Anna Begins
Wow- That's some good reading! I think I counted more than 40. Curious as to what you thought of Divergent. A Thousand Splendid Suns is on my TBR list for this year... I just read And The Mountains Echoed which I liked. What would be your favorites of the year so far? I liked The Kite Runner much better than A Thousand Splendid Suns. maybe I just got tired of reading about Afghanistan. I really liked the Divergent trio. My favorite so far this year is probably Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King. I just finished, today, Don't Let Me Go by Catherine Ryan Hyde and loved the book, probably as much as Walk Me Home and definitely more than When I Found You. Is Don't Let Me Go the next one of hers I should read? I loved both books, Walk Me Home and When I Found You. I wanted to read another one of hers next, actually and there are so many good sounding ones. Glad you liked Divergent! I just sailed through Mr Mercedes, so yummy the whole way Edited July 10, 2014 by Anna Begins

I just sailed through Mr Mercedes, so yummy the whole way I just downloaded "Djibouti" by Elmore Leonard from the library. I also requested the library to purchse "The Girl That Saved the King of Sweden by Jonas Jonasson so that I can read it soon. I definitely recommend Don't Let Me Go as a very good book by Ryan Hyde. After I read the Elmore Leonard book I will probably read another of Ryan Hydes', don't know which one yet. I also pre-ordered the kindle edition of "Wayfaring Stranger - A Novel" by one of my favorite authors....James Lee Burke. oh yeah, I also have the newest book by David Baldacci on hold at the library. I think I am #71 on the hold list. The library has 11 copies though so it shouldn't be too long before I get my read. Agh- I so want to read The Girl That Saved the King of Sweden... hopefully this year lol I think The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared is my favorite read of the year so far. And thanks for that recommendation, I have a ton of samples on my Kindle of Hyde's.
Athena
You've read a lot of books, Muggle! I'm glad you liked the Divergent series, I loved them too. I'm also glad you liked the Catherine Ryan Hyde books, I have those two on my TBR. I hope your reading goes well in the second half of 2014 too . muggle not
I'm 15% into Don't let Me Go and crying already. LOL, and it gets better. Oh, how I love Ryan Hyde's writing. An introduction for other members: Former Broadway dancer and current agoraphobic Billy Shine has not set foot outside his apartment in almost a decade. He has glimpsed his neighbors—beautiful manicurist Rayleen, lonely old Ms. Hinman, bigoted and angry Mr. Lafferty, kind-hearted Felipe, and 9-year-old Grace and her former addict mother Eileen. But most of them have never seen Billy. Not until Grace begins to sit outside on the building’s front stoop for hours every day, inches from Billy’s patio. Troubled by this change in the natural order, Billy makes it far enough out onto his porch to ask Grace why she doesn’t sit inside where it’s safe. Her answer: “If I sit inside, then nobody will know I’m in trouble. And then nobody will help me.” Her answer changes everything. Little Pixie
Lots of lovely Robert B Parker books there. After watching the series, I quite fancy trying one of the King & Maxwell Baldacci books.
muggle not
Lots of lovely Robert B Parker books there. After watching the series, I quite fancy trying one of the King & Maxwell Baldacci books. I am a big fan of Baldacci and have read all of his books except the latest (I am on hold at the library for it). One of my favorite Baldacci books is "Wish You Well" which is kinda different from most of his writing. Baldacci started a "foundation" which he financially supports in honor of the book titled the "Wish You Well Foundation" which ....... Supports family literacy in the United States by fostering and promoting the development and expansion of new and existing literacy and educational programs. Parker Three-Ten to Yuma and Other Stories - Elmore Leonard Hombre - Elmore Leonard Valdez Is Coming – Elmore Leonard I added Djibouti and Wayfaring Stranger to the list of books read in 2014. Wayfaring Stranger by James Lee burke was outstanding. His prose is just mind boggling. From Amazon: In his most ambitious work yet, New York Times bestseller James Lee Burke tells a classic American story through one man's unforgettable life—connecting a fateful encounter with Bonnie and Clyde to heroic acts at the Battle of the Bulge and finally to the high-stakes gambles and cutthroat players who ushered in the dawn of the American oil industry. In 1934, sixteen-year-old Weldon Avery Holland happens upon infamous criminals Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow after one of their notorious armed robberies. A confrontation with the outlaws ends with Weldon firing a gun and being unsure whether it hit its mark. Ten years later, Second Lieutenant Weldon Holland barely survives the Battle of the Bulge, in the process saving the lives of his sergeant, Hershel Pine, and a young Spanish prisoner of war, Rosita Lowenstein—a woman who holds the same romantic power over him as the strawberry blonde Bonnie Parker, and is equally mysterious. The three return to Texas where Weldon and Hershel get in on the ground floor of the nascent oil business. In just a few years’ time Weldon will spar with the jackals of the industry, rub shoulders with dangerous men, and win and lose fortunes twice over. But it is the prospect of losing his one true love that will spur his most reckless, courageous act yet—one that takes its inspiration from that encounter long ago with the outlaws of his youth. A tender love story and pulse-pounding thriller that crosses continents and decades of American history, Wayfaring Stranger “is a sprawling historical epic full of courage and loyalty and optimism and good-heartedness that reads like an ode to the American Dream” (Benjamin Percy, Poets & Writers). muggle not
I just finished reading Wayfaring Stranger by JLB. This is a post from JLB on his site: I hope you enjoy Wayfaring Stranger. It's the best book and the most biographical one I have written. Nothing else of mine comes close to it. I dedicated it to the memory of my beloved first cousin, Weldon Benbow "Buddy" Mallette, who walked all the way to the Elbe River and came home with two Bronze Stars and the Silver Star and three Purple Hearts. I believe the women in this story are the most interesting and engaging and complex I've written about. I think the postwar era was a golden age, and I don't believe my feelings are simply an expression of generational nostalgia. I'll always be proud I was witness to the events that characterized the era in which I grew up, and I'm also proud that I've written about it with some degree of objectivity. When all is said and done, it was a grand time to be around.

Amazon just recommended Second Hand Heart by Hyde to me, you might wanna check it out for a TBR. It's quickly moving up mine. I may as well just go ahead and order all of Hyde's books. Actually, it isn't a bad idea as I enjoy her stories so well. I enjoyed Becoming Chloe. I picked it out over some others of Hyde's because the library had it and it was a free read. I am sure you would also like it. I enjoyed it better than "When I Found You" but not as well as Walk Me Home or Don't Let Me Go. btw, Poppy is now reading Hyde's "Don't Let Me Go and I think she is enjoying the book. I think I might have gotten Athena to read Don't Let Me Go too It's hard to pick a better book of hers than that one (so far) People just don't know what they're missing!
