  1. This isn't it, and I haven't read it, but Velocity by Dean Koontz has a storyline where someone has to choose who dies next - he gets a choice of two victims each time.

I remember reading the synopsis when it came out and thinking it sounded an interesting premise - it sounds similar to what you're looking for.

I feel so stupid right now, because I actually read that book. I really liked it! But it's not really about the crowd or the internet. Any more?

I actually also saw a movie called Untraceable. But I am looking for more, especially books.

  2. Alan Wake is a story-driven action game in the psychological thriller genre, developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Microsoft Game Studios, released for the Xbox 360 video game console in 2010 and Microsoft Windows in early 2012.

The plot follows bestselling thriller novel writer Alan Wake, as he uncovers the mystery behind his wife's disappearance while both are on vacation in the small town of Bright Falls in the U.S. state of Washington, where he experiences blackouts and visions of characters and ideas from his latest novel, which he cannot remember writing, coming to life. Darkness plays a significant role in the game, and the core combat gameplay of Alan Wake consists of "fighting with light". In its pacing and structure, Alan Wake is similar to a thriller television series, with episodes that include plot twists and cliffhangers. The game itself consists of six episodes, and the fiction is continued by two special episodes, titled "The Signal" and "The Writer", that were made available as downloadable content (DLC) within the same year of the game's release. Together, they make the first season of a possibly longer story. Additionally, a six-episode live-action web series called Bright Falls acts as a prequel to the game, and a number of related books also expand upon the Alan Wake story.

I think the story of the game was pretty interesting, are there any books (except for the Alan Wake books, of course) that have writers as main characters and writing is explored as part of the story?

  3. I'm basically asking if there is any fiction (probably thriller or science fiction) where a murderer decides based on some kind of vote or poll who he kills, or they can suggest victims etc. I remember seeing a movie where the killer had a website the police could not take down, the first victim was an animal. It doesn't have to be the public making a choice between two victims, fiction where the killer poses a yes or no choice is also an answer (not to the victim, of course). If you know of any fiction with a theme like this, please answer this question! It would be a tremendous help.
