What's the weather like?

It's been somewhat cold and grey for more than a month here, with sometimes some rain, hail or wind. I hope we'll see the sun more often in the spring. Apparently this past December was the 'greyest' December ever recorded here (most hours with completely overcast sky).

Fog and ice.  I worked late last night and had to scrape the ice off the car before I could drive home, and then got up this morning, and looking across the rooftops, you'd have thought it had snowed, there was so much white out there, but it was actually just frost and ice. :cold:

HOT!!!  34C yesterday, and about the same today.  We've been getting days of 27-30C since November.  Our usual summer weather is maybe 5 days of 25+ in February, and the rest of summer about 22-23ish.  Getting high temps like this is very unusual for us.  Even overnight it's nearly always 18C, again for over three months.  And what is normally the hottest part of summer for us is still to come.  I know some of the Americans on here are used to summers hotter than this, but we aren't.  We've also been getting huge thunderstorms every afternoon/evening because of the heat.   Saturday the thunder started at 1pm and didn't stop until after 7pm.

What makes it harder for us, unlike most Americans, is many of us don't have air conditioning, although with the rising popularity of heatpumps which can also be used for cooling, it's becoming more common. Did you see Invercargill's temps today and yesterday, bookmonkey? :o

I saw that Poppy.  Incredible heat down there where they often don't get any higher than about 15.  We got into the 30s again today.  We have a fan at home, but that isn't really doing much in this heat.

Can't remember, are you Nth or Sth Is? If it gets too hot I just wilt, hate it. The last couple of days have got into the higher 20's, but not too bad. Had quite a bit of rain lately though,  makes things steamy.

I could never understand the lack of air conditioning in European nations. I can't deal with the heat and I live in the south. During the summer months I literally go into hibernation. If I can't get it done early in the morning then it won't get done. Its funny because I have air conditioning but can't tolerate "canned air" much either so I wait til it gets just hot enough before turning it on for the summer. I don't like riding in my truck with it on. I'd rather drive with the windows down. Drives dh crazy. But I have arthritis in my bones and it just makes life uncomfortable to be too cold.

Speaking of cold, today was a fairly decent day but tomorrow promises to be messy and cold. We've already brought in wood in case I decide to light the fire place. The menfolk have already put in the cold weather comfort meal for tomorrow and I've gotten it out to thaw. Got the warm fuzzy plaid jammies and slippers on the ready. I may go check on my client tomorrow depending on how the weather is. If its not too bad I'll go by. Once I get home that will be it. I drive well in all weather but I have a phobia of other folks driving. Having been in law enforcement I have seen things and what I know about where I live is that when the weather turns ugly, people lose their dang minds and forget what wipers and breaks are for. So I stay put!

Well, here in the Netherlands it doesn't often get hot, air conditioning is available but expensive to buy and have installed into your house, so most people don't have it (as far as I'm aware). I think every car sold here has airconditioning though (people often go on holidays to warmer countries). My grandparents have air conditioning in their upstairs floor that they had installed a while ago, because it can get pretty hot there in summer, and the air conditioning can also heat the room up so it will get warm in winter if it's too cold. But generally it is somewhat expensive so most people don't do it for those relatively not so many days a year. Most newer houses are better isolated so if you don't open the windows too often (of course often enough to have fresh air), it won't get too hot in summer depending on the house.

Temperatures above 30 °C are quite rare, though in the past few years we've had more heatwaves than before I feel. My parents' farm stays nice and relatively cool in the summer, but the bakery heats up more easily due to bad isolation. We have an upstairs floor with attic and my boyfriend's office (slanted roof upstairs), and we have a downstairs floor with living room / kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. Upstairs it can get really hot in summer (so hot the thermometer upstairs goes off the gauge) and in the winter it gets really cold up there (to the point of freezing). There is a hatch between upstairs and downstairs, so if neither of us has to be upstairs and it's a bit cold, we tend to keep it shut to preserve the heat downstairs.

Right now it's a couple of degrees above °C outside, we've had some rain and hail and a little bit of snow today so far, sky is overcast. The past month and a half we've not seen much direct sunlight, as it has almost always been overcast during the day. It's not cold enough outside for the snow and hail to stay, so it does melt away. I'm feeling kind of cold.
