  1. Yay indeed. I never get tired of opening book parcels.
  2. Freaky Days - Amanda M Lee Free atm.
  3. I`ve ordered it for my Dad now. Currently reading - Fran Pickering`s The Bullet Train Murder ( a fun cosy mystery series set in Japan - hoping she writes more books. ).
  4. New Midsomer Murders tonight - a Jane Austen themed one. And - new Lucifer ( S2 premiere ) tomorrow and new Inspector Montalbano next Saturday !
  5. Testimony of Light looks fascinating - thanks for the heads-up.
  6. Fingers crossed, etc. Trying to catch up with reviews is soul destroying.
  7. Ooh, yummy new books. Great covers.
  8. I read the third Carole B Shmurak book, Death at Hilliard High ( v. good ) and started on Cherry Blossom Murder - Fran Pickering ( 5 chapters in - it`s whodunnit set in Japan ; I`m liking it, but maybe not as much Rei Shimura series by Sujata Massey. So, 3 books and a bit for the May read-a-thon.
  9. Ooh, I want to get Less at some point; I loved his The Impossible Lives of Greta Wells.
  10. I`m read-a-thoning too ; I`ve read two Carole B Shmurak books - Dead Mistress, Death by Committee - and 60% of a British Library Crime Classic anthology, Blood on the Tracks ( railway mysteries ).
  11. Eek. I hope everything goes well. Will send you good thoughts next week.
  12. Yep, I even looked at her website - click - but she seems to be working on other things. It`s a shame - while I didn`t rave about the two books, it`s a series which I think could`ve picked up as it went on ; there was enough there to like. Congrats on the Discworld books ! It`s a treat to get a cheap hardback anyway, I think.
  13. ^^ Yes ! Yes !! Helene Hanff is rtuly wonderful. Hope you enjoy the rest of her books ( I think my favourite was the one about `Q` . ).
  14. Deep State - up to ep 5 now, very good. Salamander ( Belgian cop conspiracy thriller ) S2 - two eps to go. Started Lifeline, looks good so far - Spanish thriller. Rebecka Martinsson - Based on the Asa Larsson books, mysteries set in Kiruna, the North of Sweden - really liked it, hope they make more eps. Homeland - 2 eps behind - liking the season now.
  15. A Breath of Witchy Air - Amanda M Lee The Winchester Witches are back for another mystery. Yay ! It's Winter and a beer delivery truck crashes in Hemlock Grove, leading Bay to cover the event for the paper, and Aunt Tillie to rush to the scene to sample the free beer. While taking photos, Bay falls over something in the snow...and the something turns out to be a body. There's an intriguing mystery and lots of funny lines, in a particularly good Witchy mystery with some interesting developments for Bay.
  16. I gave up on the 2nd Gourmet detective book in the end ; while I liked listening to the narrator, the book really wasn`t going anywhere and I got fed up of the way the women kept being described. And then the author made allusions to Fu Manchu when he was talking about a Chinese character. I`ll stick to the films ; they`re fluff but entertaining fluff. I`m now halfway through the 12th Wicked Witches of the Midwest book, a Breath of Witchy Air ( Amanda M Lee ) - enjoying it so far.
  17. The Disappearance of Mavis Woodstock - Rosalind Burgess & Patricia Obermeier Neuman Book 1 in the excellent Val & Kit mystery series - free atm.
  18. April 11: Auto-Buy Scifi and Fantasy Authors Jasper Fforde Jim Butcher ( the Dresden Files books ) Connie Willis Tanya Huff ( though, not all of her series - I prefer her urban fantasy ones )
  19. Savage Cut - Jo Dereske Ruby Crane returns home to a small town in Michigan with her daughter, who's recovering from a car accident. Living an isolated existence in a small family cabin in the woods, she gets drawn into a crime involving the local Forestry industry. A bit clunky at first, but the characters really shine and there's a clever mystery too.
  20. Congrats on the mojo return and the new books. I got a charity shop copy of Fangirl recently, looking forward to reading it ( eventually ). I wouldn`t have known about the book, if it hadn`t been mentioned on BCF.
  21. Ooh, I would love to have space for just one more bookcase. Never mind 10. I`m shying from considering a book cull, but I may have to release some books to new homes.
  22. Thanks Gaia and Madeleine. I`m 2 hrs into the second book now , and trying to ignore the descriptions of women which pop up.
