Read-a-thon - (2013-2015)

The statistician is coming out in me today … I read for 52 minutes this morning which equates to 44 pages of Celia.  It's 404 pages long, so I think this could take me the weekend to read, but it's definitely not a book to skim, so I shall savour the pages as they go by, as it's wonderful so far.

Second session of 50 minutes and another 44 pages read. :D  Book accompanied by tea and toast:

44 pages... I see a pattern here! :D

Ah, toast! I've been having major toast cravings lately what with poppyshake always talking about it, and now you, too...!:D

I went and did my grocery shopping for the holidays, prepared meat for all my meals in the next few days and did the dishes. Now I can just enjoy the long, long weekend and do whatever the heck I want :smile2: I.e., read!  :readingtwo:

Sorry, but toast is an essential part of the weekend for me! :D

It's good to have certain standards :D Don't worry: when I finally graduate, the first thing I'm going to buy myself is a toaster :D And an mp3-player. Or maybe a smart phone. Oooh and a saddle chair. Oh shut up! TOASTER!!!

Sounds like you've sorted yourself out nicely … let the reading begin  :readingtwo:  :readingtwo:  :readingtwo:

It's funny how one's been waiting for this moment, when all the reading can get started for reals. And then one gets stuck on the forum. And I want to play a word game on Facebook :D

I hope you have a great long weekend doing the things you want to do :).

Ah :D! It's one of the reasons I started doing the read-a-thon, because I found that while I wanted to read, I often got distracted by other things. So I thought of the concept where I'd just try to read for a while, without hopefully too many distractions. It has worked for me some of the time (during the read-a-thons), though at other read-a-thons I still get distracted, or I choose to do something that isn't reading (like now, when I'm behind the computer).

I've read all 121 pages of Do van Ranst - Dina 8: Gedoe, Gedonder en een Wonder (purple omnibus is now finished) and have just started Ann M. Martin - De BabySitters Club 30: Inge en Betty Worden Zussen which is a re-read. So far I haven't read a whole lot then today in terms of pages, but I have been enjoying my reading and also doing some other things.

Yeah, it would be good if I had some serious reading time over the weekend!

So the plan is to read Reasons to Stay Alive, with snippets of Winnie the Pooh for lighter philosophical reading!!  ;)

I'm done for the day. I've forgotten to record how long I've been reading this afternoon, but I've read 164 pages of Celia in total. It's a character study and not much plot, so not my usual sort of book, but it's absorbing and an interesting period of history for women, and I'm finding it fascinating.

Agreed: toast porn!! I love it when there are small puddles of butter... Puddles that haven't quite melted... Oh yummy... And toast is good with tea... Oh man...

Glad you're enjoying the book Karen, and great progress! :)

Yesterday I read 92 pages of The Night Guest, thus finishing the novel, and then I started reading Scent of a Killer by Kevin Lewis, I read 82 pages of that.

I'm glad you had a lot of fun reading :), and you made some great progress.

Thanks :)!

On the first (unofficial) day of the read-a-thon long weekend, I've read 113 pages of 'Sea Glass' by Anita Shreve. I'm really enjoying this book so far.

Great progress, I'm glad you're enjoying the book so far :). I don't own this one but I have a few other books by the same author on my TBR, so I'm interested to hear what you think of it when you've finished it.

Great progress, I'm glad you're enjoying your reading :) (you are, right? I haven't yet browsed any other threads so I don't know if you've commented anywhere else about the books. I will edit this post if needed).

We've all had a pretty good unofficial start to the read-a-thon    I'm carrying on with Celia today.

I hope you enjoy more of the book, happy reading today (to all of you) :readingtwo:!

Here's my progress from yesterday:

Thursday 02-04-2015

1h 20 mins, 121 pages, Do van Ranst - Dina 8: Gedoe, Gedonder en een Wonder

45 mins, 123 pages, Ann M. Martin - De BabySitters Club 30: Inge en Betty Worden Zussen (re-read)

1h, 131 pages, Ann M. Martin - The BabySitter's Club 31; Dawn's Wicked Stepsister (re-read)

Total: 3h 5 mins, 375 pages

It's not brilliant progress in terms of hours, compared with some read-a-thon days in the past, but I'm glad I managed to read for a while :). I had a lot of fun reading these three books, though at times I got distracted (hence why I clocked for example 10 mins while I only progressed one page in a book..). But I had fun :).

Today I have a lot of things to do, so I don't know how much I'll be able to read, but hopefully I'll be able to read for a little while at least.

Have a look in the What's Up in April? thread, and you'll understand why.

Oh dear! :(  I love dogs, too, and if one wakes you up once by barking but you're able to go right back to sleep, it's fine, but when it's continuous, it's not cool :(  I hope they manage to train him to not go barky barky before normal hours!  :empathy:

I read maybe 150 today and over 200 yesterday, so not bad considering I'm on vacation. I finished House Rules which I only just started on Monday, so pretty happy with that.

I will probably read a little tomorrow of 11/22/63 and maybe some of Yes Please which I have also started on kindle. Not bad :D
