busy91
My goal is undecided. I think I'll bring it down to 60, I'm returning to school in June. I'll have to read my text books and stuff. As far as genres I will still read whatever catches my eye. However, my goal for 2013 will be to read more new authors. busy91
Newly added goal Looking at my list thus far, I see a lot of non-fiction there. I promised myself I would read much more fiction this year. I think my ratio will be <=25% non-fiction and >=75% fiction.
Inver
Did you enjoy Mrs Lincoln's Dressmaker....I have that on wishlist/to buy.
busy91
I did like the book. I would give it 4 out of 5 stars. But maybe it is more interesting to me since I'm from the States. But still a good look at the era. Edited February 20, 2013 by busy91
busy91
I am failing miserably at my #2 goal. I promised myself I would read much more fiction this year.I think my ratio will be <=25% non-fiction and >=75% fiction. I've read 17 fiction books and 24 non fiction books. That is less than 50% fiction books read thus far. Urgh. I've still got the rest of the year to try to bring this around.
chaliepud
Why worry about it? What's important is that you are enjoying what you are reading and you clearly are with those figures. If you put too much pressure on yourself you'll likely end up reading much less.
busy91
You're right of course. I do enjoy reading my non-fiction. I suppose I just wanted to branch out and read more things that would allow me to use my imagination more. But, it doesn't seem so. ...I just put 2 more nf books in my library queue. I am hopeless!! julie
Busy You are doing terrific as far as number of books read .Wow -- As for the nonfiction, you sound a lot like me . I tend towards nonfiction most of the time now. I occasionally toss in a fiction ,but it has to be something serious in which you learn something by reading it . The older I get, the more that most fiction seems like lot of "fluff" or a waste of time . Not badmouthing anyone who enjoys it. As long as people read, that's what counts . We all read for different reasons . If I read fiction, it has to have a serious story line behind it, or something in which you learn more about life or relationships or families . I see you have a Wally Lamb on your list of haven't read yet- you are in for a treat with him ! One of my favorites . I tried reading the Mrs Tom Thumb, but too much fluff for my taste . I hope you like it though . I agree with Chalie , if you put too much pressure on yourself to read something out of the norm ,then you might not enjoy reading as much . Life's too short to waste it reading books you wouldn't normally pick .

busy91
Thanks Frankie. Once school starts up again, the reading will slow, so I am glad I got to my goal early.
frankie
When is your school starting then? I have no idea how the system works in the States I bet you can squeeze in a few more books before that... busy91
School for me starts on 3 september. I should be able to squeeze at least one more in before then. And then maybe one big book, or 2 smaller books a month. We will see.
busy91
I will probably top out around 85 books for this year. My goal was 60 so I am satisfied. I will keep it at 60 for next year. I don't have much time to read when school is in session, but I will try to finish the challenge for 2014.
