  2. I will try to find and get this latest novel of his.
  3. Ihave just seen the movie for this. Nice. and so refreshing amidst all the unbelievable twilight mania. :D
  4. Are these her new series? Im sorry but I havent been so aware of the newer books lately. How bout P.D. James? Anybody here read any of her novels?
  5. Yes the film's cinematography was pure poetry. The movie was criticized for having Chinese actors play the main roles of the geisha (Ziyi zhang, michelle yeoh, Gong Li) and that the script should have used the Japanese language and had english subtitles to make it more attuned to the setting of the story, (like Passion of Christ for example). But You know, its Hollywood. They always have to consider commercial appeal.
  6. Maybe its the author, his very lyrical style. Maybe its the setting of old Japan. Maybe its the bittersweet ending. This novel had me talking about nothing but geisha for weeks on end. Gave me a hangover. Just Beautiful.
  7. i dont really like the character of Bella. the fact that she needs to be saved all the time and she cannot seem to live a decent life without this walking corpse, i find so sad at times. But again as I said, a lot of teenage girls are going to like that.. all the saving and what do you know clumsy girl gets two guys ( a vampire and a werewolf, mind you) fighting over her. She is so special that creatures of the night go berserk. It's kind of silly. Its really all about a lonely girl who doesnt seem to belong finds sort of an alternate world where she is wanted and sought after...I mean, if you really think about it.
  8. It is silly, if you really think about it. But a lot of young girls are going to like that.. sort of like ugly duckling to graceful swan.
  9. Most of Stephen King book movie adaptations are horrible but some are quite good - The Shining, and I hear Frailty is good.
  10. Louis is very self-absorbed in a way. I find that I like reading his musings. He is very contradictory too since he hates violence and killing but does kill his victims with much relish. I think part of why Louis "whines too much" is because he is a relatively new vampire "new born" so to speak.
  11. I always thought interview with the vampire is the best from the vampire chronicles because of the main character and storyteller being Louis, the book being more sensitive, subtle, and romantic . The other books have Lestat as the main character and storyteller. Of course, he is interesting too, as with the others - Armand, Marius, ..But if Lestat is in the story, there is more gore. The differences between characters are so delineated, I felt and expected differently from the stories..
  12. The Last Battle C. S. Lewis when i was 7. I read all the other books from the chronicles of narnia afterwards. First horror novel were R.L. Stine novels when i was a kid, 8-12. I moved on to Stephen King in highschool.
  13. I like her books as well ( the ones i have read so far- Adam Dagliesh novels). She writes elegantly even when the stories are about murder and mayhem. Her dialogue and plots are not too overly dramatic but just about right but still not lacking the necessary components of a good thriller.
  14. Yes i did although at first i was a bit put off by the first-person storytelling style (if I remember correctly). Have you read it?-Shadow Man.
  15. Sorry forgot to include author. The series tells the story of the Mayfairs, a family of witches, held by a spirit named Lasher.
