  1. While "The Foremost Good Fortune" by Susan Conley left a lot hanging. I really found it a little boring, but I finished the book just the same skipping a lot of the pages. I was just interested if she ever got healed.
  2. I finished reading autobiography of Doug Chapman, "Where Mercy Has Shown Mercy Has Given" I forgot who of you talked about it but I really enjoyed the book. I once watched his show and got curious then as to this kind of job. Now I can really say and believe in polarities. thanks a lot
  3. I also recommend self help books like Automatic Wealth by Michael Masterson. THis is mostly finance topics and how you could help yourself to have automatic wealth. I like this book because it helped me define how to organize my long term goals, medium, and short term goals. It puts more sense into organizing a step by step approach for an ordinary people to handle finances. Other authors would try to just elaborate and discuss more on the importance and need for saving, but thats it. Other authors earn their money because they talk about money but they never make money other than giving lectures.
  4. Hi Booknutt. If you love conversations with God, why don't you try reading books written by saints themselves, youll be more amazed. I recommend those written by St. Theresa of Avila. This is not religion, and I am not converting you into from wherever you are right now. Just look at them as literary materials.
  5. I love my kindle, I only got the one with wifi and I loooooooooooveeeee it. Because I get to read books right away in one hand. I don't have to carry bulky and heavy books and I don't need bookshelves. And most of all, I don't have to use eyeglasses I could make the words bigger. Ever since I had my kindle I could read more books at a time. Thanks kindle.
  6. Reading is not enough to change us. When you read is just makes us literate, comprehensive, and makes our brain works, thats it. Self help books are a guide, to take action is another stage. RIght now I am reading books about finance, budgeting, saving. Is this going to help me if I just read? I have to act and do it.
  7. I don't think its a new or big thing in literature. It is man's avenue in his search for meaning and purpose in life. As man gets "partially enlightened" that there's these things about spirits, soul, energy, power that is in him, he starts writing books and also englightening readers. But all of them are just eye opening in my opinion, to have your eyes stayed open is another stage for this insatiable appetite for meaning. These books are both easy and hard to read. dense and unfathomable. shallow and deep. It will depend on the stage of your desire for meaning.

@Janet (staff) - I accidentally opened these review on the book A Thousand Splendid Suns, I read the book and I wanted to put my review on it but I couldn't open the site again. Some members send me email recommending books which I wanted to reply back and I am having trouble going back to their site. Thanks
  9. I read the book the first time it came out of print and I love the book.I didn't watch the movie because I know they will make it commercially attractive and lose all good points of the story. I love it because I do meditation and I feel that I was with her especially in the second portion. Not so much in the first portion of the book. I like the portion when she went to India and she started meditation. How meditation transformed her life personally was not part of the whole book. I know there's so much more that she could share probably next time, if there will be. And that would be very boring if she goes into details.

@Kazee, could you tell me more about "The Black Hole " who is the author? Thanx
  12. Writing books while in prison? I think its fine. The next question is, as all writers' concern is who is going to read it, is it going to make money etc. Anybody could write anywhere, any subject, any place.
  13. Lately I really enjoy reading biograhies of people who really got rich, like Warren Buffet, Robert and Kim Kiyosaki, Napoleon Hill. I want to get inside their minds.

When I was younger I like reading fiction especially love stories,, well girls stuff, mystery. Now though that doesn't interest me so much. I like reading autobiographies, self help books, inspirational stories, other books that uplift my humanity. Historical books like Roots, (to me they're more history) appealed much to me. I like non fiction because I know they say the real things, real life, real people, unlike non fiction although they're based on people and events but weaved in the mind of the writer.
  15. I am reading books by Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Suze Orman, Napoleon Hill, the Bible, Joel Osteen. I don't think books will change us. If ever, they'll just open our eyes a little bit. Change the way you look at things and things change (Wayne Dyer). I have read self help books but I forgot about them now. I am into meditation for more than a decade and I haven't change that much, but things around me have changed a lot. Internally, I see myself more in control, starting everyday a new day and changing the way to look at things.
