  1. Hello there! I don't know of any sites but I do know that you can get free ebooks on amazon!
  2. I bought these as individual books, I find they look better on the library shelf in this format, rather than having them all in the one volume. (The stories are absolutely identical, don't worry Patrick)
  3. I used to read a lot as a teenager, my parents joked around telling me to slow down with the reading as they were constantly in bookshops choosing my next book to read! I think I read the most as a teenager, I still read now but don't dedicate near enough time to it, which is a shame.
  4. Amongst my childhood favourites!
  5. Thanks Amelie, I didn't get it in the end, as I too saw the bad reviews on the internet, thank goodness I checked! I bought him the video game instead and bought us a Kindle - we share it!
  6. Deborah I look at the reviews mostly before buying an e-book. What I like about the self-published books is that a lot of the times the authors pleasantly surprise you... I have read books by authors I have never heard of and they're brilliant! So don't hesitate to look around amazon and if something catches your eye buy it.. a lot of the e-books are really cheap so you don't have to be too careful when choosing
  7. EleanorT my son is obsessed with Horrid Henry!! He's read all the books multiple times and now wants to watch the movie. I've heard good reviews about it so I'm going to buy it for his birthday which is coming up next week
  8. I would like to read casual vacancy, but I think it's more because of the author... I'm curious... we're so used to her writing the Harry Potter books that I'm interested to see how she does when writing something different

    Hello!

Hey Eleanor! Welcome to the forum I haven't been here long but i love it
  10. Whenever someone asks me about a book that made me cry the first one that comes to mind every single time is a book I read when I was younger: Chinese Cinderella. I've read a lot of sad books since but for some reason this one will always remain vivid in my memory
  11. I'm not very consistent but I'd say on average I read 1 book every two weeks. I used to read a lot more but with two children ages 4 and 8 it's hard to find time nowadays
  12. Tax avoidance schemes are a concern to every government and a lot of them are trying to minimise them as much as they can, but I don't think they're doing enough. Amazon cannot be blamed for avoiding tax, it's perfectly legal to have your headquarters in countries where you are not taxed heavily. A lot of companies do this and a lot of wealthy people do as well. I haven't stopped buying things off amazon because of this. Amazon is convenient, the variety is huge and I always get good quality products. Not everyone has the time to go and order books from book stores and the internet has catered for the busy lifestyle we now live in.
  13. Hello Michelle My daughter is 8 too, and my love for books has definitely rubbed off on her. She really enjoys reading, which I think is great, so I don't worry about the difficulty of the books she reads. I'm very happy that she likes going through a variety of genres and I'm confident she'll get into more "mature" books as she gets older. I bought her a kindle for her birthday because I find a lot of great children books on amazon that have been self published... I believe it gives her more options to choose from It's important for me that she's reading high quality books but also that she's enjoying herself.
  14. hahaha I'm surprised at how many people steal books... even "accidentally" I don't think I have, but when I was younger I always used to forget to return books back to the library. I would eventually, but it was long after their due date
  15. Hello there I'm new to this forum, but have been lurking around for a while... I think that the people who are being paid to review books are those with a strong influence in the book industry. I don't think any author would pay a randomer to review his/her book do you? I love reading books that have been suggested to me by people who havent been paid to review/promote it. Forums like these for example are excellent for getting honest reviews from people who are just like me and if I read an interesting book I'm always up for promoting it myself to others even if i'm not getting any compensation for it.
