  1. I've had a lot of days of recently so, I decided to tackle my rather ominous TBR pile. Finished The Grapes of Wrath and Lord of the Flies, and I've just started To the Lighthouse, which so far, has proved to be an interesting purchase.
  2. Upon finishing William Golding's, Lord of the Flies, I found knowledge notes on the book online and was content. If I hadn't, I would probably have reread it. Also, had I not planned on reading a tonne of books whilst on holiday, 1983 would definately have been read anew.
  3. Ok so I was just about to start reading A Tale of Two Cities and after reading the first few paragraphs I had the dictionary out. First finding the meanings of the words then trying to work out how they applied to the passage. I began to wonder about writing fiction itself. Do you think that a great book should have all these pit stops? I admire authors such as Steinbeck and Orwell as they seem to have the ability to use this language when they feel necessary and yet there writing remains accesible. Do you think language has regressed? I'm trying to see the point in reading such classics but just now it seems like a bit of a chore and I wouldn't be able to skip over the words as I'm kind of obsessive in that way. Basically I'm looking someone to drag me out of my slovenly ways with a logical arguement showing how the pro's outway the con's. Thanks in advance if you took the time to read that. Even I became bored listening to myself complain.
  4. Watched sunset boulevard. Thought Gloria Swanson was incredible in it. To watch her act out someone she could have turned into had she not adapted well to the implementation of sound made it all the more enjoyable.
  5. If you get the chance, Doctor Faustus by Marlowe is a compelling watch.
