  1. ^Oh I have no trouble with that. I see the film of INterview with the Vampire totally different than the Vampire Chronicles, to name just one example. I just thought I didn't care too much for this sorta crime thriller, I have never, but since I love the tv show so much, maybe I'll enjoy the books. Can never hurts to try.

  2. ^Well I'll wait for the price to drop and then I'll buy it I think. If I have to rely on my library I have to wait forever.

I love bookshops too, but my town only has one decent one, and since I live in a country that's not english-speaking, the amount of english books they have is limited, plus they're more expensive than online. :D

  3. Well honestly I couldn't stand Dora much either, why Lestat was so infatuated with her.. pff.

And I know Amazon is cheaper. But. My country doesn't have it, I don't have a creditcard, and the shipping is ridiculously expensive compared to the online shop I order at now. I checked out the German Amazon, but same thing pretty much, plus lots of books there are in German, and while I can understand it, it's not a language I like reading in. Then I'd rather read my own.

  4. ^That novel Angel Time is out already, at least I can get it at my online shop. But the book's still around 22 euros, which for me, is too expensive for a book I don't know I'll like (funny too, paperback is 22, and hardcover 23 euros, which would you buy:tong:)..

I would say you should still try to read the Witching Hour books and see what you think of them, I just didn't really care much for them, but they're not bad books. This whole idea of Taltos too, was just bizarre in my opinion and I couldn't quite catch on. Won't elaborate because that's something you have to descover slowly in these books if I remember correctly. Anyway, there are people who enjoy these books as much, or more, as the Vampire Chronicles, I'm just not one of them. But you could be. Just try and see.

  5. I have read Anne Rice's works over and over, most of them anyway. The Vampire Chronicles, most I adore. I didn't like Memnoch the Devil, for several reasons. One, I really do not believe in god, of any sorts. In my opinion, if there's ever been anyone like Christ, he was a mere mortal. I don't believe in heaven or hell, nor in any afterlife.

However, I could pass over these things, if it was brought in such a way I would like it. I read fiction after all, so it doesn't always have to be about things I believe in, or that are true.

What I really didn't like about this book, was that it converted the proud and strong Lestat to some blabbering, weeping idiot.

Also, I didn't like Vittorio very much. I loved Pandora, so thought I'd buy Vittorio. Pff. Can't really remember why, just thought it was boring.

And, I still have some bookmark stuck halfway in Blood Canticle. Oh how I can't stand Mona Mayfair. Really can not stand her. :D

The rest, I simply adore. I have heard some people say they have trouble with Interview with the Vampire, can't see why. I read it just after I had seen the film, which I loved, I watched it on my birthdayparty for my 13th birthday. :(

I like the Vampire Lestat better though, mainly because I love Lestat. He's bold, rash, and just charismatic. He's also not as gloomy as Louis, pff seriously, you're immortal and then you sit around in gloomy, dusty corners, what a waste.

I loved the Mummy, has been years since I read it though, must pick that one up again soon. Servant of the Bones.. couldn't get through that one, I read it before I read Memnoch, but it has some of the elements I didn't like about that one. Again, years since I tried reading it, but that one I won't be picking up again.

And then, there's her Mayfair Witches books. I don't really care about witches to be honest, vampires are my true love. :D I have read the Witching Hour, and even Lasher I think, but these were just bizarre and I don't care about them.

Was quite sad she started with those religious books, for reasons above.

However, I read she's working on a new novel, or that it's out already, called Angel Time. Oh yeah, just looked it up, it's released in October.

Anyway, the series is called Songs of the Seraphim, and labled as metaphysical thriller. If I can, I'll try reading it.

Angels and such can be cool, look at the Prophecy. Love those films.

Without mentioning any particular book then, what I love about Anne Rice is the way she can create worlds. She can make you smell the streets of New Orleans, see the world through the inhuman eyes of her vampires. Her books are sensual without being overly sexual (not that that is something I particularly mind, on the contrary actually), her characters beautiful and intriguing. She'll always be one of my favourite authors, despite the books she writes now. :D

  6. *bounces up and down happily* Just checked the site of the online shop I always order books at, if all goes according to plan the books I ordered dec 26th should be delivered today. It said "driver on it's way". Yess.

That'll be The Dragonriders of Pern, Anne MacCaffrey (first three books into one) and Laurell Hamilton's Swallowing Darkness.

    :D

Okay edit: seriously, not fifteen minutes after posting this, my books were delivered. They're pretty, new books. Yay.

  7. Bonfire for me. Not one I would read. The Da vinci Code was so overrated is was a disappointment after all that hype and the film was not very good either. I guess this book will be the same.

Ditto. I couldn't get through the book, I watched the film, and ages lagter thought I'd read the DaVinci Code, too see what everyone was on about, but seriously. Got so bored wit it after what, not even 100 pages. One of the few books ever I didn't finish.

  8. This reminds me on the episode of Black Books where a man is trying to get his money back but Bernard finds a grain of sand on one of the pages, Manny tastes it and pinpoints the exact location of the beach. The man is sent on his way. :D

    I love Black Books.

And there always be customers like this, be it at a book store, or any other store. Some people are just rude.

If I buy a book in a book store I don't even think about returning it, read or not. You take your chances, I agree. If you don't like the book, too bad. Which is why I barely ever buy books I don't know, or of which I know the writer.

  9. Oh I could never name just one as my favourite, each of my favourite authors/books/series has its own good things. I guess I could name Jacqueline Carey as one of them though, I love her Kushiel's Dart and Treason's Heir series, can read them over and over and each time they have new things in them. :)

Laurell Hamilton is my author of choice when I want to read some fluff, her books are a lot of fun but well, as a lot of urban fantasy books, not very "good" books if you know what I mean.

And next I have a love for reading classics, the books everyone knows of but few people (except us book geeks) have actually read. Frankenstein, Dracula, H.G. Wells, the likes. Unfortunately I can't read as many of those as I want to, been going through some tough and busy times lately (actually the last few years) and these books take more energy to read, even more so since my native language isn't english, but I do want to read them in their original language. No problem, since my english is good, but it takes that little bit extra effort sometimes, especially when it's not quite contemporary english.

    Oh and I love H.P. Lovecraft. :)

Ahh, see, get me talking about some of the things I love and I can really ramble sometimes. Have noticed that goes for more people on this forum, so guess I am in the right place.

  10. Thanks again for the welcomes, and I have to say, I love it here so far, you guys really are pretty much the nicest I have ever seen on a forum, only one other forum I am on is this nice (not that I am on that many forums), but there they tend to ignore newcomers, not here.

Plus, it's good for me to be here, I am already feeling inspired to read more books outside my usual genres, and it's great to have so many people that can recommend books, or whom you can ask if they have read this-and-that book.

    Love it here. :)

  11. Hey, why didn't I see this thread before? I LOVE astronomy, even went so far as to take one course in university that was called "the Universe", basically an astronomy class for people from other science fields (I study medical biology myself). I loved those classes. Too bad I basically suck at math and physics, so it takes me a lot to get it all done. :D

But still, I love it, and I might have even gone for a study in astronomy and astrophysics if I would have been better at math and physics.

But that site, the first post if this thread? I check it almost every day for the new pic. Have for years. Many of my desktop wallpapers come from it too.

    The sky's so pretty.

(And even my screen name comes from my love for astronomy, Universe was taken on most forums etc so.. )

  12. Just so long as pt 1 isn't just "Harry, Ron and Hermione go Camping" - I hated that about the book - the ENDLESS camping trip...

I kinda liked that, something different from Hogwarts all those books.

    I am looking forward to:

Avatar (haven't seen it yet, am most likely to in the first few weeks of 2010)

Legion (just watched the trailer for this, and oh yeah!! :D).. though we're not getting it in cinemas till may. :friends0:

Daybreakers (oh baby, brilliant, and vampires!!!)

    Robin Hood

Looks like it's gonna be a good movie year. :)

  13. ^Hee hee, well the J stands for Japanese. :kissing: I won't even try to say more because honestly, I have only listened to a few bands and they're so NOT for me. Though J-pop, have no idea what that that sounds like. Only (j-rock) band I can remember by name is Dir En Grey. Though perhaps that is more metal than :HerculeHastings means?

Am I allowed to post links in here? If not, feel free to delete. :)

I have tried to listen to these guys several times, since everyone says they're awesome, but not my cup of tea by far.
