In need of some new book recommendations

Recommended Posts

Hello all.

I am 14, and a very mature reader. Some of my favourite YA books would probably be John Green's 'TFIOS', Rainbow Rowell's 'Fangirl', David Levithan's 'Everyday', Stephenie Meyer's 'Twilight' series, Suzanne Collins' 'The Hunger Games' and so far, Markus Zusak's 'The Book Thief', in which I am halfway through.

Though these books are different topics, I am in need for some new YA book recommendations, for after The Book Thief and Looking for Alaska, also by John Green, I will be stuck on what to look for next! I am one for almost all genres, but I take a special interest in realistic books, and some futuristic books such as The Hunger Games, and I have heard that The Maze Runner kind of falls into that genre.. I will be sure to keep an eye out for that one.

So please, if you know of any teenage books with great recommendations, please let me know. I don't know if this site is English or not, but I certainly am, and so if you have any book recommendations for me, please let me know if they are being sold in any nearby shops. Thank you.

Many thanks, fellow Book Clubbers.

Off the top of my head, based on the ones you've read, I would recommend the Chaos Walking series from Patrick Ness - the books are The Knife of Never Letting Go,  The Ask and the Answer and Monsters of Men.  I'll have a think about it and come back with some more later on. :)

I can recommend Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments series, and her Infernal Devices series. Both series are fast paced urban fantasy.

Beth Revis wrote a really good SF trilogy; Across The Universe, A Million Suns and Shades Of Earth.

There are definitely more I could recommend, but I will have to check my reading list to remind myself of them.

Both Divergent by Veronica Roth and Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson are good.  Divergent is more geared toward girls and Steelheart to guys, I loved them both.  Both are Dystopian and Steelheart is SF.

Here are some English YA books I really enjoyed:

Veronica Roth - Divergentseries (dystopian)

Gabrielle Zevin - Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac (contemporary)

Jay Asher - Thirteen Reasons Why (contemporary)

Maria V. Snyder - Study series and Glass series (fantasy)

Cate Tiernan - Wicca series (paranormal)

Holly Smale - Geek Girl series (contemporary)

I have some more YA on my TBR.

There are some more YA that I really liked by Dutch authors but most of those haven't been translated.

Wow! Thanks for all of the suggestions, guys. I have put all of them onto a reading list that has grown massively since about 2 hours ago. I appreciate your recommendations.

I hope you enjoy the books :)! And yes, that does happen a lot here :P.

I love YA, and based on some of the books you've read I think you will like the Hourglass trilogy by Myra McEnitre, Juliet Immortal by Stacey Jay, and Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls) series by Maggie Stiefvater.   Hourglass has time travel, some violence and a love triangle.  Juliet Immortal is a really modern and paranomal take on Romeo and Juliet (Romeo is a villian).  Shiver, Linger, & Forever are supranatural romance about balancing a human life and living as a wolf.

Oh, I almost forgot about Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver.

Happy reading!
