  1. For anyone who hasn't read any of his books, I'd recommend The Crow Road or Espedair Street as starting points (I've not read many of his Culture books I'm afraid). The Wasp Factory is his first and the first I read by him but it's perhaps a little too dark for some and might put new readers off. The Bridge is also great (once you're into him). I'd perhaps avoid A Song of Stone, The Business and Canal Dreams as none of these are his best works. Still, he was a great author. He will be sorely missed. http://chrishallamworldview.wordpress.com/2013/06/25/iain-banks-where-to-start/
  2. Definitely The Quarry by Iain Banks. Excellent.
  3. I really enjoyed it. Having seen the film (as well as the less famous film Valmont with Colin Firth), it was an easy read. Valmont is a great character. Someone should write a prequel about his early years!
  4. Has anyone read A Very Britidh Coup by Chris Mullin? I've read it twice and would enjoy discussing it with someone. A Very British Coup, I meant!
  5. Wow! That sounds incredibly fast to me. Wouldn't you lose something going at that speed though?
  6. I think he's a brilliant author but most people don't seem to have heard of him. Not read his latest yet. Especially liked Don't Tell Me The Truth About Love. Anyone else a fan?
  7. I've read all of these! Lord of the Flies: A very readable classic. An essential read for anyone. The Crucible and An Inspector Calls. Both plays rather than books so better to watch them ideally (not that this is always possible!) I particulary like An Inspector Calls which is a thriller with a political edge. The Warden: Just re-read this. The first of the Barchester Chronicles. I really like it. A good find! Enjoy them.
  8. Started reading The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters. Great so far. Not read any of her books before.
  9. I seem to average one book a week, regardless of length, over time. I try not to race through things. I'm not much of a one for re-reading so try to absorb everything. There's nothing worse than coming away feeling like you've not read a book properly.
