geebs
I normally have a lot on a go. Like often few work related, then some just for entertainment and then maybe study stuff. So easily 5+ .
chrysalis_stage
I prefer to read one book at a time, so I can get lost in the world more and can read another sooner but I have a bad habit like many of you here have already mentioned of reading more than one at a time. Im liking reading two at the moment because you can switch when mood changes but at times I have had over 4 which isn't right imo. I also start reading one, get slightly bored or buy a new book in the mean time and give into temptation and start the new one and so forget the origninal story and end up with many books half read that need to be re-read out of no fault on the books part, all my fault and my impatience. Rawr
I think i have a condition where i most certainly CANNOT read just one at a time. I'm very good at multi-tasking i've found. I don't understand how i keep the plots and everything in my head, but when i return to a book, i'm usually just straightaway back into that world and timeframe, it's cool. But, if i had written the story, i'd be annoyed if my reader were to just show impatience like that!
chrysalis_stage
But, if i had written the story, i'd be annoyed if my reader were to just show impatience like that! Yes, exactly! I feel guilty that I'm not giving the book enough attention, like I'm cheating lol
cuddly
Mostly I read one book at a time. Sometimes I read like .. two, but never more than that. I wouldn't get along I suppose.
famar
Hi, I usually have two books that I read at a time...depending on my mood...
Kenny
I usaly try to keep it to one or two at a time.
Sally_80
I try and keep it down, but usually about 4 or 5!!!
Nollaig
At the moment, about 3 I'm trying to get Waiting completed tonight, so I can focus on one ebook (classics) and one actual novel at a time.
williamsonyy
Just finished one, going onto another...
MDR124
Should I change my previous state, having started another non-fiction book and being at my fourth?
chrysalis_stage
I try to stick to a small number of 2 max but lately I have 5ish on the go, 2 I have started and put to one side for now and 1 almost finished and 2 just started. The temptation is too much!
Rawr
I've come to the conclusion that it's impossible for me to read just one book at a time, it's hopeless.
Ahsilet
I voted for three or more. I can read three books at once and have done it many times (being a literature I have to), but it is hard to handle. I am more comfortable with one or two.
Nightwish
I've voted for just the one book. Every time I try to read two books I usually get into one of them so much that I forget about the other one
Lucybird
I know what you mean Nightwish, I have been re-reading Mercy for months, it sits by my bed waiting for Sunday (when my Dad brings me a cup of tea in bed so I read it while I'm drinking it)
kala_way
3 - 5, never more than 6 because then I start getting confused. I usually have an audio book at work, an audio book in my car, a book open on my home computer, one book in my purse, and one on my bedside table. My reading is location driven
Lucybird
I think I would get confused with more than
Nightwish
Now that my brother has got me reading Lord of the Rings I wouldn't dare try to read anything else, I already find I'm re-reading bits of it without the help of a second book! MissWhitlock
only one for me because I can't concentrate when I'm thinking about how the other book would end. I can only read more than one when I'm re-reading one of them or both.
busy91
Now that my brother has got me reading Lord of the Rings I wouldn't dare try to read anything else, I already find I'm re-reading bits of it without the help of a second book! OK well books like that, I could only read it and no other. After all, it is so great, I wouldn't want my attention divided.
DLG
Just one for me. I also seem to read more in the summer too. When the suns out, I just like to sit in the garden and read.
Ben Mines
One, but at the moment I am reading 5. Ulysses with: The New Bloomsday Book: A Guide Through Ulysses; Ulysses Annotated; James Joyce's Ulysses: A Study; and Ulysses: Edited with an Introduction and Notes by Jeri Johnson. I quickly learnt that if you are going to make this odyssey, it is best to be armed to the teeth.
RachelH
I'm really bad for reading far too many books at once but once I've got past about 100 - 150 pages in one book i tend to read it alone until it's finished. At the moment i have four on the go although I think really i've given up on On The Road.
