  1. I suppose that I'm a combination of them, although the following two are probably most like me: The All-the-Timer/Compulsive/Voracious/Anything Goes Reader. Wherever you go, whatever you do, there's a book with you. It doesn't matter what it is, really, so long as there are pages with words on them, or an e-reader with words on it. We can't really suggested anything here because you took it with you to the grocery store or subway or library or laundromat or coffee shop, and you're standing in line or sitting down and reading it right now. The Cross-Under. You are a grown-up who reads Y.A. or kids books, or a kid who reads adult books, and there is a place for you in society, finally. Your existence acknowledged after so many years, you no longer have to feel shame at your questionable reading habits but can instead bask in the admiration of book blogs and feel a part of the vanguard. You are not ruled by categories; you are a free thinker. When you were in elementary school a librarian told you a book was "Too old for you." You read it anyway, and there's been no going back. - I should say that I'm almost 30 and totally love reading YA books.
  2. Have you read The Hunger Games trilogy? I read the first book in 2 days, then as soon as I had finished, I had to go off and download the next two books - I'm pretty sure that I read them within a couple of days! I can recommend The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood - great book about a dystopian future. Unfortunately, neither of them are set in Britain but there are both very good books.
  3. Happy anniversay Kell - you'll just have to delay the celebrations until you're both off and then you can have a lovely day together! I don't really have anything going on in August - we've already had this year's holiday so I'm now just counting down the days until I turn 29 and a bit in November and then my son's second birthday in December, then Xmas!
  4. I think my choices would have to be The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood and The Hobbit by J R R Tolkien. Both are brilliant books - and The Hobbit is long enough to keep me going for a wee while.
  5. I totally agree with Kell - all of those child abuse and animal stories are just something that I want to avoid like the plague. Ever since I had my baby boy, I just can't read anything like that. It tends to be romance and chick lit books that I really actively avoid - I've read one or two and they just seem to be the same tired old storyline over and over again. Maybe I'm wrong but I just can't bring myself to read them!
  6. Hi Frankie I've read the first in Kathy Reichs' "Bones" series (can't for the life of me think what it's called) - we have the next book somewhere in the one of the many bookcases....I just have to find it. Re Cornwell - I just tried reading The Scarpetta Factor but after three chapters, I just stopped reading. I just couldn't get into it as it just felt like every character has been infected with a miserable virus I'll look at your recommedations though - thanks
  7. I'm not sure how to add the YouTube video but my current favourite song is Resistance by Muse.
  8. Good afternoon everyone My name’s Vicki and I’m a book addict...! I’ve just recently stumbled across this amazing forum and decided to join so that I can share my love of books with others – I think I’m starting to drive my family and friends crazy by constantly telling them about the latest book that I’ve discovered. I’m 29 and married with a wonderful little 18 month old son who has inherited his mummy’s love of books. We go to the library every week – in fact, the head librarian now recognises my son and has given him a couple of free books! I’ll quite happily give most books a chance although my favourite genre is crime. A few of my favourite authors are: Lee Child Jasper Fforde Margaret Atwood Patricia Cornwell Ngaio Marsh Suzanne Collins M.C. Beaton I’m really looking forward to getting to know everyone and discovering some wonderful new books. Vicki x
