  1. Happy New Year to everyone! I'll be keeping my lists simple this year and trying to keep on top of them better than I did last year, hopefully the Round Robin challenge will help a little in that respect. As always I will endeavour to keep my TBR at a reasonable size (I really got carried away in 2017 which was great fun but silly considering how little time I have to read!) I do hope everyone has a great reading year along with being healthy, happy prosperous etc etc!
  2. Happy New Year Lara! You have a great mix of reads in both your read and tbr lists. I can highly recommend Orphan Train, An Invention of Wings and the Road, I hope you get to them this year.
  3. Happy New Year All! I finished Station Eleven yesterday, a bit early as it is part of the 2018 Round Robin challenge! Never mind! I’ll choose a new book to start today a bit later.
  4. Happy New Year to all my fellow BCF’ers! It could be a long night for me, my eldest two are clubbing/at parties so I need to be on call in case they need lifts!
  5. Ooooooh! Thanks for this (though Steve probably wouldn't agree! ) I'll have a good look through a bit later with a nice cuppa. I'm not sure if they are on these lists but I have already pre-ordered two for the end of January; Still Me by Jojo Moyes and The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah, these will make my TBR teeter on the brink of 200, its highest ever...I did swear it wouldn't go any higher...............................................
  6. Hey frankie! I challenge you to read Red Dog by Louis De Bernieres as I think you’ll love it! I was going to choose Human Traces but I do feel you need to WANT to read that one, so you’ll do it when you’re ready.
  7. Thanks Karen, I challenge you to read Pride and Prejudice, I received a copy for Christmas so am hoping to get around to it this year to see what I’ve been missing!
  8. Merry Christmas everyone! Hope you all got lots of lovely books!

  10. Yes, thank you Willoyd, I'm really looking forward to this.
  11. Hi Madeleine, I've visited your Library Thing pages and hopefully I have understood your system...I challenge you to read The Host by Stephenie Meyer. Personally I preferred it to the Twilight series - which I did like - so I hope you like it too. (The film is pretty good too!)
  12. Thanks L.P, that has been on my TBR for ages! I think frankie has recommended it in the past also.
  13. Congratulations on your new home, Virginia. It looks idyllic, wishing you many happy years there.
  14. Hi Little Pixie, I challenge you to read Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger, I much preferred this to The Time Traveller's Wife as it was so dark and twisty, plus it is partly set in Highgate Cemetery which I have always found morbidly interesting! I hope you like it!
  15. Thanks Alexi, I'll get to it as soon as I can, I have heard really good things about it so am pretty positive I will like it! My challenge to you is Time and Time Again by Ben Elton, one of my favourite reads of this year, very clever and absorbing...and even better, I couldn't hear his voice when I was reading it!!
  16. That'll keep you busy then! I've not heard of that podcast, that's one to look up. Alexa......
  17. Happy Christmas and end of the BCF year everyone! I always look forward to this post and getting some good recommendations for new reads. (Before I set myself a New Years resolution to not buy any new books in 2018! Ha! That normally lasts a month at most... So here we go!! I'll be back to do mine later. Favourite read? 19. Hi Claire, thank you for my challenge, I don't know why I haven't read any more Du Maurier since Rebecca and Jamaica Inn (which strangely I haven't logged as read on Goodreads - done now!) so this will remedy that. I challenge you to read To Serve Them All My Days by R.F. Delderfield, this has been on my wish list a while and set in an era I read a lot. I hope you like it.
  20. Hi everyone, I've not been on here much this year, but was just wondering if anyone has started the BCF Book Awards 2017 thread yet?
  21. Well, Willoyd, you have a lot of books and we don't have a lot in common in a literary sense that's for sure! I challenge you to read Tess of the D'Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy, it was one of my favourite classics as a teenager, I really must read it again and see if it holds the same attraction as a more mature woman! (I was close to saying Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast as it is my Dad's favourite book, but I couldn't get into it as it was so very, very descriptive).
  22. Thanks Willoyd! That's one I have been meaning to read, I'm just a little nervous it won't measure up to TofW but I suppose there is only one way to find out!
  23. My top five were: Everyone Brave is Forgiven by Chris Cleave Mischling by Affinity Konar The Boy on the Bridge by M.R, Carey Time and Time Again - Ben Elton Midwives - Chris Bohjalian
  24. Thanks for organising...this should be fun! I don't use Library Thing and can't face typing out my TBR so hopefully my Goodreads TBR will suffice? https://www.goodreads.com/review/list/5264617-hayley-godwin?shelf=tbr-shelf
