  1. I wish I could read that much! When its not busy-season at work and I find books that keep me interested I can do maybe 2 a month or more depending how much time I have. Over the summer when I wasn't working very much I did more like one or more a week. Now that I work full time and everything its way less (ive been reading Under The Dome since, well I don't even remember when I bought it - maybe Jan or Feb.) When does everyone read? Is there a trick to this?
  2. I have just recently gotten around to reading Under the Dome. I quit A Discovery of Witches, some day I will get back to it. Has anyone read Discovery of Witches that say its a must get back to? I also just bought a Kindle touch, after much time of being against it and vowing to only read real books. But I caved as Under the Dome is heavy, and hard to lug around, and I'll be taking a trip soon and I do not want to carry it on the plane! I already miss the real book (minus the pain in the but size of UTD) but I think what I miss most about not reading a real book is the bookmark. I love a) picking out a bookmark to use from the ones I've collected throughout my life, and then I love watching the bookmark get deeper and deeper into the pages as I progress. I don't think it will be an all-the-time thing for me and this Kindle, but it will be mighty convenient while traveling. I even got a case for it that has a light - I am always complaining about reading in the car at night and the boyfriend not wanting the lights in the car to be on or when we are in the ADK mountains and when it gets too dark, its annoying to try to hold a flashlight up. Does anyone have any suggestions for good intense vacation read for the beach??
  3. I have not had time to read in a really long time! Life has been so busy - but what I have been reading here and there (including today) is Under The Dome by Stephen King. I'm almost a quarter of the way through it.. not sure if I can make it the whole way.
  4. I just recently read The Help and absolutely loved it from the first page. Someone recommended it and then I saw it at a store, and decided to read the first page of the first chapter.. and when I didn't want to stop I decided I should probably buy it.. and I am so glad I did. I didn't think it was my cup of tea just from the description but once I started reading it I could not put it down.
  5. I've just gotten back from my yearly trip up to the ADK mountains. I finished reading The Bride Collector by Ted Dekker while was up there and also read The Help by kathryn stockett and Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult and Lightning by Dean Koontz. The Bride Collector was ok probably a 3/5 stars. I'm not running off to read anything else by Dekker right away, though I probably will if I get around to it. The Help was a really neat book, I really enjoyed reading it. I'd say it deserves 4.75/5 stars. It's intense and thought provoking. Plain Truth was good. 4/5 stars. I couldn't put it down but it wasn't my favorite book by Jodi either. Lighting was great. 4.5/5. I loved the story of Laura from her birth to the end of the book. I found my self reading, and looking at how far I had left to go, and glad that I had so much left to read. I didn't want it to end until it got to be too sify for me at the end. I had stopped reading sookie. I started From Dead to Worse and bought the remaining books I need to read.. but just haven't found my self back to them. I'm reading A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness and plan on getting Under the Dome by Stephen King - I heard it was really good has anyone read it?
  6. This is already happening to one school near me. In september this year each kid will be issued an Ipad. I suppose heavy books will be eliminated. I don't even need an Ipad.. not sure that a third grader needs one either.
  7. I finished The Taking the other day. I really enjoyed reading it. I'd give it a 4/5 stars. I'd never read a book about aliens so it was kind of a cool side track. I'm wondering what I should read next. Should I continue with the Dean Koontz books, go back to Sookie or try something entirely new? Decisions Decisions.
  8. I'd say they get better. I got stuck on the first one too but once I got through it and on to the next one, I couldn't stop and before I realized I had gotten through 7 of them in a hurry!
  9. So far I've only read Whispers and part of The Taking. And I've loved everything about them (so far). I'm glad I stumbled across this topic as I was wondering if I'd love all of his books - seeing that he has so many out I start wondering if he doesn't get carried away with just getting books out and the quality falls. I'll have to try a few of the ones that have made previous top lists. Whispers creeped me out without really noticing until my dog would bark or something and I'd juuuump. The Taking has me afraid to be alone!
  10. I think I really enjoyed Robert P. as Jacob. I do agree with Witherspoon being a little too old.. and not as spunky as I picture Marlena to be.
  11. I cried reading - The Book Thief, My Sisters Keeper & I think while reading Pack up the moon as well.
  12. haha too funny. Yea maybe I'll do what Kylie does and break it up, maybe I'll forget all the big details! I'm reading The Taking, and only about quarter of the way through it, but I'm a little weirded out being alone in the house today! It is also raining...
  13. My dad reads a lot. But my love of reading was progressional. Starting probably six years ago to maybe two or three a summer while I wasn't in school to now I read constantly at every opportunity.
  14. So of your book collections how many of those have you read vs. TBR?
  15. I use library thing. I like it because I used to try to remember every book I've ready now I don't have to. Also it's good for a quick review when I'm wondering about a book.
  16. I have just started buying used books. Its not as bad as I thought it was going to be! If it's a random book someone told me to read I look for it used first instead of buying it new. If it's something I KNOW I want to read and will want nice I still tend to buy it new. It's kind of fun if I have time to kill, sitting on the floor going through shelves of un organized used books.
  17. After Water For Elephants I started reading the Sookie Stackhouse Novels and got up to All Together Dead. In between them, while I was in Florida I read Amityville Horror which was probably a 3.5/5. Then I was on another trip I didn't have the next Sookie book but I did happen to bring along Whispers by Dean Koontz. Which was surprisingly really hard to put down! It did end up creeping me out quite a bit - which I didn't notice until I'd be reading it and my dog would bark next to me and I'd jump out of my chair.. or I wouldn't notice my boyfriend and he'd touch me or say something and I'd jump real bad again! And if I was reading before bed I was a little afraid to go to the bathroom. These little creepy times I didn't expect at all! I wasn't scared reading the book but something inside me must have been! Now I'm reading The Taking by Dean Koontz and so far its pretty good. I will return to the Sookie Stackhouse novels after The taking, but I was getting really annoyed by Harris' need to continually remind me of things I already know in every single book. Who Bill is, Who Eric is, Who everyone I already know is. And random things like that - that anyone who has been reading the series already knows. She probably wanted to create it so you could start reading them at any book, but I get really annoyed by it. Does anyone else??
  18. Almost finished with Dead As A Doornail by Charlaine Harris. WIll probably finish it right now.
  19. I try to read the reviews before hand. I like to use the ones from LibraryThing because there are usually a lot for every book I'm looking into. But sometimes the books I've read and like get a bad rating. So I look for basic plot hints too and make sure it's something I'm interested in.
  20. What are techniques when looking through books at a used book store? I find that I have to be in a specific mood and have a lot of time if I want to look through mass quantities of books. Sometimes I will go back and look at a shelf I already looked at and find a book I've been looking for - but I didn't see it the first time. It makes me wonder how many good books I'm missing.
  21. I'm back to reading. I never finished Whispers - not sure why but I'll probably pick it up again this summer some time. I am currently reading Dead Until Dark and will probably read some of the books in this series. I need something that keeps my attention that makes me just want to keep reading more than anything else. I just finished Water for Elephants. It was pretty good. I give it 4/5 stars. it wasn't brilliant but it became something I couldn't put down. I saw the movie tonight - they changed a lot so beware if you're going to see it. I had to bite my tongue every time I wanted to lean over and tell my boyfriend that it didn't go like that!! but all in all the movie was good too. I'm pretty good at separating the movie and book.
  22. I finished Water for Elephants yesterday and went to see the movie tonight. I also started reading (where I left off before the semester started) Dead Until Dark - almost done with it. Not sure if I feel hooked on it though enough to get the next book. Perhaps thats because of the large gap between putting it down & picking it up.
  23. I saw the movie when I was probably 12 or so and it scared me more than anything - I only read the book later on to get a good thrill. I regretted it!
  24. Pet Sematary scared me when I was a teenager! Won't even look at the book or movies now. Just thinking about it/seeing the title gives me the creeps.
