains start to subside.

I had very difficult meeting today with one of my colleagues to discuss some concerns about the cleaning standards and how he is managing his work. I had backup from HR as I knew it would be difficult, as I know what he is like. The words I would use are hostile and belligerent. He basically refused to communicate with either of us, and tried to turn it round by saying that I was not fit for the job. We weren't having any of it though and made it clear that at the moment things are being monitored, but if things do not change, then he may be issued with an improvement notice, which will then lead to a disciplinary. I said that I want to help him and try and make things easier for him, I even asked what I could do to help with this, but he would not even answer. He just kept saying that he didn't care as he was looking for another job. Good bloody riddance I say.

I am interviewing 2 candidates on Thursday for another cleaning positon which I am looking forward to. We had a quick run through of the format and questions this morning. Tomorrow the whole team (except the person mentioned above, who is refusing to go) are going out to the local greasy spoon for lunch. We do this every year and it is usually good fun. It's a chance to spend time together as a team outside of work and be paid for it, which can't be bad!

Thanks all!

I did pretty good last night as I took the pm's and kept drinking water. I slept really well but this morning (my day off) I do feel the pain in my neck and shoulders. I'm not doing much with my hands besides turning pages and a little keyboarding. Showing up on Thursday is up in the air.

These next couple of days will be spent washing hair and doing household paperwork to prepare for the new year.

Tali, I'm amazed that your NONco-worker has been allowed to remain employed, That's something that would never be tolerated here in the states. In 9 out of 10 employers, he'd have been out of a job almost immediately, even with following termination protocol. Most times you'd just get a "don't bother to return tomorrow" and be escorted out the door.

The meeting sounds like it was a difficult one, Talisman. I hope you enjoy your lunch :).

Virginia, I'm glad you're feeling a bit better in some ways. I hope you'll feel better soon.

My boyfriend and I had a great time yesterday with my brother and his girlfriend. We celebrated her birthday and went out for dinner in a restaurant. The food was really nice. I'm quite tired from it (of course) so today will probably be spent trying to rest.

Me too. I think a lot of the problems stem from the fact that my previous Manager did not deal with things properly by keeping them properly informed about what was going on. His successor was not really there long enough and there were issues with his own cleaning standards as well, which meant that he did not get through his probationary period. I have though been there a long time and seen first hand the way in which this man behaves and there is really no excuse for it. He met briefly with HR today on his own and from what I gather they made at least some progress. We have another meeting tomorrow with him in which we hope to give him some clear objectives to work with. As it stands though if this doesn't work and he continues to be this belligerent and hostile and refuses to cooperate then we have 2 possible recourses. The first will be an official improvement notice period of perhaps one month during which his behaviour will be monitored in more clearly defined and measurable ways. The second (and I am very much more inclined towards this option than the first one given the history) is to start disciplinary proceedings immediately. I personally believe that he is being deliberately obstructive and that this should not be tolerated. I am the third Manager he has done this with, so it is definitely him and not me. I personally think then that it is high time something was done.

Lunch at least was nice. I am amazed really when we do things like this how comfortable it has become for me being the only woman in a team of about 10 men. They really are a great bunch of guys though, who all work hard and have a laugh together which is what it is all about and one of the reasons why I enjoy working here so much.

I wish I could say that. My throat has been itchy and sore for a few days now which is not what I need right now. Mind you, I would rather have it now than all over Christmas.

It has been another eventful day for me. We have appointed a new part time cleaner and finally placed the other one under disciplinary. It is not what I particularly wanted to happen, but in the end he left us with no other choice.

Hope you feel better June, I hope your coworker's rope is getting shorter and shorter and he's out the door by the new year!

Gaia, I'm glad you got to spend time with your brother and his girlfriend! Did he bring back some amazing pictures from his trip?

I"m done with Amazon. My hands just wont cooperate and I'm going to listen to them. Its not worth early onset arthritis (already have it in my neck and ankle) and adding corprol tunnel isn't on my list of things to do.

I spent the day thus far, fiddling in my study/craft room trying to organize some things. I pulled out my many journals, my beading and drawing supplies. I found our passport applications that I misplaced last year and will work on that on and off. I also am working on the packing. My mom called to tell me that she's buy Kizzy and doggy jacket. You have to understand. Growing up on a farm and being a city baby boomer, my mother was NEVER one to spend anything on animals. They got fed table scrapes and got flea collars, that was it. Now she's a doting and dotty grand-fur parent buying doggy coats and treats and clearing out a cozy space in the house. Who is this old woman and what has she done to my REAL mom?! Don't tell anyone but I overheard her talking to Kizzy on our last visit. She told Kizzy to "come to Gigi." Um, that's the name my grands have for her! LMBO!!! She'll never know I heard about it, unless I need blackmail material.
