Would You Rather..? Tag

Athena

Recommended Posts

I've been seeing videos of the Would You Rather Tag (BookTube Edition) on YouTube and thought it might be interesting if we answered the questions, to see what people would say (I'm not sure who made up these questions originally).

Here are the questions:

Would you rather...

1. Read only trilogies or stand alones?

2. Read only female or male authors?

3. Shop at a book shop or online?

4. All books become movies or tv shows?

5. Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?

6. Be a professional reviewer or author?

7. Only read your top 20 favorite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven't read before?

8. Be a librarian or book seller?

9. Only read your favorite genre, or every genre except your favorite?

10. Only read physical books or eBooks?

My answers:

1. Read only trilogies or stand alones?

Between trilogies and standalones I would pick standalones, because I read more standalones than trilogies. But if it was a choice between book series (regardless of how many in the series) and standalones.. I read them about evenly so I really wouldn't be able to choose there! I think I'd pick series because a lot of my favourite books are part of series.

2. Read only female or male authors?

This is a very difficult question! I don't think I could go without reading any female authors, mainly because I really want to have strong female leads in my books from time to time and you don't see this much with male authors. But.. in the fantasy and science-fiction genre for example, most books are written by male authors, and in the chick-lit genre most books are written by female authors.. oh the dilemma! If I must choose I'd pick female but there are so many great books written by male authors too.

3. Shop at a book shop or online?

This is another difficult question. Between a book shop and online I think I'd pick ordering online because they have more in stock there and because it's cheaper. The question doesn't mention book fairs, library sales and charity shops though.. if you count those as book shops, then I'd really miss them.

4. All books become movies or tv shows?

For the length of the story I prefer a tv show, because they can put more things from the book in there than in a film. So I think I'd pick TV show (even though a film is a nice conclusive thing that you can watch in an evening..).

5. Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?

I could not live reading just 5 pages per day! I'm currently reading one book every 1.5 days, so while 5 books per week would be more than I read now, I could definitely not read just 5 pages per day, so I'm picking 5 books per week.

6. Be a professional reviewer or author?

Both of these sound nice in principle. I don't think I have more than a few books in me though and I don't think I'd want to be paid for writing reviews because the person who pays you will decide which books you have to read (and I don't like reading because I 'have to'). But I guess I'll pick professional reviewer, since that way at least I'd get to read lots of books, whereas when you're an author you have to work really hard if you want to make a living out of it.

7. Only read your top 20 favorite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven't read before?

I would pick new ones. There are so many books I still want to read, and I couldn't live on just reading the same 20 books over and over again. I generally read more new books compared with re-reads anyway.

8. Be a librarian or book seller?

This is a tricky one. I think either of them have nice qualities to them. As a book seller you'd get all the new books in the shop. As a librarian you get people who borrow the books who are usually passionate about reading (whereas in a book shop people might also buy a gift). I think I'd pick to be a librarian because the people in the library are usually passionate about reading plus I'd get to put all the books back on their shelves after people hand them in (seriously, this is a job I could perhaps do at some point in the future when I have more energy).

9. Only read your favorite genre, or every genre except your favorite?

Some people on YouTube answered this question with 'YA' being their favourite genre. Personally I think 'YA' is an agerange, not a genre. If 'adult' books is a genre I'd pick to read just 'adult' books (as I prefer adult books over YA and children's books), but I consider that a bit of cheating. My favourite genre of books would be fantasy I think, and in that case I'd pick to read all genres but my favourite, because I like a lot of other genres too. I don't think I could read just fantasy (I did do this though for several years when I was younger), I want more of a variety in books.

10. Only read physical books or eBooks?

This is an easy one for me. I pick only read physical books, because I have a strong preference for physical books. I read ebooks from time to time and I do like my Kindle, but I much prefer the feel of a paperbook in my hands and the look of the books on my shelves.

What are your answers?

My answers:

1. Read only trilogies or stand alones?

I think if I was forced to choose, I would plump for stand-alones. Sometimes, trilogies can start to tail off on the final book. I have found some, where the middle book just feels like filler, making up the number for the final. If I was forced to only read trilogies and this happened, I would get a bit fed up.

2. Read only female or male authors?

I agree with Athena above; there are certain genres that are very male dominated, so if you put a gun to my head, I would probably choose male. I'd probably have to cheat on this one, and keep a secretive stash of female-authored books!

3. Shop at a book shop or online?

Book shop. I love the convienience of shopping online, but I love bookshops too much to stop going in them

4. All books become movies or tv shows?

They can fit more of the story into a TV show, so I'd go for that.

5. Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?

There is no way I could retain information reading 5 books a week, and that to me sounds more of a chore than a pleasure, so 5 pages it would have to be.

6. Be a professional reviewer or author?

I don't have the talent or the patience to do either in reality, but I don't remember ever dreaming of being a reviewer! Author all the way.

7. Only read your top 20 favorite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven't read before?

It would have to be new books. I couldn't exist reading the same 20 books for the rest of my life, no matter how much I like them.

8. Be a librarian or book seller?

The idea of having a job that involves sitting in a room full of books all day appeals greatly to me! Librarian probably just edges it, as I suspect it's a slightly more relaxed job.

9. Only read your favorite genre, or every genre except your favorite?

I read so many different genres of book, and I don't think I could pick one as my favourite.

10. Only read physical books or eBooks?

Ooh, difficult. On the one hand, I love physical books. But on the other hand, I have very little space in the house for them, so I don't tend to keep them, whereas as e-books, that isn't an issue obviously. So, with regret (as Lord Sugar would say), I'm going with ebooks.

1. Read only trilogies or stand alones?

Ooo, that really depends. But if I absolutely had to make a choice, I'd say a stand-alone. A triology can often become like a really long novel.

2. Read only female or male authors?

Wooosch. As a female myself, I guess I will say females.

3. Shop at a book shop or online?

Book shop, but only if they have the same prices as the online store. Money is first priority.

4. All books become movies or tv shows?

Tv-series. I get restless while watching long movies. 12 episode tv-series.

5. Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?

I could never read 5 books a week, so I'd be forced to choose only 5 pages per day.

6. Be a professional reviewer or author?

Author! Easy question.

7. Only read your top 20 favorite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven't read before?

Only read new ones. Another easy question.

8. Be a librarian or book seller?

Book seller most definitely. I prefer new books over overly used.

9. Only read your favorite genre, or every genre except your favorite?

Oh boy... Hmmm.... This one was the most difficult question to answer!!! I think read only from my favorite genre. I'd hate to never ever get to read crime fiction ever again.

10. Only read physical books or eBooks?

Physical books all the way.

Ooh...this is a good topic! Here are my answers:

Would you rather...

1. Read only trilogies or stand alones?

Stand alone

2. Read only female or male authors?

Umm...this one's a toughie. If I had to choose...male.

3. Shop at a book shop or online?

Book shop. It's all about the atmosphere. Also, I'm very tactile, so,holding the actual book is important.

4. All books become movies or tv shows?

Tv shows. (Or at least a miniseries!) I think they could go into much more detail, staying truer to the story) and you could get to know the characters better.

5. Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?

I'd much rather read five books per week, but five pages per day seems to be what I can manage these days.

6. Be a professional reviewer or author?

Professional reviewer.

7. Only read your top 20 favorite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven't read before?

I love to re-read my favorites. Most of them are falling apart.

8. Be a librarian or book seller?

A book seller who doesn't have to make a profit.

1. Read only trilogies or stand alones? If I had to pick one or the other, it would be stand alones.
2. Read only female or male authors?  Gosh, I don't know.  I read more by female authors, but that isn't really a conscious choice.  Based on that however, I'll go for female authors.
3. Shop at a book shop or online?  At a bookshop.  I enjoy browsing, picking up books, reading the blurb, etc., etc.
4. All books become movies or tv shows?  TV shows.  They generally allow for more time to develop the story and characters.
5. Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?  5 books per week.
6. Be a professional reviewer or author?  Definitely author.
7. Only read your top 20 favorite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven't read before?  I'll say new ones.  I have a few books which I reread from time to time, but I just love discovering new books and authors.
8. Be a librarian or book seller?  A librarian.  I think.  I'd love either job to be honest!
9. Only read your favorite genre, or every genre except your favourite?  Favourite genre.  Although I don't really have one, so that might be tricky.
10. Only read physical books or eBooks?  Definitely physical books.  It's just a personal thing, but although I've tried, I just can't get along with ebooks.

1. Read only trilogies or stand alones?

Although I enjoy book series I have to go with stand alone books for this. My reading mood varies all the time so having a wide range of genres to choose from. I also tend to leave large gaps between reading books in series and tend to forget things from the earlier books.

2. Read only female or male authors?

I have no overall preference but I do tend to read mostly male authors to I will opt for that option.

3. Shop at a book shop or online?

Book shops. Just like probably everyone on here I adore book shops and can spend all day in one just browsing the shelves.

4. All books become movies or tv shows?

Ummm, movies I guess.

5. Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?

As much as I like reading I don't think I could cope with 5 books a week, I need breaks from reading.

6. Be a professional reviewer or author?

I really like the idea of being an author even though I don't write, I'm not sure I would want to make reading something I had to do as a job.

7. Only read your top 20 favorite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven't read before?

Always reading new books. I don't tend to re-read books.

8. Be a librarian or book seller?

This is a tough one as they are both pretty appealing. If I had to choose one I would go for being a librarian.

9. Only read your favorite genre, or every genre except your favorite?

Every genre except my favorite, variety is the spice of life.

10. Only read physical books or eBooks?

I read both, but if I had to give one up I would give up the ebook option.

Some of these are really tricky!

1. Read only trilogies or stand alones?

Stand-alones. I don't read a huge number of series anyway, and I think there are more standalones out there than trilogies.

2. Read only female or male authors?

Most of the books that I read seem to be by male authors, so I would go with that option.

3. Shop at a book shop or online?

Oooh, tricky. See, I prefer ebooks, so I have to say online. However, if I did prefer physical books then I would say a book shop, as I do like running my hands over a book, especially one with an interesting cover (ie. different material and embossed).

4. All books become movies or tv shows?

Movies.

5. Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?

My first thought was 5 books per week, but in reality I just don't have time for that. So, I'd have to pick 5 pages a day.

6. Be a professional reviewer or author?

Reviewer. I would get to read so much variety.

7. Only read your top 20 favorite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven't read before?

As much as I love my re-reads, I would choose to only read new ones. As good as some of my favourites are, there's a limit to how many times I can read them. :giggle2:

8. Be a librarian or book seller?

Librarian. Not sure why, but it just seems more appealing than a bookseller. Maybe because it's so removed from the business side of things.

9. Only read your favorite genre, or every genre except your favorite?

I don't actually have a favourite genre - unless you can classify general fiction as a genre. So, I would choose every genre except my favourite.

10. Only read physical books or eBooks?

Due to storage issues, I have to go with ebooks. We live in a small house, and will most likely always do so, so for me it's ebooks.

  • 2 years later...

I love these type of threads so wanted to do this one

1) Read only trilogies or stand alones?

Stand alones

2) Read only male or female authors?

Interestingly enough, I had read more books by male authors than female but I think I would choose female if I had to

3) Shop at a book shop or online?

First choice would be at a book shop, that to me is like being a kid in a sweet shop. However, still quite like looking online too.

4) All books become movies or TVs shows?

Both

5) Read five pages per day or five books per week?

I would prefer five books per week but that is unlikely to happen, but will still choose that one

6) Be a professional reviewer or author?

Neither haha. Author more so.

7) Only Read your top 20 favourite books over and over or only read new ones you haven't read before?

Without a doubt new ones I haven't read before. With all the books out there it has to be done. Also my to read pile is over 1000 where as my read is over 200, so that speaks for itself

8) Be a librarian or book seller?

I think a book seller.

9) only read your favourite genre or every genre except your favourite?

This is a tough one, but I would have to go with my favourite.

10) Read only physical books or e-books?

100% physical books. They're just love!

My answers:

1. Read only trilogies or stand alones? I would have to go with stand alones, because a lot of my favorite books are stand alones, and sometimes you don't need the rest of the series. (Though I would want it.)
2. Read only female or male authors? Ooh. Tricky. That's a difficult one. Male authors do dominate a lot of my favorite genres, but to give up all my favorite female authors? Agh. If forced, probably male, because the sad fact is, there are more books written by men.
3. Shop at a book shop or online? Book store. No contest. They have other people that love to read, the paper copies of books, a place to browse easily.
4. All books become movies or tv shows?

I'd have to say probably movies, because movies often stick closer to the plot.

5. Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?

Clearly I would choose 5 books! Why read less?
6. Be a professional reviewer or author?

I would want to be an author. Because I love to write, even though I'm not talented, and I love authors. I would want to share that legacy.
7. Only read your top 20 favorite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven't read before?

That's a difficult one, because I love my books so much. However, there is a world of books out there, and I want to read them.
8. Be a librarian or book seller?

I would probably want to be a librarian, to help people find books.
9. Only read your favorite genre, or every genre except your favorite?

For this one, I would say every genre except my favorite. I love books, and want to read as many as possible.
10. Only read physical books or eBooks?

There's nothing like a physical book to curl up with.  :readingtwo:

1) Read only trilogies or stand alones?

Both - although trilogies have a habit of growing!

2) Read only male or female authors?

Not bothered, although my books seem to be by mainly female authors.

3) Shop at a book shop or online?

shop first, then online if shops don't have it, or it's much cheaper online.

4) All books become movies or TVs shows?

Both

5) Read five pages per day or five books per week?

5 books would be impossible, so 5 pages a day

6) Be a professional reviewer or author?

Neither - just think of all the rubbish I'd have to read as well as the good stuff!

7) Only Read your top 20 favourite books over and over or only read new ones you haven't read before?

New ones

8) Be a librarian or book seller?

Either

9) only read your favourite genre or every genre except your favourite?

My favourite.

10) Read only physical books or e-books?

100% physical books - I don't have an e-reader.

Would you rather...
1. Read only trilogies or stand alones?

I seem to read more series, so probably trilogies

2. Read only female or male authors?

Not sure. I don't notice the gender of the authors I read

3. Shop at a book shop or online?

Definitely bookshop.

4. All books become movies or tv shows?

I don't watch movies much, so probably TV shows.

5. Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?

I read more than 5 pages per day usually, but I couldn't read 5 books per week, so I think I'll go with the first one.

6. Be a professional reviewer or author?

Author, I've always wanted to write and I'm terrible at writing book reviews.

7. Only read your top 20 favorite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven't read before?

New ones. I rarely reread.

8. Be a librarian or book seller?

Considering librarian is what I've wanted to do since I was 4, this is a no-brainer.

9. Only read your favorite genre, or every genre except your favorite?

Favourite genre. I couldn't go without reading crime books. And some other genres I don't like at all.

10. Only read physical books or eBooks?

Physical. I don't like ebooks.
