Another year, another reading log!  Very simple this year, even simpler than last year in that I will have a TBR list and nothing else, no challenges, no targets, no pressure, just reading, reading and more reading. (Hopefully!) :)

Feel free to post. :)

That's a few of us have said we're not setting ourselves any targets this year - wonder what it was about 2013 that put us off them?  :o  :giggle2:

Have a fabulous 2014, chalie, reading and otherwise  :D

ETA:  Nora Roberts books for 99p on Kindle in today's Daily Deal

Thanks Steve! I realised I was thinking more about targets than just reading for enjoyment, let's see how it goes. :)

I saw the Nora Roberts books thanks, I may get one or two but only have the kindle app on my iPad and don't enjoy reading on there very much, I definitely prefer my Kobo. :)

Happy New Year, chalie! I hope you have a great reading year, and that Jojo will be a bit more willing to let you have a bit more reading time... :giggle:

Can't wait to hear your thoughts on these! :)

Juster, Norton - The Phantom Tollbooth

Hehe this will make Kylie happy, and even more happy if you get to reading it this year!

Shafer, Mary Ann - The Guernsey Literary and Potato Pie Society

I really hope you enjoy this one, it's such a darling book :smile2:

Thanks Marie. :)

Happy New Year, chalie! I hope you have a great reading year, and that Jojo will be a bit more willing to let you have a bit more reading time... :giggle:

Thanks Sari, She is improving all the time, though still likes being up at 645, I'm amazed every morning that she barks at almost exactly that time, within a few minutes, I even turned around the clock that was facing her as I can't figure out how she does it, :giggle:  it doesn't matter what time I put her to bed, that is her time and she's sticking to it!  :P  I can't see me having much more time this year as I am hoping that now she is approaching 7 months I will be able to start at an agility club with her, plus once a fortnight we will also be having a go at Search and Rescue training which is very exciting!  :jump:

On your TBR:

Allende, Isabel - Daughter of Fortune

I forget: Have you read any Isabel Allende before?

I read The House of the Spirits in 2013 which I thoroughly enjoyed, though I found it a bit heavy going at times it was worth the effort.

Bradshaw, John - In Defence of Dogs

Cameron, W.Bruce - A Dog's Journey

Powell, Neil - Search Dogs and Me

Can't wait to hear your thoughts on these!

I really want to get to them soon! I have some non-fiction doggy books I need to add to my TBR list too, I tend to not include them in my lists but I must! I bough Search Dogs and me with money my lovely Nan gave me for Christmas, hopefully it will give me some helpful hints before we start our training.

Howey, Hugh - Wool

Oh wow, you did you come about this one? Ex told me about it, and I'm curious.

I'm trying to remember who said about it on the forum, I think maybe Laura and someone else have liked it..

Juster, Norton - The Phantom Tollbooth

Hehe this will make Kylie happy, and even more happy if you get to reading it this year!

Then read it I must! :D

Shafer, Mary Ann - The Guernsey Literary and Potato Pie Society

I really hope you enjoy this one, it's such a darling book

I've only heard good things so I really should read it soon.

Black, Holly - The Coldest Girl in Coldtown

I've recently read one, and really liked it. I also like Holly Black's writing, I've just listened to her Curse Workers series and it made my top 10 for the year. I've also just bought Tithe, which I'm hoping to start today.

Henry, April - Girl, Stolen

Hmm, an ok read, but there wasn't much to it. Had a rather young feel to it.

Howey, Hugh - Wool

I gave up on this one, but I may go back to it.

Johnson, Maureen - 13 Little Blue Envelopes

I haven't read this one, but I liked her writing in The Name of the Star

Kagawa, Julie - The Eternity Cure

This is the 2nd one, isn't it? I haven't yet gotten around to it.

King, Stephen - 11:22:63
King, Stephen - Needful Things
King, Stephen - The Stand
King, Stephen - Under The Dome

Did you say you haven't read King yet? 11:22:63 isn't really horror, but I think it's a very good piece of writing. I like The Stand, but it's not my favourite of his - it's a long one. Needful Things I can't remember, and Under The Dome I couldn't get into.

Terry, Teri - Fractured

Already mentioned in my thread - go buy Slated!

Truss, Lynne - Eats, Shoots and Leaves

Read ages ago, I think I liked it.

Walton, Jo - Among Others

This is a slow read, but worth it - just make sure you're in the right 'mood' for a slower read.

Yancey, Rick - The 5th Wave

Excellent read, another in my top 10.

Yes, I bought it on your recommendation,  ;)  I quite fancy starting it soon, but I really must finish The Invention of Wings first (only 37 pages in but liking it very much) and then need to read The Secret History for the reading circle.  I am away for a couple of days from tomorrow so hopefully I can make time for some reading. :)

Henry, April - Girl, Stolen

Hmm, an ok read, but there wasn't much to it. Had a rather young feel to it.

I'm not feeling the love for this on the forum!

Howey, Hugh - Wool

I gave up on this one, but I may go back to it.

I've heard mixed reviews of this one...

Johnson, Maureen - 13 Little Blue Envelopes

I haven't read this one, but I liked her writing in The Name of the Star

Another one to look up!

Kagawa, Julie - The Eternity Cure

This is the 2nd one, isn't it? I haven't yet gotten around to it.

Yes, I really liked the first book but have tried this one and not keen, will try again though and was in a low mojo period.

King, Stephen - 11:22:63

King, Stephen - Needful Things

King, Stephen - The Stand

King, Stephen - Under The Dome

Did you say you haven't read King yet? 11:22:63 isn't really horror, but I think it's a very good piece of writing. I like The Stand, but it's not my favourite of his - it's a long one. Needful Things I can't remember, and Under The Dome I couldn't get into.

Nope, no King yet, will try at least one of them in the first half of the year, if only to keep my Dad quiet! I've also downloaded Under The Dome to my Kobo, when it was on a £1.49 deal, so hopefully I won't be as intimidated by it's size!

Terry, Teri - Fractured

Already mentioned in my thread - go buy Slated!

Tis in my Amazon basket, tut tut! :D

Truss, Lynne - Eats, Shoots and Leaves

Read ages ago, I think I liked it.

Think this is in my sons room, must try and unbury it!

Walton, Jo - Among Others

This is a slow read, but worth it - just make sure you're in the right 'mood' for a slower read.

Will do, thanks. :)

Yancey, Rick - The 5th Wave

Excellent read, another in my top 10.

:)

I feel your pain with the dog waking you up in the morning. Our two kittens wake us up wanting to be fed at 5.50am - on the dot! - every single day without fail. I realised recently that this might be because we got them in June, when I was getting up at 6.50am for work, and the clocks have gone back since then but their body clocks have stayed the same! :giggle2:

Thanks Laura. I gave The Magic Toyshop a 5/5 and then The Bloody Chamber and other stories a 1/5 so I'm a little nervous about this one! :)

Ah, that's interesting . . . I haven't read The Magic Toyshop (though I'll keep my eye out for it since you rated it so highly!), but I quite enjoyed The Bloody Chamber, though some stories were much better than others. I'd probably rate Nights at the Circus at the about the same as TBC (3/5), though I'd probably have enjoyed it more if I hadn't been reading it under time pressures for uni. There are some pretty dark moments in it which are great, though.

My favourite Carter novel is Wise Children - very highly recommended. :)

You have some good ones on your TBR list (Stephen King's The Stand is my absolute favorite), and we share a few as well. :boogie: I hope to read some more Steinbeck too, in 2014 after enjoying The Grapes of Wrath so much.

Hopefully Jojo will be a bit more settled this year, and give you more reading time. I'm trying to think when Reuben settled down.....I think it's probably around the one-year-old mark. I'd imagine the agility training will wear her out a bit? Reuben is up at the same time every morning as well - he's a very reliable alarm-clock if mine every broke. :giggle:

Happy reading for 2014!

Happy reading for 2014!

I think I may try The Stand first of the King's. or maybe Under The Dome, as that storyline appeals.  Of the Steinbeck's I will probably read OMAM first as I enjoyed that when I read it for school.

I don't remember Obi being an early riser but then I had a 2 year old daughter and soon after had another baby so probably didn't sleep much anyway! :D  On school and football days it's not an issue, but I would dearly love a lie in on a Sunday! Still, I am away with a friend tomorrow for one night so will make the most of that, what's betting I can't sleep!  :banghead:  :P

Happy New Year Ulrika :)

Some great books on your TBR chaliepud happy reading!

Thanks James, I am at present very optimistic of a successful year of reading, happy new year to you and your lovely family. :)
