what is your favorite true crime book?

Recommended Posts

Dunno, am only keen on the ones about famous , controversial cases really, eg Stefan Kizsko, Meredith Kercher case, Stephen Lawrence. I like to hear that the people doing the crime are caught and locked up..the latest I read was on the Kercher murder, quite good really.

The two that come to mind are Helter Skelter by Vincent Bugliosi and Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets by David Simon.

I have read quite a few true crime books but those two are the ones which stand out.

Oh, just remembered another one: Mindhunter by John Douglas. Really heavy stuff but so, so fascinating.

Helter Skelter's high on my list, too :) And I have those other two books on my wishlist.

I would also recommend A Stranger in the Family: A True Story of Murder, Madness, and Unconditional Love by Steven Naifeh and Gregory White Smith. It might not be the most well known case but it's such an interesting read. In the book we get to read how his family hadn't seen anything wrong with him during his childhood and adulthood and then we get the story from that person's own point-of-view. Boy, how the stories differ!

I would have to say The Stranger Beside Me by Ann Rule, which is about Ted Bundy. Very chilling!

What's your favorite book? :)

I second this along with Helter Skelter.

One that will always stick with me is The Nightstalker by Philip Carlo, despite the acts he committed he had actual groupies fawning over him!

Other good ones are:

Zodiac by Robert Graysmith

Green River Running Red by Ann Rule

Murder in Italy: Slaying of British Student, the American Girl and International Scandal (Meredith Kercher case) by Candace Dempsey

This one was very good, too!

I'm going to see if I already had the Zodiac book on my wishlist: if not, I'm adding it :) Thanks!

One you might want to check out is Monster of Florence, by Douglas Preston and Mario Spezi. The murders are almost a side light to the indictment of thecoul Italian justice system. The machinations of the Prosecutor give truth to the saying Truth is Stranger than fiction. I do not have the imagination to make up some of the preposterous theories he came up with.

Without a doubt, The Laser Man by Gellert Tamas.

About John Ausonius who shot 11 "immigrant looking people" in Sweden between 1991-1992 before he was caught. He was nicknamed The Laser Man because he used a rifle with laser pointer.

Not only is it true crime, but also a critical tale of the society. Aside from the police, the only public person John Ausonius talked to after his arrest was author Gellert Tamas.

The book became an amazing movie too with the wonderful David Dencik as John Ausonius. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0457586/
