Hello,

Being a HUGE fan of robert neill's 'mist over pendle', i was wondering if anyone had read kate mulhollands 'A cry of Innocence' ? Apparently it's a diferent take on the pendle witches but no less interesting ( fiction). I would appreciate your thoughts

Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum

Even though I was born, brought up and still live a few miles from Pendle Hill, I've never read any of the books about the Pendle witches :)

For some reason, it's just never interested me......sooooooo tell me why you enjoyed the book 'Mist Over Pendle' so much? What's the fascination?

Maybe I should think about reading them some day :)

thank you for the welcome :D,

You know, i don't really know why i'm so interested in the pendle witches. I first read about them in a large format book called ' Witchcraft and demonolgy' oooh years ago. Ever since i've been fascinated by them. I've never been to the area although i'd love too one day. In 1977 there was a bbc drama called 'The Witches of Pendle' anyone seen that? , and that really increased my interest even more ( terrific drama, wish it was available again).

You really should read 'mist over pendle' especially if you live in the area ( lucky thing!), The characters seem to come alive and i love it. I read it every year about october time.

Pop over to amazon and have a read of the review by a margaret of clitheroe there about the book. She's spot on! It's a terrific review. Wonder if she's a member here.

i read and enjoyed Mist over Pendle when i was at Uni in Preston, it was interesting as i knew alot of the places mentioned in the book

Yes, if i knew the area personally my enjoyment would be complete.

I live in the area too. I have just finished reading The Mist Over Pendle. You can see my thoughts on my reading list. Maybe I should take a look at this book too.

Wow, so many from east lancs :D. Yes i read your thread Icecream ( i've actually forgotten what you said now as i'm typing this lol) oh well, i know you enjoyed it and yes i think this other book would be an interesting read as well. Think it's out of print but you can by it from abebooks online

I think that Derek Achora is a lying, cheating. He is proved to have lied and I think what he does to people when he is claiming to be talking to their loved ones is disgusting....

Hmm ,think it depends on whether you believe in an afterlife or not. I personally do, but yes there are many cases of 'mediums' who claim to have this ability....only to find out that their frauds. If DA has been proven to be lying then thats a bloody disgrace. I've never really known what to make of this guy as he seems genuine to me.....but having said that, in reference to 'pendle hell' most haunted live.....like i said before, he was TOO accurate with the characters involved. All the main people involved in 1612 he got correct. It was embarrassing. Needless to say i don't watch the programme anymore.

The reason he is no longer on most haunted is because Kerian O'Kieff made up several names in one show and fed them to Derek only for Derek to claim possession from one totally made up person. It's quite well documented on Wiki and the like

I've read a few refernce books on the Pendle Witches but never looked into it passed that. O's keeps saying he would love to go to Pendle Hill at halloween but I won't. It's just too scary.

I may just take a look into those books as they are something I would like to read about and love fictionalised versions too.

Thanks for that HCG.

Welcome to the forum, I'm Gyre, pleased to meet you.

I have not read any of the books you have mentioned. I did see 'Most Haunted Live' at Pendle Hill, and slightly off topic but I saw Derek Acorah live and I just did not take to him.

Ahem, don't you mean Gyre, Paula

I didn't see MH at Pendle Hill but I did see the return night. Still quite spooky even if you discount Derek Akora

Oops its Gyre again:smile2: I enjoyed it but it did freak me out, it was quite spooky up there. x
