  1. If the beef mince is getting a little 'tired' it will smell but it should still be edible until it is going green! We tend to buy local meat rather than supermarket stuff and I have to say that apart from the fact you know what you are getting it doesn't smell bad either.
  2. Not sure what 'warn status' means though?

Aha ok that's great thank you for the help. That also explains why I couldn't see anyone else's!

    3. Talisman

I've got one of them too and was wondering what it meant - I wasn't aware that I had misbehaved though, no one has said anything !

You misunderstand, June. Everyone has a warn bar - yours is inactive as you have had no warnings. As I said above, it's something we don't often use and if you had 'misbehaved' you would have been told. :)

    Book Prices

I agree with Talisman, an awful lot of work goes into writing books so when you think about it 3, 4, 5, 6.99 or more is not a lot of money especially when you think about the enjoyment you have had reading the book!
  5. I would love to read a good Sci Fi book as I haven't found one for a long time as Sci Fantasy seems to have taken over. Anyone recommend a book or two? Good old spaceships, lasers, acventure etc you know the kind of thing!
  6. don't forget that cheap doesn't always mean good!
  7. Thank you Super Bookworm for your replies I very much appreciate your help and comments on both the ebook pricing and my Kindle questions! Thank you Kell for your answer about the new Kindle. Thinking about Super Bookworms comments and experience with the different Kindles and your own experience with the latest £89 one I'll opt for this one as I only need it to read books and not do anything else. I guess the next step will be buying an iPad and dump the laptop!
  8. Ah ok thanks for the reply Bookworm
  9. Thank you for the post It's not the book but I've had a look and I am going to read it!
  10. Can you only download books on Amazon to a Kindle? If you have a Sony eReader or the Kobo does this mean you can't use the Amazon bookstore? David J Tye
  11. I don't think many would-be authors and new authors have the resources to have their work professionally edited and that is a big issue here. It is very important that any author edits and re-edits their work to ensure mistakes are taken out. Like most of us here I have read many so called 'professionally' published books bought from the likes of Waterstones etc, BUT alas more and more of these have grammatical and spelling mistakes so it seems the publishers standards are somewhat lower than they used to be. There are equally a lot of dross publications published and on the book shelves which have done absolutely nothing for the traditional book market and is another reason why so many people are turning away from that and onto self-published books. Of course the traditional publishing route is far more established so self-publishing has a long way to go but will there come a time when you won't know the difference between self-published and 'professionally' published books? Yes I think so. David J Tye
  12. I don't have a Kindle yet so which is the best one. I know there is a colour version but apart from being relatively expensive it is also a lot heavier than the others so does this spoilt it? The latest one for £89 seems like a good option as it is very light weight but still with a decent size screen but has anyone got one and if so how do they get on with it? Finally, I love reading before I go to sleep so do these Kindles have a backlight or can you only read them during the day? David J Tye
  13. Self publishing is a good thing. It is opening up the book market to all those who wish to write a book but have never had the opportunity too because they can't find a publisher or keep getting rejected by publishers. Until self publishing became a reality the publishing market was completely controlled by publishers who, in their wisdom have in effect controlled what we read. One author wrote a book which was rejected three hundred times by publishers. The author finally went the self publishing route a few years ago and has had great success. I do understand that the quality may not always be up to standard but self publishing authors won't normally be able to afford external editing input. Overall I feel anything that helps people achieve their goals is certainly a good thing. David J Tye
  14. Losing My Virginity: The Autobiography, Sir Richard Branson. This is a great read, especially for those who wish to emulate his successes in some way! David J Tye
  15. Yes you may not get a lot for the books, but on the other hand if there is a gem or too then you never know what you might get. At the end of the day, it all depends on the quality of the books. David J Tye
