  1. Just started watching Bones, season 1, and I think I'm up to ep 8 :).

Oh I adore Bones. Angela Montenegro can come "see" me anytime. She's just.. *drools* hum.

Watching True Blood now. Perfect show for hot weather.. Eric, Jessica. Hot vampires anyday. :(

  2. Well I sure was surprised, we've actually gotten as far as the finals this time.. against Spain or Germany, the last one is sort of our arch nemesis when it comes down to soccer, but since they've always proven difficult to beat.. guess most of us hopes Spain wins.

Either way, we're . No way we're winning the finals.

  3. Legion. I loved it, even though it didn't answer a lot of questions and more opened things up than actually gave definitive endings. Think the Prophecy meets zombie films.. God decides it's enough already with us killing each other, he loses faith in us for a change, and so he doesn't send a flood.. he sends humans possessed by angels, though these humans look and act decidedly evil, taking big bites out of humans etc. Anyway, put a few people in a diner in the middle of nowhere, one of them a pregnant woman whos child will eventually lead humanity to a brighter age again, and a lot of those possessed humans trying to get in there and kill them. Add a rogue angel, Michael, who decides he can't obey the order god gave him to kill the child so he decides to help the humans out.

    Not a bad film.

Also, it helps Michael is this guy I have had a crush on for ages, Paul Bettany. Yes, A Beautiful Mind, The DaVinci Code, Master and Commander.. I love this guy. :D

  4. Wow, am surprised you loved the movie this much too, have seen it ages ago, and it was okay, but nothing immensely original or exciting. I don't really know any books like it, cause it seems that would be hard sci fi mostly and I don't read a lot of that.. but I'll keep an eye open for books like this. :D

Also, shouldn't this be in the "looking for a book" area? :D

  5. Geert Wilders. No doubt. Yeah, that bleached blond racist :D that calls himself a politician.

Ben Stiller. Blah can't stand the man, or any of his films.

Joran van der Sloot, think he's world news now so everyone will know him? Am ashamed he's from Holland, and happy he'll rot in prison now.

My ex. Hee hee. I so don't ever want to see him again, so you can see why I'd hate dining with him. On the other hand I might be able to chuck something hot and heavy towards his head, so that might not be all together bad.

I can go on for a while, makes me think I really dislike lots of people. Woops.

  6. Alice in Wonderland. Read that for my english classes in highschool, and when reviewing it, there was so much stuff said about that all things had a hidden meaning. Like the roses being painted red and so on, all meant something. To me, it was just a childrens book. My teacher asked my opinion about that too, at the oral examination and he was pleasantly surprised I dind't follow that opinion, since he didnt eather. :(

  7. Well there were few books that we were required to read, actually I can think of only one, Hamlet. And that one we read in class mostly, with the teacher reading (acting) it to us mostly because we had trouble with the way it's written.

For the rest, we had to read like.. 20 books for the last two years? And they had demands, say so many of the needed to be written before 1900 etc. I had more than that though, even then I liked the classics better. But I can just remember reading Lord of the Flies, Brave New World, Alice in Wonderland, Dracula, and I think War of the Worlds. I even got a Stephen King book on there.. :D

But well, it could have been much better, it wasn't like our teacher recommended books to us, or showed us books that I would have never considered to read otherwise.. and back then (10-12 years ago) it wasn't as easy as now to find those things online. It was just coming that we could look those things up at school and though we had a computer at home, no internet yet then.

So he could have done better, asked our tastes and given us reading lists or so. To choose from I mean.

As for our Dutch classes, those books were horrible. Dutch writers most of the time write about banal things, or things you deal with in every day life, cancer, break-ups, cheating etc. Not books I'd like to read. Had trouble making my required number of books there. Whereas I had no trouble choosing english books.

Edit: I know that my old reading lists might be stored somewhere in the house, might be fun to re-read all those books since honestly, the books I hated back then I love now, at least that goes for Brave New World. But I have to say, I was top of my class in english, and even for me really reading a book in english was hard then, can't imagine how bad it must've been for the rest. Guess how it was for me to read a french book, hard! German always was ok, still able to sort of read books in german though I don't like the language.

But can you imagine, I had to read books for french, dutch and english, and the years before too for german, though i didn't graduate in that language.

  8. Wow, this is coincidence, or maybe I just subconsciously saw the thread and it influenced me to get the Hobbit in the library. I got it last week, has been long time since I read it, highschool, and then my english was not as good as it is now so I barely got half of it. Although I don't know if this group read is of much use, I am somewhere in chapter six already, in one go, its such an easy book for me now. ;)

Is it me, or is the tone here very different than from the LotR books? It's very light and fluffy really... not what I usually like in my fantasy books.. I like fantasy dark and epic. :D But I wanted to read this one again before the films come out.

But I agree Katrina, this does bring out the wanderlust in one. I have that too with the LotR films, especially with that song Bilbo and Gandalf sing.. "the road goes ever on and on" or something.

Now I want to listen to the soundtrack for the films.. it's lurvely. I love the song "concerning hobbits"..

Anyway, back to topic, I'll check this thread every now and then, but I'll keep on reading hee hee. No way I am reading one chapter at a time, I always want more. :D

  9. Sci-Fi, because it's very close to reality.

Say what? Think that entirely depends on the sort of sci-fi you read, I think there's enough fantasy that resembles reality, maybe just as much as sci-fi.. just with a lot of fantasy it seems to play in the past, while sci-fi's usually set in the future. But I have read plently sci-fi that is nothing close to reality. So it's all about what exactly you read. :D

  10. I tend to read more fantasy, and I love love love it. But if I want something inventive or thought-provoking, then sci-fi is better. Yes, fantasy has many cliches, as a lot seems to follow Tolkien's example. This isn't always bad however. The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan has many things in common with LotR.. and yet is amazing and still manages to be original. But I agree there are too many (series of) fantasy books out there that follow the same plot: fellowship of people (usually mixed races, elves, men, dwarfs or some original races like the Ogier in WoT) goes on various difficult quests to save the world from ancient/old evil arising again. I notice these days that it takes a lot for me to read any fantasy book that follows this plotline. I don't want to read a book I'll forget half an hour after reading.

Sci-fi.. well in a way I love it more than fantasy. Film and series-wise, I am definitely a sci-fi girl. However in books, it's usually quite difficult to find books I like. I usually don't like the space opera kind of thing, stuff with too many technical details. I couldn't care less how some new, world changing technology works.. but I do like other races, other worlds, and a genre I adore in sci-fi, is post-apocalyptic books. Some of these mix with the fantasy genre, as do more sci-fi books (like Anne McCaffrey), love that. Give me a book in which the world is destroyed any day. ;)

Anyway, lately I notice I am searching for science fiction to read, have just grabbed some unknown (to me) sci-fi books at the library, and am thinking about reading Arthur C. Clarke, the Riverworld series, the Darkover series, the Drowned World etc by J.G. Ballard, and much more. More sci-fi is on my TBR list than ever.

    So I love both.

  11. Well I have some of the OCD things, as in checking several times (when I am stressed like 10 times sometimes) if I have everything with me when I leave the house or some other place.. I check phone, wallet, keys, and even though I have just close the bag, and nothing's on the floor, I have to open it again to see if I do have everything. So annoying, and can get me angry with myself but sometimes I don't feel good when I don't do it. Have been trying to push myself to just NOT do it though.

And something else, don't do it a lot anymore these days, sometimes in very stressy times, and it came back a little when dad was ill, but has gone now mostly again.. to write out with my fingers, or in thought, every word I think. When I was younger I used to do this all the time, when I lay in bed mostly, could barely go to sleep.

What else? Is twirling your hair odd? I just noticed myself doing it again, I do it all the time, just take a strand of my hair (I have really long hair, halfway down my back) and twirl it around my fingers, feels nice, is such a habit.

I'm weird, so I probably have other weird habits.

  12. What is it with you guys and vodka? I can't stand the stuff, not that I don't like the taste (when it's mixed, can't drink it pure, blegh) but my stomach always tells me after half a drink that it's wise to not drink more for risk of extensive vomiting. :D The sickest I have ever been, well one of the times, was from vodka.. the other times was tequila (baaaaaaaaad drink) and Jagermeister. To this day I can't smell either without becoming nauseous. There were times when I couldn't even stand the smell of lemon because we used to do tequila shots. :D

But so nooooo. I do also like the cherry or berry flavoured beer, the red stuff? We call it "kriek" beer. Yummy.

I have no trouble drinking 2 liters a day, I sort of always have a drink standing by, sometimes I drink two glasses every hour or so. Not because I am really that thirsty (hell no, then I'd have myself checked out for diabetes) but because I like drinking yummy things (and I like water too so). Which is why I tend to stick to light drinks too, can you imagine me drinking regular sodas or such then? Sugar rush. :D

However I just usually drink max 4 cups of coffee a day, don't notice the caffeine really. I don't do energy drinks, they're disgusting. No coffee after dinner time for me too, I don't like that.

And who was it above that said they drink full fat milk? Yuck! I just drink semi-skinned or non-fat milk, full fat tastes disgusting and is so not good for you. :D

  13. Hmm. Well I of course have my moments when I do something incredibly stupid and I feel like I should be able to press a button so the earth will come up and swallow me please.. :) But I found that when you just laugh at yourself at a moment like that, you rule them. :D Like, the dancing to your ipod thingie? Well, kick it up a notch when they see you, let them see you see them and act sillier, laugh about yourself, and suddenly it's just funny and not so much embarrassing. Tripping over your own feet too, even in a crowded street, becomes much funnier when you laugh about it. These things happen to people, so I try not to let them bother me. Though honestly, I can be so clumsy at times.:D

  14. Actually I didn't mind the camping bit, was a nice change from the usual decor, I mean Hogwarts is fabulous, but still.

And ahhhhh. Buzzkill. I mean.. November? I have to wait till november to see this? *pouts* Always have this when I see a trailer for a film I really like to see, I wanna see it NOW! :D Might just have to rewatch some of the other films. I have all of them in my dvd cabinet. Or else read some of the books, I have all of them too. Some double even, in Dutch first then in English.

    Me, liking HP? Nah. :)

  15. Well cheryl cole has a really nice tattoo on her hand and i really want that done, but seeing as im only 14, i am going to have to wait a while :D

And you want to get the same tattoo as some celebrity? I could never see myself do that, like I don't know if I could just pick something from the tattoo parlor, I'd have to give my own twist to it. The tattoo has to be mine.

  16. ^You do know this thread is better with pics don't you?

I took a new pic two days back, this time I tried for a better shot using the.. don't know what it's called, but with that it automatically takes a pic after 2 sec? Anyway, no bending over backwards to make a pic and it looks gooooood.
