  1. You're a lot closer than me. Yesterday I discovered there is slight damage to my house. It's an old ex-Housing NZ house, so I'm worried there may be more we can't see. I read today that the US and Aussie Navies are also sending ships. The relief effort has been amazing.
  2. Where are you Poppy? I'm in Palmy North and it was huge here. Hate to think what it felt like in Kaikoura.
  3. I mostly read in bed. If I'm working night shift I read at work too. When summer finally gets here I'll sometimes read on my sofa in the sun.
  4. I've just about finished this. I'm finding it a good read. Some bits are a bit descriptive but Steinbeck's writing is so good, they don't drag.
  5. Welcome to the forum Kimberley.
  6. I finally read a Caroline Graham. I've always loved the show, but for some reason never even looked at the books. I read The Ghost in the Machine, it was the first one I found at my library. It was a pretty good read, and I'll look for more.
  7. i just finished two books: The Ghost in the Machine, Caroline Graham, and The Midwife's Confession, Diane Chamberlain.
  8. Finished Never Say Die by Tess Gerritsen last night. My reserve copy of The Midwife's Confession by Diane Chamberlain came in on Friday, and I'm already halfway through it.
  9. He was an amazing actor. RIP.
  10. Hi everyone. I'm going to try and post more regularly on here. I just finished I've Got You Under my Skin by Mary Higgins Clark. An Ok read. Now reading an Agatha Christie, Miss Marple's Final Cases.
  11. I loved those. I read them over and over. I also liked Judy Blume and Paula Danziger. They were definitely my favourites when I was younger.
  12. I haven't had a chance to look at my library Onion Budgie, or to ask my workmate. I'm going to the library tomorrow I hope so I'll have a look then.
  13. I'm never sure about series books written by someone other than the original author. I might give this a go if I spot it in the library, but I don't think I'm going to buy it at this stage.
  14. I'll have a look at that one Onion Budgie. Thanks for looking guys.
  15. My supervisor at work recommended this book last night, but he couldn't remember the title. It's about a woman who is in a coma in East Germany during communism. She wakes up from the coma after reunification. But her kids are worried if they tell her she'll get a shock and go back into a coma again. So they pretend everything is still like it was before reunification. Thanks.
  16. Just saw this. http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-36367221?ocid=global_bbccom_email_24052016_technology
  17. I've always been interested in psychology, although I don't think as much as you are. I have a couple of psychology books on my shelf but haven't read them yet. I'm really interested in crime and the psychological reasons behind serial killers and things like that.

    Non Fiction

I read both. I like fiction for relaxing before I go to sleep, and if I need to wait for a doctor or something I always carry a fiction book. I'm also a huge history fan and have a lot of history books that I read if I get a chance during the day.
  19. I don't think I have 'cheated', but I wish I had with Gone Girl. I only kept reading to find out if what I thought would happen did. I was right, and should have skipped to the end.
  20. I finished I Know This Much is True by Wally Lamb. I think I enjoyed it, although it did seem to drag a bit sometimes, especially the bits about his grandfather.
  21. It's not compulsory to learn any languages here. Some schools make it compulsory, but mine didn't. I didn't learn any in high school and wish I had. There was the option to learn French, German and Latin and maybe Mandarin, I can't remember. I can speak a little Maori (self taught) but nowhere near fluent. My kids school this year made it compulsory for the new students to learn a language (13 year olds). One of the options is sign language, which I think is cool, and something I want to learn one day.
  22. That's such a great tribute to him. Ronnie Corbett was so talented. My kids and I can spend hours watching 'The Two Ronnies' on youtube.
