How did you manage to get free glasses?  I only get my eyes tested free, but have to buy my glasses.

The UK has the NHS and I get free test and glasses because I'm still in full time education. It's only free glasses on certain priced ones and the more expensive you get a discount off. Mine acty only cost us a tenner but they were £99

Bree do let us know how the little one gets on in pre-school. It can be hard being away from Mummy for the first time but even the most upset kids calm down fairly quickly most of the time in my experience (I work in a nursery).

Not much happening here really. Had a week of late shifts and long shifts which was tiring. Shopping yeaterday for a jacket for a wedding I'm going to next weekend. Mother's Day today of course so me and Dad cooked dinner.

Ended up having to stay home today. Woke up feeling faint and my stomach was absolutely killing me! Suffice to say that after an extra 2-3 hours sleep it had disappeared. I kinda regret being ill (obviously I didn't choose to be) as I can't work on my essay or talk to my Business teacher today now for a couple of days. The pain of illness!

My mom's in her late 70's, Pontalba, and she's had 20/20 for a few years now.  This is after having to get glasses as a child and then moving into bi-focals and tri-focals!  Now she sees perfectly and only needs cheaters to read.  Crazy how some things can actually improve with time - usually it's the other way around!

I had a busy weekend of shopping and getting little things done at home.  My good friend's mom was in town so we went out to eat on Saturday night.

I hope everyone has a good week ahead of them! :D

pontalba and lucybird, thank you :)

How amazing that you work at a Nursery lucybird - I don't know how you manage :)

(I have to dig deep into dormant sources of energy and creativity to keep up with my one)

Got my Mum to order me a new calculator. I'm using the Sharp brand one which doen't compare to the Casio's. Hence why I can't put my answers in surd form. The Casio's do it for you instantly so maybe this time I will do better in my maths exams. :D

Peacefield, did your mother have cataract surgery?  Or her eyes just improved?

Nope, she hasn't had it.  Her eye doc can't figure it out because he thinks she eventually will need the surgery, but for now she has miracle eyes I guess!

I only hope that happens to me.  I got glasses in the 6th grade and haven't looked back.

Someone stole my credit card number, and charged a couple of large charges to it.  I caught it last night and phoned the CC company and they blocked my card.  Went to the bank today and signed the papers for dispute of those charges.  Now I have to wait for a new number and card to come in the mail.  grrrrrrr!

Funny the way I caught it though.  Macy's sent me an email thanking me for shopping with them.  :icon_eek:  Macy's had my email address because I'd ordered something from them in February.  Anyhow, as soon as I received the thank you for the purchase I'd NOT MADE,  :motz:  I went on the bank website and saw the fraudulant charges. more grrrrrrr!  :Tantrum:

That's horrible Pontalba. I have had that same happen to me but fortunately my card was only used to purchase a World of Warcraft subscription. I suspect that they were hoping I wouldn't notice a small purchase like that but I rarely use my credit card so it stood out a mile.

Thanks muggle.

I think that is an unusual situation, usually they go for the big bucks.  Glad yours turned out ok. :)

That's terrible pontalba :(. I hope you can get it sorted soon.

Thanks, I think it'll be ok, the bank took it all in stride when I went in to sign the papers.  I've dealt with them for many decades and they know me.

I was mad as a hatter at first I can tell you!  But, it could have been much worse.

After the bank yesterday morning we drove over to the Gulf Coast.  Bay St. Louis is a beautiful small, old community on the Mississippi Gulf Coast that was devestated during Hurricane Katrina.  It has rebounded beautifully!  Great restaurants, and a fantastic independent book store, Bay Books.  We had great weather, and it is a beautiful drive.

Down the coast toward Biloxi there must be a dozen Casinos, but neither of us gamble, but have walked through....fascinating!  Some of their restaurants are quite good.

Ouch, I'd be really freaked if that happened to me. Glad you managed to freeze your card!

Tonight should be fun. Going to be spending the evening in my room helping boyfriend with his apprenticeship work and I can just tell my Mum will act weird about her being left alone in the living room.

That's horrible Pontabla - at least you found out quickly though and will hopefully get your money back my reporting it quickly.

We have had a lovely couple of days of spring sunshine here and I hope it lasts as tomorrow is my day off. I plan a long lie in followed by a trip to Sainsburys for the weekly shop and a huge veggie breakfast and then an afternoon of reading up at the National Trust centre with a nice walk down the White Cliff and back.

Jeez pontalba, that's bloody awful!! Thank goodness Macy's sent that note, though, so you could freeze the card and start sorting the whole thing out. Bloody hell :censored:

I know, and the weird thing is I'd had a strange feeling I should check the bank website all weekend, just didn't get to it.   Yean, good on Macy's!

Not only freaked, but mad as the devil!

Awww, poor Mum.  :D  Hope it went ok.   What is his apprenticeship?

They've taken it off the card, and I think it will stay off.  They know me and my habits, so there wasn't any question about the veracity of my claim.  Thankfully.

Sainburys sounds like a neat place.

Is that the famous White Cliffs of Dover I've heard of?

I'd hope so, but wonder.  My friend at the bank said she sees this type of thing all day long!  Gadzooks, what a world.

No, it's not Dover (I don't live anywhere near there) but part of the Box Hill National Trust estate near where I live. They call it the White Cliff even though it's not near the sea, as it's a very steep wooded area, made of chalk. The box trees, from where Box Hill takes its name grow along its slopes. It's basically the path that climbs up the hill from the main road at the bottom of the hill - those who saw the Olympic Cycling Races on TV last summer will have probably seen parts of it. It's not really a long walk, but it is quite steep for those of less than average fitness, and a good place to sit and watch the world go by when the sun's out - sadly it isn't today, so I think most of my reading will be done on the settee !

Not a good weekend for me - I have been the only housekeeper on duty all weekend (normal here unfortunately as well as in my old job, not that they told me this at the interview), expected to clean 55 rooms plus another 15 bathrooms. Today I found one bathroom floor flooded, which no one bothered to tell me about, plus one sink blocked up and then I found that a resident had used his rubbish bin as a toilet. If that wasn't all bad enough, I then discovered that they have changed the date of some training we all have to do from April to next week, without bothering to ask if I can do the overtime or even let me know. I am tempted to tell them I have made plans and can't do it. Not surprisingly I have a pounding headache and ache all over. If every weekend is going to be like this I will have to think very carefully as to whether I want to work Monday to Friday like everyone else seems to.

It's Paddy's Day today. Aka "National Irish Alcoholism Day". Or, if you're anything BUT Irish, "Patty's Day", the use of which is almost enough to drive the Irish to not drink. The same people who call it Patty's are the first people to mention leprechauns and the fact that they are Irish. They're not. They do get one thing right though, they also drink themselves silly.

In case you can't tell, I hate the Irish drinking culture and am generally ashamed of how the Irish, and the Irish-"celebrating" world conducts itself on this day.

I'm staying indoors.
