Talisman, I'm glad to hear you're liking your new job :).

Bookmonkey, the book shop sounds really nice, I'm glad you had a good day at the beach with your children :).

Sofia, I hope your daughter has a lot of fun at her prom :). Here it's not quite the same as in the UK I think. We did have some sort of festival when I was in my last year of school (a 'gala', with lots of loud music at school), but I didn't go.

Tiger, I'm glad you're liking your course, good luck :)!

Chesilbeach, good luck with your sewing :).

Chrissy, that sounds like a great weekend :).

I had a great day yesterday. I was feeling a bit tired but not as tired as on Sunday (when I was very tired), surprisingly. My boyfriend baked me a surprise cake, which was really sweet of him :).

Athena, that was so sweet of him!  What a nice surprise!  Was there an occasion or just because?  I'm glad you have more energy today.  Sunday was a sleepy day for me, too.  It was perfect weather for a nap, so I very happily obliged Mother Nature and took a nice long one.

Well, I wanted to make brownies somewhere this week, but my brother used up my brownies supplies and then he and my family ate some of the brownies and he took the rest of them with him (he only comes here in the weekends). I was quite upset over this (I don't like it when people use up my stuff without asking me), so my boyfriend made me some half full cake with added chocolate, cinnamon and brown sugar. It was really sweet of him (and yummy!) :).

We've got that this year too.  My son got his licence a month ago, and in a few months will be old enough to vote.  It's making me feel old.

She'll start driving school this summer as well :(

I'm torn between saying "oh, no!" and "how fun!".  Did you find the dress?

Yes...she found a really cute one...short and sassy!

I hear with Mother's Day fast approaching Mills and Boon are hosting an afternoon tea at a venue in Covent Garden. Adele Parks and Judy Astley are also attending to perform readings from their latest anthology Truly, Madly, Deeply.

Look at their website which as more details! Already have my ticket :)

It has been an interesting week for me what with starting the new job. This new place is still in social care, but rather than working with the elderly, it's a facility for disabled adults, where they are taught various life skills. I seem to be settling in well and making friends with staff and residents alike - the residents are a mixture of supported living and those with more specialist needs that are in the 17 bed care home that is on site - there are a lot with Downs and various types of autism. They teach them various life skills for independent living - namely IT, catering, textiles, horticulture and retail (selling the products made in the other categories). During this beautiful weather I have been making excuses to spend time outdoors in the horticulture unit. The staff can buy the fruit and veg that is grown there, and tonight we shall be sampling parsnips from the garden, which I am looking forward to.

Sounds like a good place. When I had my gap year I was living with a woman with learning disabilities, helping her to live independently. Unfortunately it go cut short when I broke my leg (just before I joined here, actually), but I enjoyed it while it lasted.

I've got a few days off work. Really need the break. Today I spent most of my time tidying, but I still want to sort out my bookshelves. Want to do some baking tomorrow, probably flapjack. Wednesday I have my driving test- I WILL pass this time!

Hey y'all!

Spent the morning getting my mouth turned hither and yon. Had a nasty cavity that needed tending. My dentist is wonderful. Didn't feel a thing. But now the Novocain is wearing off and I'm finding that I can pinpoint every twist, turn and yank my mouth was placed. Ugh. Still, glad its done! As its Monday and ugly as the proverbial stepsister outside and my mouth is bothering me, think I'll just call it a day.

Best of luck on your driver's exam.  If it makes you feel any better, it took me three tries to pass!

Dental work is the worst!  It sounds like some rest is just what you need.  Get well soon!

Good luck with your driving test!!

It took me five :blush2: (after four times I was allowed to go to a special bureau to do it and then I passed).

My sprained foot is almost healed.  Early spring seems to be here and this week hayfever decided to show up too.

x

Awww :(. I have hayfever too and it's starting for me as well. It's not too bad yet at the moment really, but it'll probably get worse in a while.

I am enjoying four days off from work - I have only been in the new job for 2 1/2 weeks, but the holiday year comes to an end on 31st March, and apparently I will accrue 2 days this month, so as the other housekeeper is off next week (the last week of March) I have to take mine beforehand. Coran and I then drove into Crawley this morning to pick up a new computer for Coran and went for a nice lunch in Pizza Hut before driving back to Dorking to give blood.

Congratulations, Lucy!  :)

I have a rough task ahead tomorrow.  One of our Calico's,  Flopsy was diagnosed with bladder cancer last week.  She has worsened and weakened, now, to the degree, I have made the decision to bring her in to be put to sleep.  She'd be 17 this May.  She is one of three that were found on our property only hours after being born.  Her mother was apparently dumped and had them in the bushes alongside our driveway.  I found them while working in the yard.  I don't know how her sisters will cope without her.....they've never been apart, aside from a few vet visits.

I'm fortunate in that the vet comes out to the house to give the yearly vaccinations.

Hooray for an unexpected mini-vacation!  I hope you have a lovely time.

I passed my driving test! Thanks for the good wishes everyone :)

Back at work today, my body did not like the lack of lie in.

Congratulations!  That's such exciting news.

I'm so sorry to hear that.  Pets are like family, especially after so many years...I'll be thinking of all of you tomorrow.

Awwww :( that's very sad. I'm glad she had a good life with you. I wish you lots of strength in the coming while, she'll be missed.

I'm busy reorganising my book shelves. I can't do it too long in a day, otherwise I get too tired. Yesterday I made a start with it and also did a lot of cooking so I was quite exhausted. I find it a lot of fun though being busy with my books, I think it'll look better once I'm done compared with how it was before. I'll post pictures in my reading thread when it's done.

Thanks dtrpath, and Athena.....yes, they are family.  :)

It's something that I dread with the others as well, but one mustn't think too closely about it.  Cross that bridge when we get to it, not before.

I spent an enjoyable 1.5 hours at my university for Spring Visitation Day. Its when incoming freshmen/transfer students get to meet faculty and future classmates pertaining to their chosen major or give them information on the degree programs if they haven't decided. It was really nice being on campus. I miss it. Due to some family issues over the past few months and financial burdens, I was unable to return for my last semester this spring. I am DETERMINED to be back in August!

One thing that it did bring home to me is that I feel most at home on a college campus. I want to work at my university and so I plan to do lots of volunteering and clubs to get my face/name out there. Even if I can start at a part time capacity I'll be thrilled.

Now I'm home working on my resume and doing some online applications so I can have some kind of summer work. I will work just about anything over the summer just to meet some needed goals. Wish  me luck!

I finally had a letter today from the District Manager at my old job re the grievance I put in. He has basically dismissed everything that I said, which is not altogether surprising, as I was warned by various people that they would try and whitewash over everything. I am despite this still disappointed, as I had hoped this would change things for the better for those that are still there.

Having said this, people only change when they are ready, and when they are prepared to admit when it is necessary. Before that happens, they have to also admit when they have been wrong. If there is one thing I have learnt from this experience it has been that they were never going to do that, as to them it would be like losing face. In the end though it doesn't matter, for I still have my integrity intact even if they are prepared to compromise their own.
