My main aim is to enjoy my reading year which I mostly did last year. I read more and I enjoyed more which is a big plus. The end of the year always gets a bit scrappy. I never read much in December .. it's hard to concentrate when you're climbing the walls and wrestling a turkey  :blush2:

I'm going to have a bit of a clear out though ... before I put up my TBR lists. There are so many books on my shelves that I'll never get around to reading, most of which were bought at library sales for 1p or something. They're just oppressing me .. and clogging up my TBR jar!! A trip to the charity shop is in order. Clear some space, free my mind from burden (haha .. good try!!) and give them the chance of being read by somebody with a less prejudicial eye. I'm determined to be ruthless .. though suspect that I'll start off well but end with putting them back on the shelves :blush2: I still have bus tickets that date back to the 1980's so I'm not hopeful.

It'll be a natty way of whittling down the old TBR list though (no .. it's NOT cheating!! :D

Last year I made the jar and it did help .. I read 32 compared to 18 the year before. But then I read more in total and also bought/acquired new books .. 11 of which remain unread. So that more or less leaves me where I started  :banghead: Going round and round on the hamster wheel of unread books.

Anyway, the very best of luck to all of you  Happy Reading in 2016!! I apologise for not keeping up to date with last year's blog .. I meant to but got distracted. You haven't missed a thing .. though I did write some awesome reviews in my head whilst out walking .. which I then totally failed to type up when I got home! I will attempt to fill in some of the blanks before it's all lost in the pea soup of my brain. But really, you should be thanking me that I kept the drivel to a minimum .. though of course .. one could always do better.

Wishing you a happy, healthy and booky 2016!! Please visit me here and make yourself at home even if I'm away .. pull the books off the shelves and blow the dust off. Leave them on the floor for me to fall over if you think they're particularly awesome stories that deserve notice. I am a bad judge of 'what to read next' .. ignoring books which only the week before I couldn't wait to own, then kicking myself for not reading them sooner.

I'll add some cows here for excitement :cows: :cows: :cows: .. in lieu of changing the font colour  :D I will be doing plenty of that anyway when I fill in the blanks later.

Here we go then .. onwards and upwards. Best of love and luck everyone xx

I hope you have a smashing and a wunnerful reading year in 2016, poppyshake! :smile2:  :readingtwo:

I like the idea of a clear out, but I'm also scared. What if you give away great books? Oh well that's your prerogative obviously, and it's not like you're going to purposefully give out all the books that you know would be great  Sometimes one may have gotten a bit buy-crazy and may have acquired books that one was debating over whether to read them in the first place... And it's just as well that one goes over one's books sometimes and sets those books free, and other books that one doesn't feel like reading anymore.

Looking forward to viewing the rest of the posts once you've had the time to fill them with all things books and booklikes! :smile2:

I can highly recommend a clear out ... I did it before my big challenge a couple of years ago to clear my TBR and I felt much better for it. Like you, most of mine were books I'd bought in charity shops or the "free" book when I used to buy lots from Waterstone's on the 3 for 2 offer they used to do and had really only chosen because I needed 3 for the offer and it seemed a waste not to get an extra book

Good luck with your reading this year, Kay, hope it's a good 'un for you! :D  :friends3:

I hope 2016 is in all ways wunnerful for you my lovely

I am worried about the clear out too. I've had a cursory look round and so far have only really earmarked books that I've read .. but won't read again. I think I need to be stricter .. it's not as if I'll never read these books .. I can get them again from the library or charity shop .. if I ever find myself with a spare few days and nothing to read in the house (if that happens .. it'll be a sad day in the Poppyshake household :D I'm not happy unless I can choose from at least 100 books!!)

I blame it on carbs at the mo .. I've had too many. When I start eating oily fish again my brain will be sharper (as if!!  :giggle: )

The very best of luck to you too Claire  Hope 2016 is a great year for you.

A lot of the books on my attic bookshelves are the ones that Alan bought .. 10 for a £1 .. from Swindon library when they had one of their clear outs! Consequently they're not all up my street  :D Also, yes, the third Waterstone's book on their 3 for 2 offer. Always a menace! I'm glad they've changed it for the 'buy 1 get 1 half price' offer now though that is landing me with just as many unwanted books probably  :blush2: The rotters!!

Good luck for the reading year ahead! :)

Thanks Jessi :) Hope you have a great reading year too!

Hiya... :006: ...ah yes the famous last words of 'having a clear out of the book shelves'. Funny you should mention that, hubby and I were just in Waterstones today... he had a voucher to spend, which he did and then I said 'so which shelf will that be trying to find a space on...?' So good luck with it. Nice to see your thread...happy :readingtwo: in 2016.

I think it's a good idea to start with the books you've already read but will not read again  How many books do you think you will 'set free' in that way? One advice I've just remembered is, you could take an initial look at the books and see what you might want to give away from your TBR pile, and then stash the books in a box for a little while, and not even think about them after that. After a while go back to them and see what's there. I dare say of some you will think 'do I still have this book? Why? Should take it out immediately, should've done so ages ago' and of some you will think 'dear lord, I've been looking for this book for days! I want to read it now'. And those sentiments can be very valuable in determining which books you are ready to part with :) It's happened to me loads of times when I've put some books aside to get rid of, and then haven't actually been efficient enough to actually take them out of the apartment :D

I blame it on carbs at the mo .. I've had too many. When I start eating oily fish again my brain will be sharper (as if!!  :giggle: )

Carbs are bad... They are evil! :giggle: Bring on sharp fish brain 2016!!

Edit: Forgot to say earlier... I was going through the posts that you've filled in now, and stopped at the 1001 Books -post. They were all the same color and I scrolled down and thought, oh me god, she's read them all! She's read them all in a chronological order because I can't find a title in a different color!! I kept scrolling down and realized you'd only written down the ones you've read so far   It's a great big number you've read, by the way! :smile2:

Oh dear, I really like this font.... I've grown tired of the usual font. Writing in a different font looks so much prettier and makes the post feel more important and special :D I shall take a look at the different fonts and see if I could find one for me... I wouldn't like to change into any of those that are already in use by other members on here... That would seem to me like I was copying someone's haircut :D

Edit: ^  That of course sounds odd if you're reading this and see that I'm now typing this in your font... But it's because the font changed to this one all by itself when I was quoting your post, and if that happens, I'm too lazy nowadays to change it back to the 'normal' one :D

Hiya Diane  :006: Yes, I have Christmas books which need to be shelved. It's time to be mercenary!!  :devcat: Or as mercenary as I can be when it comes to my beloved books. I hate parting with anything!!  :hissyfit: Happy reading to you too

Happy reading in 2016 Poppyshake! I look forward to perusing this thread, I always nab a load of reading suggestions from you :)

Thanks Noll  Hope you have a great reading year and that I can contribute to it in some small way or at the very least not hamper it  :D

I think I have set free about 20 .. they're not exactly out of the house yet though :D That's a very good piece of advice re: the TBR and one I'm going to adopt :) The other thing I thought I'd do is (if I can keep the box accessible) .. read a chapter or two of said book before finally parting with it. If it grabs me then I'll continue on with it .. if not then I'll take it to the charity shop and probably kick it all the way there for taking up shelf space for no good reason :D

The thing is .. all the titles are still in the jar :D Although I do have the up to date list on here, chances are I'll still hunt high and low for books which I've since boxed up and shoved under a bed :D Happy days!!

Edit: Forgot to say earlier... I was going through the posts that you've filled in now, and stopped at the 1001 Books -post. Haha .. very disciplined of me to read them in chronological order  :D  :D  :D I gave up writing the whole list out last year ... it was oppressing me  :D I'm finding whole new ways of pretending that I am on top of things  :D

Oh dear, I really like this font.... I've grown tired of the usual font. A change is as good as a rest .. though I've had a fringe since I was seven :D

I did have the feeling that I was talking to myself just now  :D It's good to be random. Don't conform .. that's when the rot sets in :D Write in a different font everyday!
