  1. I'm back from my holiday and I finished 'Little Women' by Louisa May Alcott. This was one of my favourite books, but having re-read it, it's not as good as I remembered it to be. It's a charming story, but I didn't like some of the archaic thoughts on women, although I suppose this is a book of its time. Then, having realized that I was 1 book from my 30 book challenge this year, I decided to re-read 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' by Lewis Carroll. I read this in about an hour, because it's only 149 pages, but I really enjoyed it. Some of it makes absolutely no sense at all, but I enjoyed it because it's such a fun read. I'm tempted to start another book, but, as I don't like starting the new year in the middle of a book, then I'll wait for a few days. I hope you've had a great reading year and here's to more great reads in 2019!
  2. So maybe, if I can get over the technical language, it might be worth another go? I definitely can see this is well written, so maybe it is.
  3. This looks amazing! I hope you have a lovely time in Disneyland!
  4. I haven't done an update in a while! I DNFed 'Master and Commander' by Patrick 'O'Brien, not because I didn't think the writing was very good, but I couldn't understand the vocabulary associated with ships, which was included quite a lot. Now I'm re-reading one of my favourite books 'Little Women' by Louisa May Alcott. It's getting me in the Christmas mood. I'm going away for a few days tomorrow, so I want to wish you all
  5. Totally agree! Looking forward to more read-a-thons in 2019
  6. Thanks! Well technically one and a half books as I started' The House on Cold Hill' before the read-a-thon. However, I read more than I thought!
  7. I don't mind when we have the next read-a-thon. I'll try and participate as much as possible. Here's what I read overall this weekend. 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens 116 pages Finished 'The House on Cold Hill' by Peter James 257 pages Finished 'Master and Commander' by Patrick O'Brian 13 Pages Total Pages Read (from Thursday to Sunday): 386 :
  8. Yes, I really enjoyed it! I've nearly finished 'The House on Cold Hill' too.
  9. You too! So far I've read 'A Christmas Carol' and 40 pages of 'The House on Cold Hill' by Peter James. I hope to finish this and start another book by the end of the read-a-thon.
  10. It's not a problem! At least I got a bit of reading done.
  11. I only remembered that the read-a-thon starts today instead of tomorrow, about an hour ago! I'm about halfway through 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens, so I guess that's about 40 pages or so.
  12. Last week I went to the cinema to watch 'Bohemian Rhapsody' I went into the cinema, expecting to be disappointed because of all of the hype, but I thought it was a very good film.
  13. Today I finished 'The Virgin's Lover' by Philippa Gregory and I really enjoyed it. I love the double crossing and scheming that goes on in Philippa Gregory's historical novels! It brings historical textbooks to life. Now I'm going to read 'The House of Cold Hill' by Peter James. My friend lent me this book, because she knows that I liked watching 'The Haunting of Hill House' and this looks similar.
  14. Ohh this sounds like a good read! So far, I've only got 'The Complete Christmas books and Stories' by Charles Dickens although, that might take me all weekend to finish!
  15. Just finished 'The Virgin's Lover' by Philippa Gregory and I really enjoyed it. I don't really know why it took me so long to finish it (it is over 400 pages though, which might explain it) but I love the double crossing and scheming that goes on in Philippa Gregory's historical novels! It brings historical textbooks to life. Now I'm going to read 'The House of Cold Hill' by Peter James. My friend lent me this book, because she knows that I liked watching 'The Haunting of Hill House' and this looks similar.
