  1. Popped into Waterstones today to spend my vouchers I got from my sister for Christmas, so I bought Death comes to pemberley - P D James and Snuff - Terry Pratchett not a bad haul but I have to say I was dissapointed with the sales in Waterstones nothing really sprang out at me that I hadn't already gotten and not being a big fan of the celebrity biography not much stood out. I am overall dissapointed in the new pricing of books I resent paying nearly £8 for a paperback when I can get it on Amazon for about £4.50 and even less for my kindle. Still these were good buys and I will be reading them over the next few days.
  2. Last week of work before the Christmas break cannot wait for this week to be up!

  3. Is that the 3rd or 4th one in the series? I really like it. Gonna blame Charm for getting me into T J Michaels council of Ethics series Serati's Flame is book 2 dam those sexy gorgeous vampires.... lol
  4. My warranty still has a ways to go but I have to say I have found the customer sevice for the kindle excellent, when I enquired via email about buying a kindle for my brother who lives in Switzerland because of different book licensing laws, they actually rang me to explain the difference rather than just sending me a standard email reply.
  5. Hola Roy, Que tal? Hope you enjoy it on here and your English is marvellous I know I struggle to read in a foreign language, and it is easier with books you are familiar with but persevere and it will get there.
  6. Angela Carters - The Magic Toyshop one of my favourites of her books
  7. Just passing through and wondered if you had read any Kay Hooper books, I picked up (in book form) Stealing Shadows at the weekend, no werewolves or vamps but thriller a la Karen Rose etc, although a bit of psychic activity, might look up more in the series myself....that is all :-)

      And...to buy books! :)

  11. Dam and there I thought I was being efficient and maybe you didn't do a review and I just imagined it...grrrr anyway I did like it and am saving the second part until after I have bought all my christmas pressies and can treat myself again. For Keri Arthur ease yourself in with Beneath a Darkening moon and Beneath a Rising moon see if you like her style.
  12. 243 -The Alpha - Annie Nicholas a fairly short story in which I didn't want anything to challenging and this certainly succeeded in fullfilling that promise, a fairly fluffy bit of writing part of a trilogy this was unfortunately part 2 (Not made obvious when I bought it) So ok but I am not going to bother with the rest of the series. Alpha obviously involves werewolves but I have read better in this genre a bit of romance but basically very little story. 244- Chilli Con Corpses - J B Stanley Cheap or free can't remember which it was but I did enjoy it, basic premis is a group of friends which all seem to belong to a sort of slimmers club investigate the death of a friend I did like the idea that they gave out recipes of some of the meals they were collecting. I have read better types of these books tried to be a combination of Agatha Christie and other gentle crime writers I guess but no suspense at all and the Killer was fairly obvious you could almost imagine them as the moustache stroking baddy from the way they were described when first introduced. 245 -Hollowland - Amanda Hocking Quite a good YA novel set at a time when people are in enclaves because of a virus which has turned people into a type of zombies, its in some ways takiung elements of The Passage by Jutin Cronin although in a much more reduced way, and the main protagonist is a young girl (well teenager) she travels through the hollowlands looking for her brother who was transferred when their safe house was attacked. The second part is out and I might look it up. 246- Carinians Seeker - T J Michaels recommendations from Charm (she has a much better review I won't even attempt to re do here) 247 - Vampire Shift - Tim O'Rourke This is the second part of this series (first below) and its not too bad (hence me getting the second part) set in the Uk for a change and features female policeman who becomes mixed up in mysterious shennanigans 248 - Storm Heart - Thea Harrison second part of this series love it, shapeshifters, vampires and variuos races violence and romance very good (get it Charm -mwah ha ha ha) 249 - Darkness Rising (Dark angel 2) - Keri Arthur I am a big fan of Keri Arthur this is a new series great so far. 250 - Vampire Wake - Tim O'Rourke see above (good new fairly cheap series on kindle) 251 - Mortal Coil (skulduggery Pleasant) - DerekLandy I love this series I think its book 7 now and have them all in hardback, I love that Derek Landy writes really witty dialogue although this was perhaps not myu favourite of the books I have found Valkyrie Caine becoming a less sympathetic character but I think thats deliberate as she become older her teenage charachteristics are describe still love the banter with Skullldugery though. 252 - The House of Silk - Anthony Horowitz Well Anthony Horowitz takes on he mantle of Conan Doyle and writes a Sherlock Holmes and I have to say in the great scheme of things this is one of the better ones. he manages to capture the relationship between Holmes and Watsin very well. I did get the secret or mystery before the end of the book but I think that might be an indicator of modern society rather than a failing on the books part, I can't go into any detail of what I mean without giving away the crux of the plot. Enjoy though I did. Phew thats for me now.....although I am about 3/4 through my current book and will attempt to keep up to date a bit more maybe I should make my New's Years resolution to keep more up to date!!!!
  13. and do we get a prize for coming out on the plus side ..and what about free books how do they count (I am only smug because my TBR pile isn't that big - although my reviews are few and far between I tend to get round to it about once a month if not less)
  14. These days its a bagel with low fat cream cheese, easy and tasty
  15. I think they are talking of making a prequel or a sequel not sure which, whatever I can't imagine it being anywhere near as good as the original.
  16. I did get the anti US message it was well done in the context of the film, the scene with the doctor in one scene commiserating and asking why he hadn't gone to the police/media when he discovered his daughter was alive and in the next basically saying he would operate to cover up their mistakes. I loved the family dynamic though, thought the old father was brilliantly done he alone sympathise with his buffoon son although when he tried to explain why the other two they had fallen asleep. Of them all, the young daughter was the main hero of the story, she was brilliantly played.
  17. Thats the one, the mutant river monster who looked very comical in a horrible sort of way, you certainly couldn'e be frightened of it. The first few minutes were the best probably why I have seen them so many times but also glad I stayed til the end to watch it all the way through. I like that they put comedy elements into these sorts of things and its not all gore and horror though makes it more watchable for me.
  18. The Host odd combination of comedy and shock Korean film. I have seen the beginning so many times that last night I decided I would stay up until nearly 2am to watch the rest. Was it worth it? Probably not but its Sunday today so I can have a lie in
  19. Did you watch the people who live in these extremes so beautiful...before I die I will see the Aurora Borealis just like that
  20. Brazil a quite wierd and slightly disturbing Terry Gillingham film
  21. I have just finished Anthony Horowitz's The House of Silk. Really enjoyed it but now am a little lost as to whst to read next.... Now where's my kindle
  22. On a Christmas note the theme to Box of Delights always makes me feel like Christmas and I loved it, it looks so dated now with the special effects but it has that appeal of magic.
