Favourite main characters in books

Welcome to the forum, Maxie!

I've always loved Martin Benson from the Benson trilogy of books by Michael Carson.  (Actually, there's a fourth in the series now, but it's far removed in tone from the earlier novels.)  Benson is such an earnest, truthful, foot-in-mouth doofus that you can't help but love him.

My main man, though, is Sherlock Holmes, forever and always.  :D

Bloody love Sherlock! But I like Dr Watson more.

Bridget Jones

Louisa Clark (Me Before You)

Libby Lomax (A Night In With...)

Louis Creed (Pet Sematary)

Gabriel Oak (Far From The Madding Crowd)

There are more but will mean a lot more thinking.

The ones I could come up with:

Scarlett O'Hara. I've never read a character go through such evolution.

June and Day from the Legend Trilogy.

Robert and Maria from For Whom the Bell Tolls by Hemingway

Bob Arctor from A Scanner Darkly by Phillip K Dick

and

Howard Roarc from Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead, but I liked Atlas Shrugged more.

Jane Eyre from the book with the same title.

Behemoth from The Master and Margarita

Hermione from the Harry Potter series.

Hamlet

Holden from Cathcher in the Rye

Just kidding, Holden was the most annoying character in any book. Ever.

I do not know if we are going with fictional characters only. However, I fell in love with Richard Woodville when I read The Lady Of The Rivers. He was not the main character but had a huge role all the same.

I did not know much about this man before I read the book. Other than he was the maternal great grandfather of Henry VIII.
