I'm not that well-read, but I'll give you the authors that have caught my attention already:

1. J.K Rowling - because genius

2. Jandy Nelson - because "I'll Give You The Sun" is literally everything

3. Harper Lee - no explanation needed

4. Veronica Roth - a young supertalented author who wrote my favorite YA-serie

5. Sara Bergmark Elfgren - a Swedish author who has written "The Circle"-triology together with Mats Strandberg. Very charismatic and clever.

6. Tahereh Mafi - the Shatter Me series is beautifully written

7. Joyce Carol Oates

8. Suzanne Collins

9. Becca Fitzpatrick

10. Astrid Lindgren - even if I'm no longer reading her books I will always bear her stories with me

You're the first person here at least since a couple of years, who also likes Penny Vicenzi! I quite like her books too :). I've read most of them, except Sheer Abandon, Almost a Crime and her The Spoils of Time trilogy. Nice to 'meet' another fan :).

I'm the same. They are all sitting on my bookshelf waiting to be read. She knows how to draw you in. Her books are huge though. :)

This was actually quite a tough one. It was difficult for me to separate someone who wrote a book that I've liked from someone whose writing is really my favorite. As such, my list didn't make it to ten, but it's a solid list of authors whose work I am pretty much guaranteed to like.

Jasper Fforde

Alan Bradley

Higashino Keigo

Masha Hamilton

Margaret Atwood

Louisa May Alcott

M.R. Carey (coming to be...it's 2 for 2 with him so far, so it's a bit early to tell, but there's definitely promise.)

RA Salvatore (Drizzt books are a guilty pleasure - like Jack Reacher books)

Richard Dawkins

Alexandre Dumas

Charles Dickens

Neil Gaiman

Just missing out:

Shakespeare (he'll do fine without my adoration, I'm sure)

Lee Child (love Jack Reacher, who is not Tom Cruise!)

George RR Martin

Joe Abercrombie

Robin Hobb

Here's my Top 10:

William S. Burroughs

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Truman Capote

Helene Hanff

Michael Carson

Agatha Christie

Joe Orton

Neil Bartlett

E.M. Forster

John Rechy

I haven't read many of Forster's novels yet, but I was running out of favourites by the end of the list!

John Rechy's writing is rather like that little girl who had a little curl right in the middle of her forehead.  (When he is good, he is very very good, but when he is bad he is horrid.)

This is a hard question to answer because I haven't read enough authors to be able to name 10.

The following authors I have read more than one book and enjoyed them. These are not in order and may change

1) Arthur Conan Doyle

2) Sophie Kinsella

3) Charles Dickens

4) Cecelia Ahern

5) Jaqueline Wilson (haven't read any of her recent books but was a huge fan as a teenager)

6) Stephen King

7) Helen fielding

8) Philippa Gregory

I am also adding Emily Bronte and Mary Shelley as I have only read one novel from each and they are amongst my all time favourite books.
