  1. I finished Defectors by Joseph Kanon. I didn't like this as much as the others I've read by him. Now reading The Aftermath by Rhidian Brook.
  2. Me, too. I always wonder if they know who the killer is when they start writing, or does it all come into place as they write. What other crime writers do you like? My fave is Ian Rankin, but I also like Ann Cleeves, Lynda La Plante and I've been reading a lot of Scandinavian crime lately: Jo Nesbo, Camilla Lackberg, Henning Mankell.
  3. I read a lot of crime and thrillers too - Val McDermid is one of my favourite authors. I often wonder what sort of mind comes up with the murders/crimes in these books. They've definitely got incredible imaginations. And the research must take them ages.
  4. Finished a New Zealand book The Imaginary Lives of James Poneke by Tina Makereti, and now reading Hidden Depths by Ann Cleeves.
  5. I finished The Hotel New Hampshire by John Irving this morning. Will have to wait until I get home from work to decide what's next.
  6. I've just about finished Munich by Robert Harris. It's the first book by him I've read and I'm really enjoying it. Can't wait to read more of his books.
  7. I'll have to check that book out Brian. I've got into Scandinavian crime recently, and like you I think of Iceland in that category even though I know it isn't.
  8. I like the Vera series too Madeleine. Have you read any of her Shetland series. I think that's better than Vera.
  9. I finished Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie and I'm now reading Buried Angels by Camilla Lackberg.
  10. I've never looked at reviews when deciding whether to read a book. Everyone's got different tastes and I figure I might like something others don't. The only reviews I read are the ones people post on here, and If a book sounds interesting I'll add it to my wish list.
  11. Started Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie.
  12. Finished The Redeemer by Jo Nesbo and now reading Death at La Fenice by Donna Leon.
  13. We had another massive thunderstorm on Christmas Day. Lost power for a few hours. Luckily we could still do the barbecue in the garage. Our street flooded as well. Since Christmas the weather has been good, so hope it stays that way now.
  14. A beautiful day today. Not too hot. A relief after the massive thunderstorms we've had every day for the last two weeks. A couple of days the thunder was rumbling non-stop for over an hour. We've had flooding here twice in the last two weeks.
  15. Should finish A Surfeit of Lampreys by Ngaio Marsh tonight. I really enjoyed this and would recommend it to anyone who likes Agatha Christie.
  16. Finished Cocaine Blues by Kerry Greenwood last night.
  17. I finished The Woman Who Ran by Sam Baker last night and should finish Five by Ursula Archer tonight.
  18. I wish we'd got the series here in NZ. I'd love to see it.
  19. Has anyone read her latest The Punishment She Deserves. I read it a few months ago and loved it.
  20. Finished Silent Voices by Ann Cleeves. Another one in the Vera Stanhope series.
  21. It's starting to warm up here. 16C the last few days. A lot better than last week when we were lucky to get above 10C. Spring is definitely here. My hayfever is starting up again.
  22. I'm listening to Mythos at the moment Royalberry. It's very good, and Stephen Fry reading it is enjoyable to listen to.
  23. Finished The Memory Man by David Baldacci. First one of his I've read. I'll be checking out more of his books.
