  1. It'll be 2016 soon, so here is the 2016 thread for read-a-thons. The read-a-thons generally always take place (unless we communally decide otherwise) on the first Friday, Saturday and Sunday that all fall in the same month. The dates for 2016 are (Friday, Saturday, Sunday): January: 1st, 2nd, 3rd February: 5th, 6th, 7th March: 4th, 5th, 6th April: 1st, 2nd, 3rd May: 6th, 7th, 8th June: 3rd, 4th, 5th July: 1st, 2nd, 3rd August: 5th, 6th, 7th September: 2nd, 3rd, 4th October: 7th, 8th, 9th November: 4th, 5th, 6th December: 2nd, 3rd, 4th The aim is to read a lot during these three days. There are no specific themes, you can read whichever book(s) you like. We use this thread to discuss our plans for and progress during the read-a-thons. On occasion the dates don't suit anyone, in that case we decide alltogether when would be the best time for everyone. In the past it's happened that the read-a-thon was held a week earlier or a week later. Usually though we have it on the dates posted above. Happy reading in 2016 !
  2. I came across this idea on YouTube. A read-a-thon (a marathon for books) is where, for 24 hours, several days or a week you try to do a lot of reading, with a group of people. I'm posting this because I was wondering if anyone else would be interested in doing a read-a-thon for a day, two days or a week. I did a search for readathon but only three topics came up and in them it doesn't seem like a read-a-thon happened with forum members. I thought this could be an interesting idea, often I would like to do more reading but I end up doing other things instead. Normally I need some time after each book to process the story, I don't know if it would work for me. It may be a nice distraction though, from stress etc. (I couldn't do a marathon in ie. watching tv shows, films or video games. Too much (sound) input would overwhelm me (it might happen during the readathon, too, tbh)) I'm by no means suggesting you give up important things, you should do work, spend time with your partner, children, family, pets and not neglect anything important. I couldn't do with much less sleep than I sleep atm, so I won't be staying up late or anything like that (you can if you want to, of course). It's not the goal who reads the most books or pages (though it would be fun to post statistics at the end, but I am a statistics nut ). Books read can be TBR, re-reads, ebooks, paperbooks, fiction, non-fiction, any book you like, as long as you want to read it. Personally I plan to read both paperbooks and Kindle books as well as TBR and maybe a reread to make things slightly easier. I'd suggest picking books of various lengths and genres, ie. shorter and longer books and from different genres or playing in different time periods or locations, to make things more interesting and varied. Of course if you only like one genre then be sure to read that. I didn't have a specific time/date(s) in my mind for this, it could be soon or a few months away (of course I'm not available all the time, but that holds for everyone). During the read-a-thon (whether it'd be for a day, two or several days, or a week) we could post about our progress (though I realise we could also just do this in the What are you reading topic). Anyway, would anyone be interested in a thing like this? If not, I'll do it on my own sometime perhaps, thought I'd ask my favourite booklovers though to see if anyone'd be interested . EDIT: For the next read-a-thons we have agreed that it take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday each month, on the dates that it's the first Friday of the month.
  3. As posted here in the 'Readathon' thread, there is a BookTube-A-Thon this week, from Monday August 3rd to Sunday August 9th 2015. The Official YouTube Channel The Official Twitter Account The challenges: 1. Read a book with blue on the cover 2. Read a book by an author who shares the same first letter of your last name 3. Read someone else's favourite book 4. Read the last book you acquired 5. Finish a book without letting go of it 6. Read a book you really want to read 7. Read seven books You are allowed to combine challenges. For example, if you have a book with blue on the cover that's also the last book you acquired, then that counts for those two challenges. The challenge to read 7 books doesn't mean to read 7 extra books outside of the ones you might already read for the other challenges, though if you want it to mean that you could certainly try . This BookTube-A-Thon coincides with our monthly read-a-thon that takes place on Friday 7th August - Sunday 9th August and since there were a couple of people interested in doing these challenges, I'm making this thread so we can chat about our progress regarding this specific read-a-thon and its challenges. I hope no one in the BookTube world, if they were to find this thread, is offended that we are having this discussion here and not through videos on YouTube. I don't want to make such videos, I mainly use my YouTube channels to post videos of our animals on occasion and to share them with my friends, and to comment on the YouTube videos of BookTubers I like.
