  1. I think this was a short story in a book that I read about fifteen years ago. I think it was an anthology of ghost/horror stories aimed at teens, which might make it a bit harder to track down, but I figured it was worth asking to see if anyone remembers it. The story in question is about a girl who gets a doll for her birthday or other special occasion. I think the doll had very realistic, soft skin. One of her friends had a doll with realistic eyes, and the other had silky hair. One by one, the dolls end up at the doll hospital and when they return, they're changed - the doll with the soft skin is now hard and cold, another girl finds her doll's eyes are now flat and dull, and the doll with the soft, silky hair ends up with coarse, tangly hair. The woman who runs the doll hospital has no children of her own, and has been stealing the most life-like parts of the dolls that come in to make a child from them, and I think towards the end of the story, the child starts school and the other girls notice that her skin, eyes and hair are just like those that their dolls used to have.
