dtrpath27
This is a book about books. Although not the main setting, Wales is often mentioned, as is Crimea, Swindon, cheese and toast. Always toast. It takes place mostly in the 80's, but not our 80's. GSD. This hint is brought to you by Goliath.
dtrpath27
I'm rather sad no one knows. When I joined this site I was assured there were plenty ffans of this series around here. Hmm...what day is it? Wednesday? Maybe we just need to wait until tomorrow. Other characters include Miss Havisham, Emperor Zhark and Mycroft. Mycroft is responsible for such wonderful inventions as the ovinator and the entroposcope. This series is also home to the greatest library in literary history. chesilbeach
Sorry, I've been away from the forum for a few days, but I definitely know the author!!! It's Jasper Fforde Lots of fans on here, so I'm sure someone else will come up with the correct book shortly. I won't try, as I won't have time to do another quote myself, unfortunately. dtrpath27
Yay!!! There is another Fforde ffan on here! Now it's only a matter of time... I really thought I picked one that a lot of people would get. Oops!
CuriousGeorgette
Sorry no - I haven't read any of his books

Athena
Jasper Fforde was going to be my guess while I was reading the previous page but then Chesil guessed it before me! I haven't read the books yet, I own two of them.
dtrpath27
It's the first line from one of his Thursday Next books, The First Among Sequels. Anyway...sorry about that! His books are very original and clever with quite a cult following. If I described it, it would probably sound weird, but it's so funny and great, but basically, it takes place in a reality where one can actually read oneself into books. He is the same person who writes The Last Dragonslayer series, but the Thursday Next series is not a children's series. Anyway...let's call it good. Chesil said she didn't have time to do one, so Athena, do you want to go next? As long as you promise to read The Eyre Affair, that is. Athena
I'm not sure what quote to pick either . How many people are playing this game?
dtrpath27
It doesn't seem like many...maybe five? Someone else might know better as I just joined in. Give it a go! Any old quote will do. We can always ask for hints. I think it will be more fun with more people.
frankie
I never would've guessed I've only read one book by him, The Eyre Affair, but I loved it and I have almost all of the other TN books on my TBR Will definitely read more of his books! Athena, don't be shy You've played this before, right? Edit: When I posted the above, I hadn't read all the previous posts with the hints, because it was already revealed what the book was. But I just went back to read all of the post and now that I knew the author and book in question, I have to say, those were some fine clues! I'm sure more people would've guessed right, had they only read this thread in time, dtrpath27 Edited March 27, 2014 by frankie

frankie
Thank you very much, sir! My favorite hint was the Goliath one. That made me chuckle. I have to say I wouldn't have picked up the Goliath hint. Mycroft sounded more familiar, and the Wednesday - tomorrow -clue, duh, I can't believe it went right over my head  It was right there!!!
