What's Up in April? - 2015

It's April already! Today it's April 1rst, a day in which some people tend to pull jokes on others (also known as 'April Fools'). I am not a fan of this custom, it was always difficult when I was in school because I never knew if I could trust what classmates would say on this day (with my autism, I used to think everyone was an honest and truthful as I am.). Anyway, hopefully I can get through the day without too much fuss.

What's up with you in April?

I planted my second crop of spinach, radishes, and spring onions yesterday. The first crop is up about a 1/2 inch and doing well. The lettuce is keeping up with the spinach so maybe I can attempt to mix them in salads this year. I love spinach salads and have one almost every night with dinner doing the spring and early summer.

Today I will mow the grass for the 3rd time this spring. It  usually takes me about 2 1/2 hours most of which is riding the tractor. The lawn is really looking pretty good this year. The grass is thick and almost "no" weeds.

My GD, the one that worked in Alaska for 3 months is flying out today for Belize where she will work for 2 months on Manatee Rehabilitation. She is excited. http://www.wildtracksbelize.org/rehab/manatee/background/

My Easter weekend starts here!  I haven't really planned anything, which is unlike me … I like to have a vague idea of what I want to do, and roughly when I want to do it whenever I'm off work, but this time, I just haven't settled on anything.  Will see what OH wants to do, and fit around him, but otherwise, I'll need to have a think about it this evening.  I hate not having a plan as I tend to end up doing nothing and just wasting time on the computer or watching television, and before I know it the weekend's gone.

I had to buy a tablet/laptop (Surface Pro 2) today. It is Certified Refurbished, last generation, I got a super deal, plus it has Word already and fits my old keyboard even though it's not the same generation; mine is older and suffered an agonising death over the last week. Had to pay extra for the faster shipping, but I have crucial school work due by Sunday, it's all online. I am pretty upset, as it had to come from savings and I liked my original Pro. Unfortunately, all the work due, is saved on my broken computer, so ya.

I'm sitting here worth a fuzzy head. Sinuses, ugh.

Hubby left for training today. He'll be back on Friday hopefully. We'll be commuting like this for two months. I'll spend time up there with him also. I miss him already. My home is so quiet now, just the dog snoring. I'll be joining her soon!

I hope your vegetables and grass will do well this year :). I hope your granddaughter is fun, she is travelling all over the world to do good :).

I'm so sorry about your old computer and that you had to take money out of your savings :friends0:. I hope the new computer will arrive soon and work well, so that you can work on your school work before it's due.

I woke up this morning with a headache, I've taken a paracetamol and done a few other things, but so far it's still there though it is a bit better than when I just woke up. I plan to take it slow today and mainly do some reading, and nothing too tiring hopefully. I hope my head will feel better soon.

I don't know how you can read with a headache, Gaia, it only makes mine worse when I try.  Hope you feel better soon.

Still haven't made up my mind what to do with myself yet, but I've started the day with an hour reading, so that's a pretty good start! :D  I've got some errands to run this morning, so I'll try and get those all done out of the way so that I can relax and enjoy the rest of the day.

Well I haven't tried to read a book yet :blush2:, so I don't know if it'll work. I just planned to read today and I hope I can (I don't like to change my plans). In general though reading a book is much less input (and therefore less tiring) for me than ie. watching a TV show (something with visuals and sound), so I usually find the former easier. I can't always read when I have a headache, though (definitely not!), but I'm hoping for the best. If not reading, then I might just have to lie in bed or take a bath or such.

I'm glad you had some fun reading :D. Good luck with your errands and I hope you'll enjoy the rest of your day relaxing :).

Thanks Gaia, I hope your headache is history!

I feel slightly more human today. The night was a little rough, what with hubby being gone and waking up several times because of my nose and a midnight phone call from our daughter. Couldn't go back to sleep til about 0530. Woke up at about 0830. Maybe I'll take a nap, maybe I won't. Anyway, I've had breakfast and tea and taken care of a little business and walked the pooch.

Dishes need to be done and laundry will need to be folded when it comes out the dryer. I've got projects scattered about and books/magazines placed strategically about the house so I can always plop and read if and when I feel like it. I've also got dozens of dvd's from the library to read and about 9 books on audio to listen to. What I DON'T plan on doing, is hanging about outside. The pollen is killer today. My Kizzy came inside with her fur coated in the stuff. Ugh. And of course all she wants is to lay up on me and have me pet her. And she has a bit of the winds....toxic.

Have a great day all!

Awww, it sounds like you have a lot to do. Good luck with all the chores and I hope you can relax a bit as well. How does one read a DVD? Pollen can be difficult.. I always feel bad if I have hayfever. Kizzy is your dog?

Lol, Gaia!!!! Blame it on the meds and fuzzy head!!! OMGosh, I'm laughing my head off (cause it is evidently of ABSOLUTELY no use to me right now).

I really shouldn't be allowed near a keyboard when I suffer from MHS (Muddle Head Syndrome).

That should read watching dvds!

Apparently two of my friends and I are going for a drive and a picnic on Saturday, in the direction of Mizen Head, which is the most southerly point in Ireland. I've wanted to go there for quite a while (sea! cliffs! apparently a bridge!) so I hope we make it all the way there. I'm really looking forward to it, both ladies have been a bit down over the suicide that occured in the building last week, so it's good to see their spirits up about something - and it's really nice to be included!

Wow, Nollaig, that looks absolutely beautiful! Hope you enjoy yourself! :D

Hope everyone who's feeling under the weather feels better soon, as well! :empathy:

Had quite a quiet day, although it's been nice. The deposit has been paid to go to the Malaysian rainforest for two weeks with my uni next year. Absolutely cannot wait- been looking forward to the trip for a year already, and the second years have just returned, and it looks like they had an incredible time! Also got the results of that oral presentation that we did last week, and I'm really happy with what my group and I got. Apart from that, it's been nice to just relax (even if I have just spent two hours revising phytoplankton blooms!). Went out to dinner with my grandparents and brother on Tuesday night, and tomorrow I'm taking my best friend to one of our local wildlife parks. I volunteer for the charity that looks after the park and their sister park (the one where I'm stationed. although I did do a month at the park we're going to tomorrow) so I can get us both in for free. She wants to see the baby Malayan tapir that was born in November, and I haven't seen the African painted dogs that were born in the new year, so it should be a great day! :D We're also off to York on Saturday for a week, which we're all needing right now!

Don't worry :giggle2:! It happens to all of us on occasion :).

I'm glad you got some good results and that things are going well in general for you :)!

I have a busy day today. I'm going to see my therapist this morning, then I might go to the supermarket later if I feel up for it, and I plan to have a shower and possibly make Easter buns. I don't think I'll have enough energy or time to make Easter cupcakes today so I'm going to leave that for tomorrow. I hope after all of that I have some energy and time left to read for a while, today.

My neighbours have a new puppy.  It woke me up barking at 3:45 this morning.  I got up at 4:15.  It barked continuously until 5:05.  I tried going back to bed at 5:20.  It started barking again at 5:40.  It's still barking now.  I love dogs, but this one is my least favourite at the moment.

Oh dear Claire, new puppies can be testing! It's quite likely they are ignoring the puppy so it doesn't learn it can be up at all hours, this is generally a quick process but no fun at the time! Jojo woke up at 5am for 3 months! But I did get with her and just got lots of early nights! Plus, we are detached so no neighbours were upset!

It could be that, and it's not the first time. A couple of weeks ago, the puppy started barking just before 6am on a Saturday morning … the first day in two weeks I'd had the chance for a lie-in! I didn't mind with that as it seemed to be a one-off, and I'm hoping this is just a bad night and won't be repeated tonight.

Funny you mention baking puppies. Since moving to the city I always worry about our dog baking in the wee hours of the morning or late at night. We let her out about 10:30pm and she wants to bark. She has all day to converse with the neighbor dogs when she goes out, nary a peep. She barks at night. I only let her stay long enough to do her business but still...and then I let her out at about 0500 and she wants to be The Lioness Queen! She does "roar" and kicks up the dirt like a bull. Sigh, it's too early for the nonsense. In the country we didn't worry about it here not so much.

Hopefully, the barking stops soon if not immediately.

Thanks muggle.  I think I was feeling a bit under the weather yesterday, and the lack of sleep didn't help.  I couldn't even pick up my book, and apart from popping out to see my dad, I did absolutely nothing all day, and went to bed early.  Fortunately, we had no barking last night, and I slept pretty well, so I'm feeling brighter this morning.

Going to make better use of the day today, and am planning to go and see the quilt exhibition at the sewing shop, participate some more in the read-a-thon, and get some sewing done myself.  Still three days left of the weekend, and I intend to make the most of the time off work.

Glad you're feeling brighter today, Claire :)

Well I had a FABULOUS time on my little road-trip yesterday - those of you I have on Facebook (if I'm missing anyone I talk to regularly here, feel free to add me - Nollaig Ní Riain) you can see the tons of photos I took but I'll stick a couple on here.

The weather was quite dull to start with - but dry and not too cold and trust me in Ireland if tis dry tis grand! And it brightened up over the course of the day. Stopped for a lovely little picnic on a beach near Mizen Head before continuing on and my lord it was beautiful. The Cliffs of Moher are a pretty famous Irish landmark, and honestly, Mizen head is every bit as impressive. Cliffs, sea caves and arches, couple of sea-stacks, a big bridge which gave fabulous views of the rocks below, a signal station full of documents and information about the work that went on there - it was lovely! And then on the way home we stopped at a beach we spotted and went for a bit of a paddle, it was really lovely, despite my numb feet! Got home then and sat around looking at the photos eating some burgers and chips - perfect end to the day!

I agree Noll, I have seen pictures of Ireland's coast, but had no idea you could just walk out there and take gorgeous pictures like that!  It must have been an amazing day trip!  I used to take day trips up and down California's coast when I was in my late teens, early 20's, I would've been all over that like sticky on rice :)

Off to grandpa's house, perhaps over the river and through the woods, as grandpa has a new house this Easter.  We will be over there for a part Easter/ Housewarming.  Egg hunt, egg dyeing, Easter baskets and chocolate bunnies, the whole works.
