Goals for the year:

Read "The Making of Modern Britain" by Andrew Marr. (Starting this book was a goal for last year which I only managed very late in December) There are four parts to the book so I'm aiming for one part per month, so I should be done by May.

  • part 1
  • part 2
  • part 3
  • part 4

Read a couple of my pre-2009 books.

  • one
  • two

Read all my 2012 books.

Read one of my shakespeare plays.

OK - Thread Open :)

So I've started the year with three books on the go:

A Wrinkle in Time - Madeleine L'Engle - I'm really enjoying this one so far, though I must say it's a little strange. I'm looking forward to finding out what's really going on as I'm really not sure yet. (I hope things do come clear)

The Making of Modern Britain - Andrew Marr - This is really good so far. I'm not too far in but it's written in a very readable and lively style that makes it very engaging.

Is It Just Me? - Miranda Hart (audio) - This is ok so far. To be honest I was a little disappointed at first because I thought I'd love it, and actually began to worry I'd find it annoying, but now I've settled into the style and accepted it for what it is I am liking it and finding it quite amusing in places.

Some great books there Andrea, notably A Monster Calls, The Shadow of the Wind, The Book Thief, Me Before You, The Time Traveller's Wife and a few from my TBR pile and wish list too, there are a fair few of us wanting to read Rebecca sometime soon!

Have a fantastic 2013 Andrea, reading and otherwise!:readingtwo::smile:

Some wonderful familiar titles on your list Andrea - have a lovely 2013 :)

I noticed a list of Audio books too - and am curious about them.

How does the experience compare to reading?

Do you ever feel the urge to go back and "read" them, if you've liked the story?

Thanks both.

Do you know, I've never re-listened to an audio-book but I do plan to re-listen to Great Expectations read by Hugh Laurie, and possibly Northanger Abbey too. I loved hearing To Kill A Mockingbird but I think if I re-experienced that then I'd want to actually read it in book form (possibly with a re-listen after I'd done that). I think I would probably want to re-listen to the Sherlock Holmes stories one day too (once I've forgotten them enough) just because they are so entertaining.

I generally listen to audio books in the car. I love the experience of having a book to get back to every time I make a car journey. It even makes driving to work feel like something to look forward to!

Andrea

It looks as if we are in the same club :those who have yet to read The Book Thief.

I have had it for a long time, but haven't attempted it yet. Everyone says how good it is,so I plan on tackling it sometime soon.

Good luck in 2013 with your reading .

I finished A Wrinkle in Time last night. It was very enjoyable. It did start a little slow and seemed strange at first, but once the story got going it was good.

Next I'd like to get to the end of part 1 of The Making of Modern Britain. After that I'm thinking I might read The Thoughts and Happenings of Wilfred Price.

Glad you enjoyed it! It is a bit strange. I've always wanted a dog named Fortinbras :D
