I read 'Makeda' over the holidays and wholeheartedly enjoyed it.
It was written by the ex-wife of West Indian cricketer Sir Gary Sobers. Apparently she's a best-selling author, having published a couple of nutrition books a while back.
Anyway, Makeda is of course historical fiction, based on the putative relationship between the Queen of Ethiopia and King Solomon.
Brilliantly written, really, particularly for a first-time novelist. Plenty of romance, obviously, but it also features some pretty gritty sequences — slave uprisings, sexual assaults, etc.
Anyone else read this? Haven't seen any reviews anywhere, other than those on Amazon.
