Miss-Nightlife
I absolutely love short story collections! I'm currently reading A. M. Homes 'The Safety of Objects' and have loved authors like Angela Readman and Diane Cook. Can anyone recommend any more quirky short story collections? davidh219
Unfortunately I mostly read genre fiction, and that extends to short stories. Don't know if most of this is what you'd be looking for, genre-wise, but I enjoyed these a lot. Fragile Things by Neil Gaiman Smoke & Mirrors by Neil Gaiman Unnatural Creatures (edited by Gaiman, stories by various authors) 60 Stories by Donald Barthlme (very post-modern, be warned) The Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury The Complete Short Stories of Ernest Hemingway The Complete Stories by Franz Kafka

timebug
Saki wrote a whole book or two of excellent short stories, most of which I believe are now out of copyright and are available on Project Gutenberg and similar sites?

prinsessekriss
Check out "Diary of the mad" by Victoria Haugnes. Good read!
Kolinahr
Seconding the Gaiman recommendations! For a long time, they really outstripped his novels in quality (imo, those have only caught up recently with such eerie and rather short entries as Coraline and The Ocean at the End of the Lane).
