  1. I have been in about four book shops just looking and looking, and still nothing. Annoyingly I can't remember the name of the characters or the supermarket chain. I hope eventually someone reads this thread and remembers it Thank you to all of you so far for your help and advice. WHSmith's, where I originally purchased it weren't really any help at all. I also located the store I bought it from at Heathrow and the guy who answered spoke very little English so got nowhere there either. ARGH.
  2. Lovesreading06: No, it's definitely not Mark Twain. I recall something about it being the authors first book or their first venture into that kind of writing. It was set in modern day too. Thank you for the link to that website, I am searching the Mark's to see if anything jogs my memory. Gemz: I really appreciate all your help with this. It'll become addictive
  3. I don't know, I was struggling with that when deciding where to post it on here. I have no idea what the outcome was going to be, whether it be murder, affairs? Oooh, I think they might have affairs? Things are hazily coming back.
  4. The owner of the big country house tries everything he can to stop the demolition and renovation of the little house by the supermarket chain new owner. He writes to wildlife organisations, local council, etc etc. The new owner of the smaller house has a limp. ha ha ha. It's so frustrating.
  5. Oh it's so frustrating. I usually never read fiction, so was so happy to have found a fiction book I could get in to. I stood in WHSmith's in Bournemouth for an hour on Saturday trying to find it. It's now become an obsession. Ha ha.
  6. I was at Heathrow on January 7th and purchased a book from one of the WHSmith stores, was thoroughly enjoying it and left the book in New York and now can't remember the name of it. I hope you can help? It is about a man who owns his own succesful business and the family live in a very large UK country house with acres of land. They have 3, maybe four, children two sons, one of which works for his Dad and is a bit of an embarrasment. On the land of their large country estate is an old run down house that an old man owns, the old man promised country house owner he could have first refusal when he dies. Old man dies and a supermarket chain owner buys and renovates the small house, then the saga starts and ..... I left New York and the book there too. Please can someone help? I hope if nothing else, this is the weirdest email you've received this week I am sure the book cover was white and I keep remembering the name Mark. ? that being the author.
