Hi Kidsmum,

It's great to see we have common books on our TBR piles. I haven't read any Orhan Pamuk books before also, but coming from a Turkish background I have heard he writes well. Plus I guess its a bonus that he also won the Nobel prize a few years back  Once I get around to reading it I will let you know my thoughts

For years I have been meaning to read Jane Eyre however never got around to it. Hopefully I'll get around to reading it this year :gl:

Hi Vixen :)

The very best of luck with your reading in 2014 :)

I love looking at TBR lists .. it's like peeking at people's bookshelves .. I try to do that if I'm walking past a house with its curtains open :blush2:

You've got some great reads ahead of you (in particular the Jane Austen's, Jane Eyre, Life of Pi, The Help and The Perks of being a Wallflower) Happy Reading!

There are some really good ones on your TBR pile.

Some I have really enjoyed and recommend are:

Life of Pi by Yann Martel

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

The Time Travellers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger

The Help by Kathryn Stockett

That's great to hear. I'm definitely looking forward to reading each and every one of them

Hi Vixen a nice manageable TBR pile there! You should steam through that. I have read and enjoyed all the Austens on your list and Jane Eyre too. Life Of Pi is still on my own TBR. Happy reading.

Thought I'd start small and then add more as I go. I will buy heaps more in the coming year so there should be a fair amount added later on/

I loved Austens Pride and Prejudice, even watch the movie adaption of it (BBC version) thousands of times! Thought I'd go onto reading a few more by Austen.

Hi Vixen. :) I hope you'll enjoy Jane Eyre - I loved it, and look forward to hearing what you think. I'll also be interested to hear your thoughts on Alif the Unseen, as it's been on my wishlist for a while. :)

It looks like Jane Eyre is a must read, I have had alot of people recommend it to me.

When I read the blurb for Alif the Unseen I said to myslef I have to read this! I will let you know how I go

Yes Jane Austen has never disappointed me. Except slightly when Anne Hathaway played her. Even though I like Anne Hathaway.

Jane Eyre is great. Silly me, I put off reading it for years. But it is such a meaty story. Not pansy or girly at all. Watch the movie with Mia whatsername too

Hi vixen,

I've got a number of books on my TBR pile that are the same as yours so shall be stopping by regularly :D

I really enjoyed Gone Girl and particularly The Time Traveler's Wife! Just don't watch the film of the latter, it annoyed me after reading the book!

Happy reading in 2014.

Happy reading in 2014 Vixen. I have a few books on my TBR that you have on yours so it will be good to see what you think of them as the year goes on. I haven't read any on your TBR but that's not that unusual for me :D

I have read a different Orhan Pamuk book in the past, Snow, and I found it really enjoyable.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just finished reading Resat Nuri Guntekin's book Falling Leaves. This was a relatively short book with a fast paced storyline which I liked. I give this book a 3/5.

Some information on the author and the book is below (sourced from Good Reads):

Resat Nuri Guntekin (1889-1956) published Falling Leaves (Yaprak Dokumu) in 1930. It's a tragicomic novel of bourgeois life in a rapidly changing Istanbul. The novel magnificently and richly depicts Turkish family and work life under stresses caused by the rapid introduction of modern and European norms. The hero, Master Ali Riza, an idealistic ex civil servant who translates business documents for the firm of Goldleaf Limited, leaves the firm out of profound moral scruples, and this leads to extreme financial stresses on his family.
